Can Lucas Oil Stabilizer fix mild rod knock?

My civic had mild rod knock due to extreme overheating in the engine. I later tore this engine down and found all the rod bearings had shrunk a little bit and would definitely cause a light knocking noise as you can hear in the video.
Lucas oil stabilizer probably won't help for rod knock due to spun bearings or anything more severe.

I had a lot less rodknock than that, but I use it every oil change and it has never knocked since. I still run the engine hard and no problems so far. I've done this for 2 years

I think what happens is old/higher mileage cars run a bit hotter than new and the oil goes thin, would explain the thick viscosity and clearance changes with heat/wear

Definitely quieted my R18 for a day or two, but not really meant for a serious knock from a spun bearing. Had D16Y7, K20Z1, K24Z7, and R18A. The R gave out on me, but I was beating on it and I didn't know previous owner's maintenance.

rod knock means there's a physical gap, noise is friction. It can't fill in the gap, but if it reduces the noise it reduces the friction and therfore slows the rate of wear. It buys you time... but if the knock is that light you should just put a set of bearings in. If it starts knocking with the lucas in it, you've probably ovaled your rods thus now you gotta pull the head... maybe the trans too to replace the crank.

I think the thing to remember is that its generally a sign of worn or buggered bearings. Bearing oriented rod knock is a disaster waiting to happen. Additives only thicken things and take away the noise, it doesn't fix the problem. I suppose if you have a really old car and don't care about collateral damage to other parts in your engine then Lucas and other type products are ok.

I think viscosities have gotten too light, for two factors- Overhead cams need lighter oils to lift and lubricate the taller engine and secondly, too many lemmings following racing practices, where they like a lightweight sewing machine oil for top spinning speed, where thick oil just gets in the way. BUT, the racing world is only ever using the oil for 500 miles or so between rebuilds, you're driving thousands of miles and probably generally TOO FAR between changes. All the additive products are then THICK stuff (after the flush at least) to make up for the thin oils not coating well when tolerances are wearing things out. "500 mile" light sewing machine oil isn't lubricating very well then, especially full of grit and gunk. I've had to run a lot of high mile used cars through the decades, and before DOHC I usually used straight 40 and even 50 weight when you could still get it, and NEVER had any internal engine problems up into the 250,000 plus ranges. You have to change the oil on schedule or SOONER though. And if you want thicker viscosities now- here's a tip- mix in some gear oil to boost it up. It doesn't leak through gaskets as fast either.

@@CtrlAltDefeatTV how long did it work? think i would only add enough to stop the knock & a lil bit more for good measure. If you try a long polymer additive to the oil it'll help line the cylinder sleeve slightly and reduce piston slap noise, helps for ring wear and minimise any fuel dilution too. Only draw back is it leaves slight carbon deposits on the top of the piston not enough to make any difference though.
