I'm about 10 days post-op on my right hand. I hadn't been able to pick up my sketch pad and pencils/pens/brushes for a long time without my hand going numb and painful. I'm already able to begin doing my drawing! My hand is so much happier. I can hardly wait to get my left hand done. It was so worth the minimal discomfort.

Return to work the next day post op depends on what type of job you do, I’m sure heavy lifting is contraindicated for few days. Pain varies from individual to individual. Hand exercise post op sooner to prevent adhesion inside. There are lots of PT exercises option online from reputable PT vlogs. Good luck to all CTS patients that includes me.

Well I was not as lucky, it's been a month since I had an open CTR on my non-dominant hand and still continue to experience intermittent pain and tingling with movement and positioning. I sustained excruciating pain post surgery, that just moving certain fingers or lightly bumping hand would cause excruciating pain. Sensitivity on the scar has been unbearable to say the least. I did the dominant hand 2 weeks after 1st surgery and it wasn't as painful. I don't see how you said I should be able to do normal things such as feeding myself the following day. I'm assuming most people who've had this procedure haven't experience what I have. I can definitely say that it has been very difficult for me to do ADLs post surgery and recovery post surgery has been very painful. Just saying. Maybe as a surgeon you may consider that everyone doesn't experience great results, such as minimal pain. All the people I've encountered who've had had CTR surgery complain of it being very painful and how they aren't able to do ADLs right away. Maybe it's just me, buy i just can't see how u can return to work the very next day after having this procedure.

You might want to look into getting endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery, which is less invasive and has a shorter recovery time. I had both hands done 3 weeks ago and have had minimal pain. I was able to move my fingers in the recovery room after surgery, and was encouraged to work on my full range of motion by the second day, after removing the bandages. I took T3s for 3 days and haven't taken any since, although I do occasionally get mild pain near the incision site or when flexing or grippng a certain way, especially when I'm tired. I'm still gaining strength and ROM, but like this surgeon, mine also said that no physio was needed. I feel like I do need to do some gentle stretching, because things still feel a bit stiff, so I'm here on KZfaq looking for videos. I've found a few.

Ylw Dalia I had my dominant hand done 2 days ago. Im on youtube to see if other people are experiencing as little pain as me. I didnt take any pain meds for 22hrs, just to see if i get any pain (next day after surgery). I woke up with slight tenderness, but no real pain. I think this might have to do with age aswell ( as in the case of, f.ex. Tonsillectomy in children vs adults)

I just had the surgery done yesterday. And what he says here that most people can work one day after surgery and eating and dressing is possible directly after surgery is complete bs! My own doctor told me that I am supposed to completely keep the hand still for 3 days and can't expect to do anything with it for 10 days. I'm out of work for "at least" 3 weeks and right now feel like crap. This guy obviously has no idea what he is talking about.

in Retrospective i can tell that the first 14 days were the toughest. I went back to work after 3 weeks, but didn't really use my hand (typed with one hand) for another week. I started carefully typing 4 weeks after surgery and confidently typed again 6 weeks after surgery. I tried stuff like cycling after 8 weeks, but it was to early. 10 weeks in, and cycling worked pretty well, although i have to be careful with the hand. Now 13 weeks have passed after the surgery and i do almost everything (when carrying heavy stuff i feel a certain limit) but still have a light swell on the hand. I read somewhere online in a forum that many people need 6 - 12 month to feel completely no restrictions. Maby I'll update this when i get to the point. When i imagine that i had to do work as a craftsman i think i couldn't have done it earlier than 8 weeks after surgery.

@suzandani0
@suzandani0 3 жыл бұрын
Is it the thumb, pointer, middle, and part of your ring finger? Because those fingers are controlled with the median nerve, which gets compressed under the carpal tunnel... if its the pinkey or other half of your ring finger, ITS NOT CARPAL TUNNEL... Pay attention to where specifically the symptoms are

i had my surgery at the Veterans Affairs Hospital 3 years ago. i will never recommend carpal tunnel surgery to anyone. i was told i would have 100% use of my hand and the only risk with the surgery was infection. i now have 50% use of my hand and i have constant severe pain and a bad burning sensation in the hand now. the Veterans Affairs hospital surgeon ruined my hand. i was told the success rate is only 60%. do not go through with this surgery!
