JD takes on the task of getting this 1977 Mercury Grand Marquis running and driving after I abandoned it in the yard for months, and robbed it for parts.

From experience, I know how difficult it is to get something done, film it, and narrate it. . all at the same time. JD is already much better at it than I am. I have a theory that we are all the sum total of our ancestors and it makes sense that JD the son of an electrician would be completely comfortable with electrical gremlins. I hate them. It's hilarious that you send the boy out to work on a car with a red negative ground cable. It's one of those things though that when you learn it the hard way you actually check for that. This was a really good content, seemingly on the fly.

I remember what I was told about working with electricity. If the wire is letting the little electric through, it is good. but if the smokes start to escape the wire, it is bad. you want to keep the wire good so the smoke does not leak out. Great job JD. Just to say, my car has one of those Red Negative wires too. Whoever owned the car before me decided a red wire would look prettier on the negative side... Oh what problems that has caused. But honestly JD, you are developing a great trial and error method to trouble shoot a circuit. You start with this one, and if you can keep the smoke in the wire, move on to the next one. You are learning well. Carry on JD, I am enjoying your vids... THUMBS UP

Being a similar age as you, raising my own kids, I love seeing your similar approach with them, I'm always trying to encourage my kids to go fuck something up to figure out how to fix it, how to find their own answers, and not constantly rely on someone else to be there or walk them through things. Let a kid burn themselves on a stove to learn how to make a grilled cheese.

For the battery cables, go to any parts store. Get an 18 inch clamped wire, tte longest clamped wire, the longest wire with loops at both ends and a 12 inch wire with loops at both ends. I always get 1 gauge fir all but the short double loop. 4 gauge is fine. I also get a separate fuse box and eolace those fusible links with the same amperage fuses. Cuts the risk of fire. That is a lovely Marquis Brougham 2 door. Looks well equipped. It is an uncommon car worth fixing properly. The negative batter cable goes to the air pump if there is one. Otherwise there is a flat dpot with a bolt cast into the block behind the alternative.

Im glad your proud of yourself JD. You should. Most kids today wouldn't know where to begin on a project like that! What you did here is how i learned how to work on cars and now its my carrer! Besides even if you wamt a different carrer. Having a trade like this umder your belt is priceless. Because you could be down and out and unemployed looking for a job trying to get money to pay the rent and because you know how to work on cars you can answer a Facebook post of someone looking to get their car fixed. Or you can put a post up saying you do mobile auto repairs! I do it all the time. My dream idea was to buy a box van and load it with tools and do just that, mobile auto repairs. Think about it not many people have time to get their cars maintenanced and they go to crap! Well if they can make a phone call and get their car serviced while they are working or if they can get it dome while they are at home taking care of stuff theyd pay for that! Maybe something to think about you can do to make some money for your first hot rod! Anyway keep it up man makes me have hope for the next generation!
