I love that cabin!!! I flew out when I worked for one of the airlines to hunt deer. What an amazing cabin, I won’t leak the deets. I thought it looked familiar when I saw it in the first video. We got dropped off on the lake. We caught some very nice trout and I also hooked into a late run silver salmon in November. I’ll end up going back, be sure to write in the log!

fly casting catches are very special to me. I’ve learned from a pal who’s been obsessed for +30 years. he’s advised that you have to be patient & put in the time…like everything else, building hours leads to successes that come more frequent. it’ll happen for Matts this trip & when it does, we’ll sure as hell see it light him up.

Sorry for the prior remark about filming your whole Alaska trip. This is total poetry in motion. I love it. I have never used a fly rod and only use one lure for trout. On another thought. There are only a couple wild animals that go after deer, so be watchful and take care. Thanks for continuing your trip on video.

When fly fishing for steelhead, you want to cast down stream at about a 45 degree angle to the opposite bank. This will allow for a more optimal swing, allowing the fly to swing in the deep water as well. You would be super surprised where they are as I’ve caught them in water as shallow as 6 inches and as deep as 10-15 feet. Pink, purple, and blue are super hot colors for steelhead. Check out some intruder style flies, as they like to attack their prey from the rear. The dirty hoh, Senyo AI, hobo Spey, and intruders worked well last time I was in Alaska.

Yo I’m a guide up here in Alaska. Love that spot. But you don’t need 8lb. You can run a lot heavier. Plus you don’t need to play em so much. And swing the bead after the dead drift. Trust me it works. N thanks for not talking about the spots name.

You need to hit them when they cone into the river in the fall after the salmon. More likely to take a fly and when hook one the silver lightning bolts are out of the water more than they are in.
