6D is not better in low light than the D600/610. Canon uses a noise reduction which does smooth out the noise but at the expense of loss of detail. Plus Canon has no built in flash,no focus assist light. Nikon wins with better DR as well.

But 6D has only 1 card slot, and crappy focusing system (almost same system as 5D mark 1 that I got from 2005), both features really make me not wanting to get it. 6D isn't designed for pro photographer while D600 is. It's easily proved by their respectable prices, D600/610 is still $2000 right now in US, while 6D has dropped to $1500 after 1 year of release, which means they are getting owned by D600/610 in sales.

Yang Yang Only one card slot? I've never had a card skip a beat in 10 years of using DSLR's and there's no confusion as to what's on which card. Have you used the focus system of the 6D or just repeating some others' comments? Its superb, really fast and accurate. Most of us crop decent photos so to use the centre point is no big deal. By the time you've faffed about changing the focus point the picture could be gone. True, its not as fast as the 5D3 but actually I can tell you from experience that its a good system and in low light, probably the best there is. There are many pros who are using a 6D for their paid work, and if its cheaper then great for us, we get a fantastic camera even cheaper - who wants to pay top prices?

DrummingSpain You haven't experienced card failure? Trust me you don't want to risk it, there is a chance you can't recover most of the files. I had a Trescend SD card fail way back then and a SanDisk fail recently, couldn't recover anything from the Trescend but recovered a little over half the files from SanDisk with the software. But trust me you don't want it to happen, it's always good to have backups in the field. It may not have happened to you yet, but you don't want to lose files EVER. And yes I've tried 6D and 5D III both in store, the 6D is no where near the capability of the 5D III, it feels "barely sufficient" like the old 5D 1 and 2. I would give up the WiFi/GPS function on 6D just to have 2 slots and the focusing system in 7D (which Canon deliberately DIDN'T put into 6D). I know 6D is 1-2 stops better than D600 in high ISO, but most people don't shoot over ISO 6400 most of the time anyways. For event/wedding shoots I do, I don't need anything above 6400 since I use fast lenses. And other times I shoot landscape, I don't use anything above ISO 400. D600/610 are way more popular than 6D, as proved with the recent huge price cuts on 6D recently.

I agree, I'm a Canon fan but why must Canon always hold something back? Will it kill them to add more AF focus points? The Nikon D300 had 51 back in 2008, that 9-11 diamond configuration BLOWS, I could deal with it if it was rectangular.

That said, I never considered a Nikon DSLR after I found out that I could adapt m42 lenses to Canon but not to Nikon (which is why I got my first - the 100D). the fact that the sensor is able to produce more dynamic range, and tonal range is more important in a camera. And they don't even mention it. The Nikon is able to offer that, more than the Canon. You can call many things to Kai, but he's very professional in his reviews, at least from an ethic point of view.

I disagree with you, I have worked with both cameras and no doubt the D600 fared much better as much in high and low lights. In various tests shown in this internet claims to. But each has a taste! :)

There is no choice for hobbyist: D600, D610, D7000, D7100 have oil issues, I tried D7200, but its ergonomics just sucks because of simplified top screen + "higher ISOs" are actually just more agressive NR (compare 2 images in ACR and by using Nikon's codecs side by side). Plus who knows if it has oil issue. Even D800 afaik have this. What a hell? Google "canon oil issue" and you'll get plenty NIKONs links, but no Canon. Marketing is going to kill Nikon (as well as other brands). Where such fabulous cameras like d300, d90? Most likely I will sell my Nikon's gear, at least Canon honorably takes care for its customers and has range of cameras for non-pros.

I totally agree, I have always had Nikon and and fed up with them now. My D600 was the same as yours. Anything smaller than f8 (macro for instance) showed oil spots on the sensor and Nikon were useless until they HAD to do something before being taken to court. Before my D600 I owned the D800 and it had a ghastly yellow LCD and the pictures all had a yellow tint. People said it did not matter if you shoot raw but it mattered to me that the screen was vile on a camera that I paid a lot of money for. And then along comes the D750. I thought it would be the camera of my dreams and then the flare issue appeared and they quickly recalled it. Now I don't know f I did purchase this, whether I would get a repaired model or a new one off the production line. Either way it is a bodge repair job that they are doing to a camera that was not designed correctly in the first place. I am now waiting for the follow up to the 6D that I demo'd and loved.

