I want to thank you for all the great tutorials. You're tutorials are, if not the best, at least in the running for best, for their clear and concise explanations and demonstrations. Easy to follow, even though they tackle difficult subjects, and the full explanation of the why, as well as the how, are a fantastic resource. I retired five years ago and photography has become a passion. I spent two years learning from some great Lynda.com instructors (Ben Long, Chris Orwig, Deke McClelland, etc). I started with Capture One for Fuji about a year ago and have used it extensively. I have found several good KZfaqrs, led by David Grover, for Capture One, but as stated above, yours are the best. Thanks again.

Paul, your Capture One videos are excellent. I'm learning a lot. You use clear language coupled with a deep understanding of the program's possibilities. A great help for those of us who have stopped using LR!

I watched quite a lot of your videos ( unfortunately always missed the live sessions) over the last weeks, and imagining how difficult it must be for a professional photographer, to explain all this stuff to us, you are doing a very good job! really, really good and understandable explanations and quick side comments out of the main topic. We not only learn how to process our pictures, we even get tips how to look with photographers-eyes on them. love the way you explain, so we get what you are talking about, even if english is not our mother-language. thank you and keep on going, please.

So helpful - what a great explanation of all these tools! I never thought about creating any styles or presets of my own, but I am sure going to do so now.

And, if you use the Mac-Version of Capture One, you can use applescript to add layers whit presets or styles. So you can add the "Teal & Orange Effect" simply whit one click. :-)

This tuto was so helpful Paul ! It will save me a lot of future time editing. ;-) Thank you so much ! There is one thing I found out about capture one, is that user style and user preset category only appear in style/preset menu as soon as you have created one. Before this won't appear as an option. Surprising in fact, don't you think so ?
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 3 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped Olivier! And remember, in 21.1, Style Brushes allow you to combine multiple tools into a master "preset" (ish) to be brushed in for future images too.

Hey man ! This tutorial is really helpful. I like the Orange and Teal tones. I am just wondering, can you make the same preset and tutorial on how to make dark tone and moody tones. like black/red , dark/brown etc. like you did in teal and orange. THank you so much
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Vincent - glad it helped! The tutorials are designed to show how to perform functions, and from there you can explore those functions with your own style. So, experiment, play, and create as many "moody tone" styles as you want, now you know the tools you need to do it. :-)

Paul, as many have said, great job, especially on the pacing of the videos. Many Capture One videos would have taken an hour to explain what you did in 15 minutes. Thank You. Question: I assume there are no presets for the Brush Tool ie: Hardness, Flow, etc. If not this would be great for future versions like in Photoshop.

Thanks :-) It's a good idea - maybe worth sending a Feature Request in on support.captureone.com to get it logged. The more people who ask for a certain feature, the higher up the list it'll go...!

Great presentation Paul. But it appears that you can only create a style out of ONE adjustment layer, is that correct? I tend to segregate all of my adjustments into different layers, if not able to do this in a style, is there a macro language or recording ability in C1 that I could hit that would create my separate layers for me and fill in the adjustment on each one? Example, could I have automatically first change to Linear Response, and then create a layer for contrast change, a layer to brighten, and layer that applies Clarity, Structure and Sharpening? This is the basic workflow for all of my Leica M10M shots as that I always try to shoot slightly underexposed, so as to not risk blowing out the highlights, etc...all of the shots require most of these steps I described above. Is there a way to automate this? Is this something styles can do in a more complex way or is there a macro type recorder for more complex things than user styles? Thank you in advance, CC
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 3 жыл бұрын
You could do it in AppleScript, but yes - a style is created from one layer :-)

Hi Paul, Another great video you have created 😊👍. Is it possible to save the auto-function of the levels tool into a preset/style?
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 4 жыл бұрын
So, I need to double-check, BUT I don't think it'll work. The preset/style will remember the values that the [Auto] function decided. So while 27 / 232 (for example) has been decided on image1, it might not "re-assess" image2, instead just applying the same 27/232 settings that were locked in. Bear with me - let me see.....
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah - just tested. Remember you can't "Auto-Level" a layer, so only possible to save as a preset, and even then (it does make logical sense for now), it will apply the LITERAL numbers that the [Auto] function arrived at, rather than the function itself, to the new layer. So, if [Auto] decides you need 44/210 on Image1, if you save that as a preset, it will apply 44/210 to any future images (not re-evaluate). I'm sure that's not the answer you were hoping for, but hopefully at least it clears it up!

Paul Reiffer - Photographer Hi Paul, Thank you for checking this. It would be a nice option to have the auto function in a style/preset. For example, I also edit a lit if old scanned photos. They all have the same result with minor changes by the auto level function. Lot’s of greetings, Dennis 🇳🇱

I noticed that when I right click on a Built-In Style for a RAW file, I'm unable to Apply to a New Layer. Any thoughts?
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 4 жыл бұрын
It depends what functions are in the style. Some tools (such as Film Grain, for example) can ONLY be applied to a background layer of an image. In that case, the "Apply to Current/New Layer" function will be greyed out, as it's not possible to apply that particular style to a Layer. If a style has elements that only affect tools that can be applied to a layer, then all options will be open to you. It's another reason why clicking ALL of the options when saving a style can be risky - better to only click the ones you intend to carry across! Hope that makes sense!

Paul: Is there a way to have Capture One do an automatic adjustment through styles or presets? I usually do auto for levels, and would like that to be part of some of my styles. As far as I know styles records the values in the various tools you have chosen to save, it does not change the values according to the info in the raw file. So again, is there a way for it to execute the auto function for a tool (like the levels tool)?
@Paulreiffer
@Paulreiffer 4 жыл бұрын
Not at the moment. As you've discovered, the style or preset will store the actual values, not a flag to say "re-assess" on application - sorry.

@@Paulreiffer Well maybe next update, worth considering. Also to be able to do more than one gradient (radial or linear) on a layer (like Lightroom allows). But this was a great update and the one thing that kept me from going full time Capture One was the heal and clone stamp, which now are great. Love all your videos.
