Building a custom bespoke carbon fiber bimini seems like a great idea. We have a Beneteau 49 sailboat and the bimini is falling off, so why not! This is the first step in the ACTUAL hardtop, everything leading up to this point.
Shorter episode because well, the next one is exciting :-)
Sit back enjoy and subscribe!
Thanks all

Very exciting. It does add dimension to the boat. The profile view has nice symmetry from the top of the arch to the waterline. I would imagine a few nerves in your stomach as it starts to piece together. Ben Newport Beach, CA

This has been a ton of work. If this fits and works the first time, you two need to open a boat top shop when you are done with your world tour. If it doesn't work, try try again. I'm still worried about big gusts of wind turning your boat into a kite or ripping it off, but I trust you two will figure it out.

HI guys , having worked in a glassfiber factory for a few years making parts for coaches and some boats , i know you are going to reinforce where the new legs bolt to the hull , a structure is only as strong as its weakest link . and to reinforce where the bolts intrude into the hull on the inside can only be a good thing , just saying is all . love youre channel and what you are doing , looks fantastic .keep up the great work .

This carbon fiber layout is a very labor intensive project, but the results are very impressive. I did not realize that the foam in the stanchions would be removed. So, is there a threaded boss that is part of the assemblies that facilate fastening the sections together? Good work you two!
@zakwhite7645
@zakwhite7645 5 күн бұрын
CONCERN CONCERN!!!! Bret, your bolts on your Carbon Fiber wings attachment to the boat, need a metal stock plate that you screw into. Inside your wing and under your boat fiberglass. Currently you have a 1.5" washer/bolt. Over time those fibers are going to wear. Take anything plastic and move it back and forth enough times and you will have 2 pieces. Same theory with your 2 bolt holes for your carbon wings.

That boat better be fast. Looks a bit like a '71 Dodge Daytona, and what's not to like about that. A bit more curve, though. Super job, and gives your boat a very customized look, I think. But then, I know nothing about boats.

Well its progress , but the way you've patch worked the black carbon fibreglass in some ares and not others is rather puzzling to me ? Why are the legs in two parts? If they'd have core and couple of layers of wrap around fiber, they'd be like about 1000 or more times stiffer sideways. Also, if they were stiffer, there would be less local bending on the mounting points and so on. It wouldn't be the first time that the solar arc turns out to be too flexible sideways

The thicker the beam, the stronger it will be - Spear It Animal did what looked like 1.75" foam core with fiberglass on both sides, which seems to be strong enough - sort of surfboard dimensions. Why are you guys going so thin with yours? The foam doesn't weigh anything, so why not have a thicker cross section?
