After reading dozens of comments about his broken smile, Taji went in search of the perfect one. So naturally he took to Yelp to find an orthodontist with many one-star reviews to whiten his teeth.
No one likes the dentist, but reviews for this orthodontist all shared a common theme… it was shockingly painful. Taji’s commitment to the perfect smile almost matches his commitment to this show. So he made an appointment, took the plunge, and sat in a chair for 30 minutes with hydrogen peroxide burning away his gums and teeth enamel.

Being in dentistry for over 20+ years, he should have had a dental examination, cleaning, and treatment of dental decay before moving into cosmetic dentistry such as whitening.. Pretreatment of sensitivity toothpaste prior to whitening can lessen the effects of sensitivity during the whitening treatment...

Honestly, she seemed like a pretty good dentist to me. Some of the places I've been to that were in network for my insurance left me worrying I was going to get hepatitis from the instruments.🤷

Haha! I'm a dentist and I NEVER recommend Zoom Whitening (what this is) because of the pain, I try to talk people out of it. If they need fast whitening I do Erbium laser whitening instead, no pain and great results. But even then, I only do it after they have tried at home whitening strips and want better results. Also this guy would've benefited greatly from starting with Opalustre and Icon treatments prior to whitening, it would've eliminated the spots on his teeth. Also this guy is a champ!

This looks like the kits you can buy off amazon that comes with tubes of the whitener and a blue light to stick in your mouth. I left one in my mouth for 30 mins and my gums hurt. It went away after a few hours.

It actually is the same stuff, only it is illegal to buy hydrogen peroxide with an high concentration as a consumer, only a licensed physician may handle products that contain higher amounts of hydrogen peroxide. So the effect you get at home is most likely not even noticeable.

@@Partyfreaker Actually it is not illegal to buy it. You can get straight up 3% hydrogen peroxide at the grocery store. I just got some a few days ago! You put it on after you brush your teeth. It is literally nothing but hydrogen peroxide. The concentration approved as safe and effective by the FDA and ADA for tooth whitening (10 percent Carbamide Peroxide) is similar to 3.6 percent hydrogen peroxide. So, it is like going to a hair salon versus yourself. At the dentist you will know if your teeth are able to handle getting whitened, if not, you can get them to the point where you'd be alright to do it. You obviously know if you're overdoing it too at the dentist. It's done more "professional" but yep as you said it is literally the same thing and in 2021 it is no different otherwise.

@@gamergirlmars the concentration of hydrogen peroxide used in clinics is 25 to 40 percent and it needs to be activated e.g with the curing light.The results you get with using the store bought ones are negligible.plus hydrogen peroxide causes tissue burn so I wouldn't recommend anyone using it without supervision.

Ben Willock yeah he’ll be all gums in a matter of year. Great way for your teeth to fall out. I water floss every day as of the last year and my gum health is really really good now. It was bad before I started water flossing everyday. Hopefully taji will try a water flosser

Alright, as a dentist what freaks me the most is the fact that she does not wear surgical cap and her facial cover under her nose was like "wtf???" And I didn't even said anything about her coat not covering her whole torso and neck. This is really important when you search for a good professional. Despite that, she seems to be pretty able with her skills and she's very kind, tho.

We don't use hydrogen peroxide in the operating room on patients. We only use it to clean up blood and to disinfect surfaces. In fact, the National Institute For Occupational Safety recently set a restriction on hydrogen peroxide use because it's dangerous and can cause serious harm to people.

I was actually pleasantly surprised when she said “with the amount of whitening we do, we drop the ball sometimes” I was expecting to blame the client . She really doesn’t seem bad at all. And he’s copays exist you have to pay along with your insurance and dental stuff is expensive. All that being said his teeth looked dirty at the end

Y'all are aware people genetically either have good or bad teeth right? I have spacing issues from early development and growing up poor where my family couldn't afford braces or more than the yearly cleaning, Because of that, despite always brushing my teeth 2x per day, flossing and using mouthwash, I have the teeth of a early meth addict. Having no room between my teeth resulted in cavities because it's impossible to get in between some areas, particularly the molars. I have also had several wrecks on dirt bikes and even younger on bicycles and scooters resulting in root canals on my front teeth that have now fallen out and discolored several front teeth. It's really annoying to hear someone say "do you even brush" when that alone does not equal how your teeth alone look, what's worse is teeth make a person feel like shit 1000x more than their weight or looks, so how about not being a dick?

@@yippdogg9250 I have the same problems + vitamin D deficiency, but we're seeing really serious plaque buildup on the surface of the tooth, not In-between, it could have been easily prevented by brushing p.s. everyone has different reasons for not brushing: disfunctional families or depression, my comment was not shaming anyone.

This was one of the least sketchy one-star businesses so far. Given operators like the Botox doctor who pulled medicine out of a duffel bag, Dr. Jacquie Smiles doesn't deserve to be stuck in the same group. Maybe it was just lip service at the end, but overall it didn't seem like she was trying to scam Taji or was some fly-by-night hack. There is probably a lot of area of improvement, but if she's sincerely open to customer feedback, then this isn't a one-star shop from what was presented here. Still, the doctor's got crazy eyes.

These women seemed like they handled it well, I think the real test is how the owner handles this guy bringing up the bad reviews and she didn’t get moody about it. Of course the whole hydrogen peroxide thing was absolutely pointless, she seemed a bit ignorant there but overall this is the best company I’ve seen so far in all these yelp series. Some businesses that don’t pay yelp get screwed over. Yelp will push bad reviews for companies that don’t get involved with yelp, whereas if the company pays them and works with them, they’ll actually delete bad reviews. I read somewhere that some companies have had fake bad reviews too. So yelp is a bit sketch, but at the end of the day, how they treat those bad reviews is what’s the most revealing

People say that every video and at this point, I think if Vice could, they would do it that way, as it would clearly be a better way to see what's up. I believe they reason they don't is the potential for lawsuits. Bringing up the reviews is the next best thing. Personally, this lady's business seemed pretty solid compared to others in this series.

the fact they were willing to whiten when there was a cavity... o_0 my dentist told me i was an excellent candidate for whitening coz my teeth were so healthy. i said that i had sensitive teeth and she was like oh, nevermind, you won't want that then. ps - for anyone who is experiencing sensitivity due to loss of enamel -- use act restore. my dentist recommended that and it actually strengthens your enamel. sensodyne only masks the condition. act restore helps fix it.

Wrap World Creations if your a dentist that’s extremely easy to pay off. Do you realize how expensive dental procedures are? It adds up when a person is paying paying up to 2k lol or less it depends on what they are having done. This shit can be soo darn expensive if ya don’t have it covered that is:) either way they get paid. No loss for the dentist.

A basic Dental education is close to half a million dollars and that doesn’t include if you specialize. Add that onto the bills to keep everything operating, paying employees and being in a much higher tax bracket ...they make less than you’d think 😂

all of the reviews are pussies who can't take any amount of pain. dental work always hurts to some degree and this whitening procedure doesn't hurt any more than any other whitening procedure done in a different dentist. also yelp does some shady shit sometimes, the reviews you see aren't always legit
