He could've easily foregone the Civic references and the rest of his story would've been tolerable. A bit elitist yes, but tolerable. Despite what Instagram portrays, the majority of "car guys & gals" in the real world get their start with a regular car i.e. Civic, GTI, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and those cars can certainly be enjoyed just as much as any exotic.

At my last track event, I brought two cars, which were the most expensive car there (991 GT3) and also the least expensive car there (1995 Integra that I saved for the crusher). While plenty ogled over my Porsche, all of my real friends were racing beat up 90’s Honda’s with me and not caring about impressing anyone. I definitely make a lot of contacts bringing the Porsche around, or even with my Corvette, so there can be some usefulness, but that’s just networking... A similar thing happens when people find out I work in the motorsports industry. Actual friends don’t care what you have or who you work for; they are people you don’t need to impress, who you drink beers and be stupid with, and who will tease you no matter what. I could lose everything and become a hobo on the street, and still have my real friends, but all the others would instantly be gone.

This is a nice story and I’m glad that he’s alright but I think that this kind of thinking is part of the problem with some car people. Passion for the hobby is not dictated by the size of a person’s bank account. Many people who own nice and expensive cars don’t have the same passion as some people who own what most might think of as a beater. I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean what he actually said but he did say it. I drive a 911 and I am around others that also really love their civic, brz, Miata... passion is passion.

No No No, You don't understand. This is the thing many exotic owners can't get out of their head and cannot understand and you are one of the PJ. Whether it is a honda civic or a 458 someone can experience, to quote you, "the craftsmanship, the passion, and the engineering that someone has put their entire life mission behind." What you are not putting into perspective is the fact that any car, given the right amount of care and love can become and transform into anything that someone is proud of and if you want to take that away from them because of a brand name... who are you? Whether it is faster than a Ferrari or not the point is people should be owning and building cars they are proud of and make them happy. For me, I don't need to turn heads everywhere I go with a prancing horse or a crazy loud popping nonsense because I am proud of my car and how I have built it and the experience and feeling it gives me when I drive it. Now this may not be the case for many or all of you and that is the point. We all have different tastes and opinions on cars or trucks or build a car that makes them as a car person happy. You say don't judge the driver and you judge the car.. at the end of the day we are all car people with a common passion for automobiles and we can respect the fact that someone wants to build a Honda rather than go for a ferrari, that they should because they don't care about being perfect or being "exotic" in the eyes of others. This is so frustrating to talk about because it seems almost rudimentary that you would just understand that someone not only might have a different appreciation of cars than you, but that they might enjoy driving and building their Honda just as much as you like driving your 458. Many years ago the e55 I had at the time helped me get through some rough times and I met some awesome people because of that car.

I mean a stock honda civic won't bring it but I see import car meets where all kind of ''basic'' cars are well tuned and people gather around them. But one thing is true : the exotic/high-end car meets are something else. The dynamic is different. You really see that people connect on another level.

Every car brings people together. Yes, there are more mo s driving civics than enthusiast, but you can't say a civic doesn't bring people together. If you look for a community based around ANY car you own, it'll only take 5 minutes to find a Facebook page with like minded people that will eventually be your friend. The community may be different or more unique in the exotic world, but any car can bring people from different places and perspectives together. Bad video, still love Vinwiki and all the other guys.

One part rings true: some of the worst cars are the best. Case in point... when I was young, a buddy of mine went in with me on a dastardly project. It was a rusted out '74 Vega that we set off to stuff a 327 in. It was nothing but problems due to our hillbilly hack job, welding, and general shade tree antics. But looking back, I had more good times hanging out with my buddy, drinking beer in the shade and wrenching on that piece of junk than any other car I've ever owned. It is definitely the most memorable and biggest piece of shit all at the same time.

There must be a special feeling you get while driving an exotic car, similar to how I feel when I wear a nice watch. The first one I got, it was almost transformative. I didn’t feel better than anyone else, but rather I felt like I was finally worthy of having such a nice thing - something I’d worked for and waited a long time to be able to afford. (And we’re not talking Rolex, etc. here BTW.) if I’m ever able to buy an exotic car, I hope it will bring the same feeling.

I think he prefers other people to be the craftsman whereas Honda enthusiasts like to be the craftsman themselves.

The whole point of the car community is to share the love of automobiles with other like minded individuals. We personify the vehicle while the rest of the world sees a big piece of metal on 4 wheels. This guy probably doesn’t know the difference between a LS engine or Coyote engine if you asked him. That why his 6 figure car lost to (I’m not 100% sure, I’ll have to go back and watch the episode) a Honda Civic that was probably bought for $1000 and all the parts to beat super cars was probably around $10k. In fastest car season 2, Justin Norton is the best representation of the community. He knew the different types of motors he was going against. Justin even said something along the lines of that he has more money to play with nicer cars, but he still mods his vehicles and has fun with the cars. Pejman just buys cars for their brand name alone and reads the little pamphlet with all the features and inaccurate hp/torque numbers. I’m glad you beat cancer and made something out of nothing from Iran, but come on man.

I genuinely am glad to hear this man recovered from his cancer and is doing well, but good grief, that's about the only part of this one I could take. I hate to tell him, but there are thousands of people in Ohio who are _very_ passionate about designing, building, engineering, etc, Civics. That's also one of the largest hobby car communities in the world. You don't have to diminish one group of people to uplift another and that type of sentiment actually seems to go directly counter to pretty much every exotic owner I've come across on KZfaq. This guy seems more like the stereotype that we used to have... Maybe he's just not choosing his words well...

I'm certain there is passion and perfection in each Toyota, as well as many other brands of inexpensive car. I can make connections with other Toyota owners even though they're not exotic, and there are a whole lot more Toyota owners than exotic owners.

Talks about loving the flaws in the cars and the relationships from having exotics then makes it clear its basically business relationships and how he feels status builds from cars. Worst bit was dismissing the Civic, maybe he should decend from his ivory tower and try an early 2000s Civic Type R. This guy needs to understand that that you can have a cool car that's nowhere near exotic (original mini cooper, 2CV, this list could go on forever, whatever floats your boat) and it's generally nothing to do with perceived status.
