Carl is singing at an event of a close family friend where he was a guest. It is June of 1992. The position of the band stand that was determined by management and the band that worked the event, was awkward with no other options due to the lack of space.

I met Carl when I was in H.S. In the ‘90’s. He took time to talk to me backstage at Jones Beach. He couldn’t have been nicer. Just the loveliest, nicest, most down to earth guy taking time to talk to a 17 year old. I will never forget those few minutes w Carl for the rest of my life. What a talent. What a heart. What a loss.

Unreal, loving the Wilson Brothers since 1963, going to the Beach Boys with my friends at the first show (that I am aware of) where Brian was a no show. Has been joy and pain. Knowing now how special they are, they can't be judged against others.. thank God for them way more joy than the sadness.

This and Caroline No are songs that wouldn't sound more beautiful if real Ang els came down and joined Carl. The man had one in a million vocal chops. So many have described his kindness. He held that band together when others were ready to give up. Billy Hinsche always talked about how Carl taught him professionalism and leading by example. Carl was the whole package.

Whoa... just watched a bunch of covers of God Only Knows, which were all great, but then... THIS. Stripped back, no big professional audio setup, and he still just stopped me in my tracks. Let alone Carl's magnificent voice, his sense of rhythm on that guitar is so tight. Brian made so many creative decisions as a producer when it came to which instruments to include and who would play them (Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye etc.), but his most brilliant decision was to have Carl sing this masterpiece. Carl played for sold-out crowds and is still deeply loved by millions of people worldwide; yet, we see him dressed to the nines and ready to entertain this small gathering with all the grace and professionalism he did before packed stadiums. I agree, it may seem strange to some to become a fan of somebody who died years ago, as I have recently of Carl but though we die, great music lives on. As a Brit I've just discovered that most of my favorite BB songs are the ones Carl sings and also that he was a great songwriter. Thank God for today's technology, which allows us to discover great talent, past and present.

This performance is inspiring for every reason - the greatness of the song, the uniqueness of Carl's and the Beach Boys' vocal sound and the sincerity and passion of the singing in such an ordinary and nondescript venue. You don't see this sort of humility every day. Thank you, Carl and band.

Incredible! Only a few musicians can sound this good all by themselves without all the background singers, pitch adjusters, multiple instruments, etc. Carl Wilson is one of only a few true standalone musicians. Thanks for sharing. Keith.

This is 110% better than the BBC star studded version. Sadly I became a Beach Boys fan later in life. Didn't appreciate them as a teenager listening mainly to Zep, Floyd, and Sabbath (which I still love). Watching Carl in this intimate setting is bittersweet. I can only imagine the guest that were there. They must have left with huge smiles at the end of the night.

Checho Kiko True, I used to think Gun's N' Roses and Rolling Stones were the shit(obviously overrated and the magazine is biased towards rock) and I think Pop was shit (Pop is better than rock, I always considered Beach Boys a pop band and not a rock band because of their complicated structure of music). I also thought that today's generation sucked during my grade school days(which was not true) now that I'm in College, I appreciated music from every generation. Especially the Beach Boys, where I put Brian Wilson at a high regard and in this generation we can agree that great music never died since the likes of Mac Demarco and Tame Impala are in my generation.

Lack of space is no concern for this man. He could do that song with his voice tied behind his back just to make it fair. Also, Carl was underrated as a guitarist. How many of us cut their first record at the age of 15?

I saw Carl many times with the Beach Boys over the years and also on his solo tour around 1980 or 1981. Great talent. I always loved the way he thanked the audience "We want to thank you very, very, very, very..much for coming to the show". Somehow, he seemed to be truly thankful for being able to perform and give the fans so much joy. Brian has carried on okay over the years but when Carl passed, that ended the Beach Boys.
