That was truly amazing and a bit unsettling for me, because I recently purchased a 1D X and had no idea what was hidden away under the hood. The power unit on my own model unfortunately failed so needed to be replaced, but the shutter has had less than 2,000 actuations so this particular work will never be needed. Thank you for showing us how it gets done.

if thats the shutter being replaced. it comes to mind that the mirror moves as much as the shutter. doesnt the mirror assembly need replacement by the same time as the shutter? cause it move as much? just some thoughts. i have only been disassembling and repairing lenses so far.

Superb video! Apart from a few moments where I cannot see what is being done. Only guess. My 1DXii have been submerged and if full of white flakes and dust that comes out of the house everywhere. Doesn't work since then. I have carefully cleaned everything outside and in compartments. Nice and clean and got the cf/cfast card door and eject smooth again as well as on/lock/off, battery compartment, and external socket doors/connectors. Only two buttons are stuck, and that is the lens eject and the vertical format Depth of filed preview button, both are stuck in their pressed down position. Have not been taken apart ever. I would like to try this and clean every single part inside and reassemble. At least now it's only an expensive paperweight. Kind regards.

Oh, restoring a camera after water is not easy, and most often impossible. Wish you luck

Does anyone know how much does Canon charge to do this? I heard they have to flash the software to the camera after it’s done. I have a 1dx mark ii that shutter assembly needs replacing

my 1 Dx mark 2 sensor will be damaged by laser light so how much money are required to purchase new sensor

Do you have to calibrate anything after the replacement? I think the brass shims between the mirror box and the viewfinder should not be mixed, at least keep one side from the other.

I calibrated nothing. The video was created for informational purposes only, this is not a call to repeat my actions

Haiqing, replacing the shutter mechanism doesn’t require you to remove the viewfinder/prism assembly. You are correct that the copper shims are in place to match the viewfinder’s field of view to the sensor (parallax error) and needs to be checked once the mirror finder assembly is removed.

@@Galf506 part number is CG2-3007 from 1Dx and CG2-4750 from 1Dx mkII. But shutters is the same. You can use both numbers. I aslo has a parts catalog, let me know your email if needed. And remember, you do this at your own risk

the fun part is that you can do it yourself and save a ton of money....no matter if you have the skills or not. just be careful and document every bit of screw and moment....

canon no longer repair the first 1DX they should still repair the 1DX2.

You can take the screen off a 5D III and put it on the 1Dx. Panels the same, aluminum hardware that holds it in place is different but it’ll screw off.