I got 3 D600 bodies with lenses and when they failed ALL three of them, I needed cameras for a job in 3 weeks... SUUUUURE I'll wait two years on the HOPE that Nikon will give me free sensor cleans for life 2 years before the lawsuit forced them to accept my claim as THEIR fault... Im not sure you actually read my post because I lost several thousands of dollars when I had to rebook an engagement because the engagement session was just unusable. And when Nikon said it was my fault and I had 3 weeks to shoot another Engagement session, AND the wedding the following week, I bought Canon and even after all that, that one failed Engagement session took a hit to my brand and I gave the whole wedding for free to avoid upset parents. When I got the Cameras repaired ONE YEAR before Nikon accepted fault through the lawsuit, I sold the cameras as a loss - and Nikon CHARGED me for the repair. And only a few months ago, Nikon finally gave back my money for the repair. But after going into debt (cause I had to buy extra camera bodies for the wedding and giving a wedding for free to save my brand) and losing 3 bookings because of the so-so review I got a month later. So I wish I was a blind Brand follower, and kept the cameras for two years in the hope Nikon will lose a lawsuit to finally accept fault, and I would totally have gotten three D610 and free cleans for life, because I totally don't have an actual business that relies on having multiple bodies that work when bought... yaaaaay!

I'm pretty sure nobody cares about dxomark's lab test anymore... nobody who actually shoots alot... There's a general consensus that the dxo tests aren't lining up with practical testing and dxo has shown a bias towards Nikon test performance, exaggerating the results. I'm not saying Nikon is bad, but I wouldn't cite dxo much anymore. You will get booted out of more than one argument. In this case the tests do lie. Also, the 6D isn't the # performer, but it is definitely the more versatile of two cameras.

+blackjohnny0 6D does have AF, not sure what you mean that it doesn't. It doesn't have much Dynamic Range unfortunately. Nikon makes superior cameras but their customer service sucks. Sony makes good cameras but their AF sucks balls!

D600 has a lot of quality issues and has shit performance at high ISO. i switched from nikon to canon because of this. the D600 has an ongoing issue where the mirror spills lubricant all over the censor. look it up.

solomonshv That's true but Nikon have just released the D610 to address that issue.

To me, the noise performance is king over everything else. Canon seems like the winner. If you cared less about the noise, then honestly you should probably be going for a 5D mkII instead; you can find them for the same price or less than the 6D. Magic Lantern is a HUGE gain too for the Canon. Shooting RAW video is unbelievable and beats the h264 movies by a huge margin...not to mention all of the other features that Magic Lantern unlocks as well.

Personally I like to get s much done in camera so there is less to do in post. White balance is pretty important to me.

Im a studio photographer - I always set it to Flash for the studio and Auto for landscapes. Try and shoot off camera flash in Auto WB and you will see why its important.

+Francesco Scinico Actually everyone says Nikon has better skin tones, which Sony sensors are renowned for. Are you sure you checked the correct pictures? Not trying to diss Canon, since I own one, but even in this test is clear how Canon has red and darker skin tones while Nikon has more natural and pleasant pink, expecially considering the higher dynamic range.

+AndreCorner I show a direct comparison on the DPReview forums between a Fuji S5 Pro and a Nikon D7000. The D7000 was a great camera, but skin tones were simply awful. My previous D5100 was ok. My 6D is not perfect for skin tones, but pleasant. Haven't tried D600 (but I hear pictures have a greenish tint, like the D7000), but I hear great things about the D750 in regards to skin tones. Keep in mind I shoot jpeg (just pictures of my kids). Raw mileage may vary.

Lourenço Montibello To be fair, Nikon may be good in Dynamic Range. But still, their video quality is still behind the rest. And as for now, Canon is still behind Sony and Panasonic. For example, Canon still have not yet release an affordable consumer/prosumer 4K cameras where's Sony and Panasonic with their A7S and GH4 rocks on 4K ultra definition video recording.
