My father served with the former Canadian Airborne Regiment long before it was amalgamated. It was the height of his long military career and he lived for the Airborne.

It's a 3 week course. At least it was in 97 when I took it. I did so much hanging from the risers and chin ups my upper body / grip strength seemed to double in that time. Best 3 weeks I had in my 3 year contract. Other than a week I spent in France for the honour guard for vimy ridge and other battlefields we went to for the anniversary
@danalevers6517 жыл бұрын
That's the exact thing I'd love to do just after uni. 3 year contract and paratrooper course. You sure are lucky you got to do it!

It was late fall in 08’ members of my cadet core where deep in a nav ex at playtime park, I still feel the chills of nearly +4. We found a sand hill nearly 8 feet I’d say, we were practicing our jump skills for a nasty day at chucky cheeses. Injury rate was high on workup. Lost a lot of good kids that day.
@Baseshocks12 жыл бұрын
hewittdj1, describes it, we also have a reserve para unit near Toronto "Queens Own Rifles" i believe they are called, on top of that we have several jump qualified personnel, meaning each year the jump course is run with a number of open spots, anyone who wants to take it, no matter what unit they belong too. If a crises came too we could put the jump qualified personal along side the jump company's.

Yes, you are correct. I was referring to the 4 weeks of P.T.

And that's partially correct, CSOR took over where the CAR left off, and though many CAR members joined JTF2, it had taken over where the RCMP SERT had left off.

@BCoy2Pacman The lowest altitude admissible under emergency conditions is 400ft for us Canadians, which is freaking me out just thinking about it... The lowest I jumped was 800 ft and that was low enough lol

@hewittdj1 This is of interest to me because there is no listing for any kind of airborne regiment and I think it's something I would want to do if I joined the CF

@hewittdj1 I believe it was in '94. And the 'incident' was in my understanding two individuals that killed a hostage during interrogation. You are also right however in saying it was a political thing. The Prime Minister at the time only lasted 4 months, and it was because of massive budget cuts in the Canadian Forces. That incident was what brought the CAR to the spotlight in my belief.

Canadian airborne has jumped from as little as 200 ft! in the 90's they used the airborne regiment as test dummies to see if a jump from 200 ft could be done if they needed to do it.
@jeromemack67925 жыл бұрын
Theyd never do that now, your chute would deploy a second before you touch the ground, they wont drop you under 800 feet now

You won't forget, but if so they have a reserve in the front. Source, I've been to the bad and got the rundown of the course and went off the mock tower. I don't have the course qualification though.
@miklmiklmtrcycl60095 жыл бұрын
noah nolastnameforu in the A Canadian army you hook up yourself. You then do a standing equipment check and the jumper behind you inspects you line and you inspect the line for the jumper ahead of you. Then the jump master goes down the line and inspects each jumper. So you never forget to hook up.

@phant08 жыл бұрын
+coolbuddydude1 Mostly infantrymen in airborne units get these courses. But if you keep yourself highly fit, constantly work hard to be seen as a "switched on individual" and have a bit of luck to be in the right unit at the right time, you might get the opportunity to get loaded on one of those courses regardless of your trade.
@tankkiller417 жыл бұрын
Ya I was a tanker for 20 years and they give us a course every now and then..But they don't like to because that means one of their own loses a spot on the course.
