Jan-25-2023. Still a favorite of mine. They were such a great group to start life with. I was about 10 when this came on the radio. Out of all of their hit songs this one was the one i loved the most. It had such beauty, harmony and clarity, to me it's what i call a perfect song. I see many others feel the same way.

While Brian was the “genius”, it was Carl (the youngest brother) who was the band’s leader/director/producer as well as adding much musical talent to their success. “God Only Knows” where The Beach Boys would have ended up without him starting in 1965. Tragic that he died at 51, but so grateful for his contributions while he was with us.

Carl was and always will be the voice and sound of the Beachboys.

It simply does not get any better than this.

There's something magical about the Beach Boys' version of this song.

Brian could always hear in his head who should sing what part. On the song "God Only Knows" Brian heard himself singing lead until they recorded it. Everyone thought it was great, but Brian. He made them re-record it and he took Carl's music and gave Carl his. On one of the greatest songs ever released had Carl Wilson as lead. I have both recordings. You can heard the difference.

What can you say about Carl's singing here & his "interpretation" of the Ronette's version? Sublime...for one. One of my favorite Beach Boy's songs.

Brian's productions were/are all so amazing; especially considering he was deaf in one ear. Thank you for this post, it's fantastic . I'm a lifelong Beach Boys fan. There was/is no one like them. Their stellar talent still shines bright today, they are timeless.
