I am 24 years old and I've never watched this show in my life, but I remember my Brothers making fun of me for talking about how cool Keith David was as a voice Actor from his days on Saints Row. I was walking past my older Brothers TV as he watches Cartoons with his Daughter and all I hear in the background is "we are Defenders of the Night. We are Gargoyles!" With that amazing music in the background and I just got chills down my spine.

Keith David's distinct, rumbling baritone voice can be heard throughout a number of animated series over the last several decades, including as Goliath in the much-revered Gargoyles cartoon in the 1990s.

This series had every mark of a master-stroke. The Writing was always amazing and never talked down to the viewer. The Voice Acting was impeccable. The Story work was both amazing and silly in all the best ways. I loved this series and would give of my life and flesh to see more. Especially if they revived the series in some capacity with the original staff or voice crew.... rest in Peace Ed Asner... But I would enjoy and love to see a finale to the series. Something of a happy ending to our dark heroes.

There are mysteries to the universe we were never meant to solve, but who we are and why we are here, are not among them. Those answers we carry inside.

Now I can watch this masterpiece again on Disney+

Gargoyles was on a completely different level than anything ever produced by Disney. Its narrative was mature, gothic, dense, action-oriented, heavily serialized and featured a wide array of morally complex characters, many of whom were pulled straight out of Shakespearean and Arthurian literature. There were certainly weird elements to this fantasy lore, including a multitude of national gargoyle clans and mutated human/animal hybrids, but these were all contrasted against a grounded New York setting with actual human characters.

Our times aren't afraid of that either.

Sunniva Vangen Robberstad i feel like now on the younger channels they dont give as much plot, emotion, and as much dark elements in the shows as they used too. Some shows are good but not as much as before to me.

@Abraham, it's true though. Look at shows like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe, which aren't afraid to be dark and suspenseful. And these are modern cartoons. Over the Garden Wall is dark as well.

Just like Hunchback of Notre Dame, Gargoyles will go down in history as one of the strangest things that Disney has ever made. And also one of my favorites.

This theme fits with itself and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall pretty well

If Gargoyles is ever to be rebooted, it shall be done in glorious 2D animation. It shall be done with all or at least most of the original actors. And finally, it will take all of Gargoyles lore to make it something truly special. I think it shouldn't copy episodes from the original series but rather should borrow from its predecessor while at the same time being it's own series.

"Self-knowledge is a rare and sustaining prize, hard-won and elusive. The greatest warriors are those who know when to ask for help. Pride can blind a man or gargoyle, denying him the power of living the truth. In these difficult times, I fear for Hudson, for though he is strong, he is also uncommonly proud."

From popular series to more niche offerings, Keith David adds gravitas to whatever project he has working on.
