Hey Matt, the oyster farmers in Little Bay are dealing with oyster loses because of a parasite called the “Mud Blister Worm” they effect all bivalves and will burrow through the shell. This parasite is effecting both wild and farmed oysters. Another possible reason for the shells: they could be getting washed up on shore from the die off that happens on the oyster farms. The farmers are encouraged to leave the shells in the water to promote an oyster reef.

Hi Matt, I recently got into oystering and digging for steamers. This looks like little or great bay! Hard to find spots to park and get access to the bay for shellfishing, I'm curious if you don't mind sharing specifically where this spot is? Good video my man! Grew up on a oyster farm. been 3 years since i had my last oyster now , I do believe i have the cravings lol. the dead ones intrigue me, I just may rewatch this vid while sober. Oysters are funny creatures, they drink the kool-aid from now and then. mass suicide is a common thing. guess you know this from the "Die off" comment. When i eat them lil fuckers i like to just chuck them and add some black pepper and occasional lemondrops. good bread with good oliveoil or butter is elevating the meal but you should try this quick recipe!. Chuck the badboy , add black pepper and a miniscule ammount of garlic in some of them and white pepper/dill in the other ones. the bastards are staying in the halfshell, i go 50/50. ( or just go with whatever seasoning you like) buy some good "swiss" cheese im a fan of the jarlsberg being norwegian. throw a slice of that cheese on the fucker and put it in an oven at the highest temperature your oven can muster. grill the cunt until brown. i like some charred bubbles. regulate the temperature acordingly if you need to either boil off some bacteria or you simply dont like the rawness. Ibelieve that the garlic/dill fiddyfiddy is a good combo. alternate eating them while drinking some good pilsner or wine. add some sriracha or whatever. I miss my little oyster friends. PS: I am severly drunk at this point and heading to bed, please excuse gramatical errors or offending words.
