I think this will come down to your goals: finish the book in this tight of a deadline with a new baby and end up burning out or finish this book while staying relatively sane and healthy while also taking care of your new baby. As an indie author, you have the luxury of setting your own deadline. I think you should take advantage of that. I know the ups and downs of being a new mom and taking care of a baby, and I think it’s very possible that you’ll burn out if you put yourself through this. It’s cool to give yourself a challenge, but please don’t be too hard on yourself if you end up not meeting it at the end. Don’t forget that you’re awesome and you’re rocking this no matter what the word count at the end of your 27 days indicates.

I wouldn't worry about the 27 days right now, in my opinion. In the first year of a baby's life there is so much change and once you get a routine down it changes. I feel like you should listen to your body and take a break if you are feeling burnt out. It's frustrating but better then making it worse. You will finish the book when you can and I'll be ready for it! The third book sounds so good! I am so excited for part two and part three!

The tears in your voice broke me up at the end. There will always be days or even weeks when you feel defeated, but it will get better (which it seems it did, according to the "coming up next" portion). You push yourself so hard, and I know it's such a long adjustment to all the changes in your life and your self once a baby comes into the picture. You CAN get through this, and every day - no matter whether you feel like you were or not - you ARE a success. You seem like an amazing mom, wife, author, and content creator. That's a lot to balance, so try not to forget to pat yourself on the back once in a while. -Diana

I have two small children and rarely have time to chip away at the rough draft I've been working on for four years 🙈 I've been so encouraged by your videos. Thank you for being honest about how hard it is to care for the babies you love so much and care for yourself and get your work done. Twenty-seven days is an ambitious goal, but it will motivate you to get more accomplished than you would otherwise. Keep going, Mama! You can do this!

My newborn will make his debut shortly and I've been afraid that motherhood meant I couldn't write anymore. It's already a chore being pregnant afterall! Even if you don't hit the 27 day goal, you're doing well! I'm happy for you doing what you want to do, and I can only imagine how raising a baby can be emotionally chaotic, even though you love little Zion. Your goals are your own, and they will help your family, but burning yourself out will affect everyone, as well. Keep pushing, and don't let the defeated feeling take over. I know from experience, the stress can burn people out quicker than the goals. Perfectionistic traits show up when we're overwhelmed, but the beauty comes from the struggles and push-through, lessons learned, and confidence gained. The timeline doesn't matter, as long as you're pushing towards your dreams. You'll be done when you're done. :) As a writer who hasn't finished a book faster than 2 years, 27 days feels like torture to even consider.

@@BethanyAtazadeh HAHA yeah, I'm working on getting my KZfaq going while finishing my second book and critiquing a manuscript, all while healing from C-PTSD and pushing through dissociative issues. Letting go of the shame of being imperfect helps immensely. Going from codependent and enmeshed to independent and empowered is a dizzying journey, but worth it. I love your writing, btw! :D Mine's a lot darker, but I put a lot of light into it. Basically, a PTSD brain in a naturally happy person. How long do you think your book will be?

Hi Bethany, Thank you for the oodles of strategies to write your books. I haven’t gone through your videoed. I’m listening and relistening since I’m new. I have two friends who are indie writers, too, but they aren’t FT writers, so you are doing very well, because you’re a new mom. You also have high expectations of yourself as a writer. You’re amazing. So, I love what you said in another video on only doing instagram, KZfaq, and having your website. Could you do a video on your website? I’m curious what yours entails. I don’t have one, but if I were to go the indie route, I definitely see myself having a website. Give us the basic, maintenance, time invested, what you use it for, design, organization, and whether you use it to answer people’s inquiry. I ask because that could take time. As a viral writing teacher, that’s what you do, but do you answer questions? Thanks for showing the nuts and bolts. You are an inspiration to me, a future indie writer:)

You got this! And even if you end up not writing the whole book in 27 days, just remember you write a whole freaking book (and others before this one!) and that not everyone can or has the gumption to do that at all. And as a writing friend of mine put it recently to me (as I’m having a horrible time trying to write the third book of my fantasy trilogy), the bigger the struggle, the brighter the reap. So go out there and conquer this book! 👍💖

Thank you for being so honest with writing with a baby. It is TOUGH. And that first year is such a haze. You get one schedule going and used to it, and then the amount of naps the baby needs changes, and you rearrange things, and get used to it, and then boom. AND WHAT IS SLEEP? But you are doing amazing. Please do the best you can to listen to what your body needs in regards to rest, but also write whenever you want and can. It's hard balancing! But you've got this!

LOL I censor my kiddos in my videos too and I swear they actively TRY to get in every single one of the shots 😂 Which makes editing a nightmare haha I’m so sorry you’re feeling so defeated 😞 hang in there mama ❤️ it’s so so hard! Especially during the weeks when you’ve got appointments and no extra hands to help…it feels like you’re getting pulled in a million different directions and left feeling completely drained. I had to start being strategic when it came to making appointments so I didn’t overwhelm myself with too much. I don’t know if you know the Christian artist Jonny Diaz, but he has a song called Breathe that really helps me when I’m in a funk 😊 Sometimes I tend to compare myself to other authortubers that are cranking out videos like crazy or managing to write every day and I let it get to me, even though I know I shouldn’t.. I know it might not feel like it, but you’re seriously doing such an amazing job!! I am so inspired by your videos, but not just because of all the things you get done. It’s because you show the other side of things. You show the failures and the lazy days. As a mom that has a lot of lazy days and has had my fair share of failures, it’s reassuring to know it’s not just me lol

Leaving a late comment to appease the KZfaq algorithm gods... Kudos Bethany on getting ish done! Writing a book is HARD... Writing a book with a dog is HARD... Writing a book with a baby is HARD... Are you seeing a trend here? Love the transparency, it's why I keep coming back to your videos. Not that I'm reveling in your misfortune, quite the opposite, seeing you struggle and persevere through that struggle inspires me to keep going when my days look like yours. I tell myself, "If Bethany can do it, so can I." But I think while it's great to see your previous wordcount progress, it's a recipe for disappointment as those numbers were achieved when baby boy was still cooking. Babies demand a lot of attention especially the first few years of their life (it's the developmental stage, after all, where they may not remember every thing that occurs but it certainly shapes them in some way). Keep your long term goals as is but try to adjust them weekly in a realistic way depending on your schedule. Life happens and while it's great to crush goals and conquer obstacles, listening to our bodies, our gut, and delegating time accordingly is precious. It's a constant battle between spending time with family versus spending time writing. Congrats on what you have achieved this week! Because all those small things add up big time in the long run :-)
