In this video we take carving polymer clay beads a few steps further than in Carving Beads Part 1. (see Part 1 here: • Carved Beads 1 ) In these steps you will use mica powders and how to use sanding and staining techniques for different effects on your beads.
The supplies you will need for this project, besides your polymer clay, are
1) a craft knife,
2) acrylic paint thinned with water in a 10 parts water to 1 part paint for staining, and
3) sanding papers in 120, 220, 320 and 400 grit (do not use wet/dry sandpaper wet). You can also use finer grits, depending upon the amount of shine you want on the finished bead.)
4.) a linoleum cutter ( if you choose to use one, I used the Speedball Linoleum Cutter Assortment #1. You can find one here: www.dickblick.com/products/sp...
Thanks for watching, and enjoy!

There are a lot of ways to make beautiful beads, but these aren't just beautiful, every one is an artwork. You have taken something a beginner can do and made it so their work can look great. Thank you for the inspiration. Also thank you for showing the make-up brush cleansing mat. At last there are "texture sheets" I can afford :)

you can literallly use anything for texture or whatever you want to make you just have to get creative... theres more than just the expensive artsy option and always a regular option thats probably used for something else again just gotta get creative and think about other things tho, i understand it could be alil difficult to think of something else that has a pur pose on its own and then thinking to use it for art when youre just starting cuz it just doesnt click super fast

I love your creative approach in trying a bunch of different things. Do you find you need to put any kind of protective varnish to keep the stain from wearing off?
@priscillaandrewsprairiepar7062
@priscillaandrewsprairiepar7062 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I did not cover and pieces with a finish. They are so well sanded and the stain is in scratches so I think it's good. Over worn many pieces over and over have have not noticed and fading. Good question, though, thanks again!

A very informative tutorial. Love the shine of the silver beads. What kind of silver powder did you use, and where can I get some?

Thank you for your kind comment! The silver powder I used is actually a nail art powder. It's CNDc Enhancements Additives, Pigment Effect, Pave Diamonds. I hope that helps!

Theses are beautiful!, I've been searching for a technique like this. Just a question, will any acrylic paint work? Could I use house paint (only have house paint and cheap poster paint). I'm guessing it's better to use quality paints so they aren't as likely to rub or wash off as these aren't sealed?
@priscillaandrewsprairiepar7062
@priscillaandrewsprairiepar7062 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I'm took so long to reply! Yes, any water based paint can be thinned out and used. Just make sure it's very thinned out because those paints tend to be very thick and you would be sanding forever! And I don't use expensive paints, I use the cheap craft paint in little bottles!
