This is a simple experiment to see if I can use the lost wax method to pour a bronze handle onto a piece of ceramic pottery. It didn't turn out well, but I learned a few things.
I also try again to cast a 3D printed garden gnome riding a crab. Yes, maybe a bit odd, but fun none the less. Still not perfect, but my results were much better.
I hope you enjoy.

Well, you can't fail unless you try and I think it's a great experiment! One learns and progresses. I'd love to see you try the pewter. And perhaps a grogged clay (such as used sometimes in raku to minimize thermal shock). Thanks for sharing your experiments -- you do thing no one else tries.

I enjoy your creativity and willingness to experiment, I always look forward to your videos. I am the creative type also, I am a custom knife maker (Bladesmith) and retired veteran out in California, and I love your channel and what you do.

Great experiment. I wonder if it would be possible to plan and account for the shrinkage such that the metal firmly (but not too firmly) grasps the pot after cooling. Anyways, nice work!

Could you paint a thin layer of plaster between the vase and the wax before wrapping the wax around it, just to give a bit of space between the two for the metal to contract into?

Just scrolled across your channel. Very interesting experiment. To bad it cracked. Pewter would be a good choice to try. Maybe even zinc. New subscriber.

Having the metal go only mostly around the pottery might help. That way the metal can contract without putting as much pressure on the ceramic.

That...is a good idea. Thank you.

Cool experiment! There are some alloys that don't shrink and also melt at lower temperature. look for bismith content for that, it might work then? Not sure, you'll have to try it

I suppose the gnome/crab abomination was inspired by the Dungeons and Dragons creature called the Drider? Half dark elf and half giant spider?
