We take a look at adjustment the “mixture” or amount of fuel that the CAV diesel pump squirts. How to adjust for more of less pressure at the diesel nozzles.

I used to drive a Peugeot 504 diesel with a stick in the late 1970s. It did 0-60 mph in about 20 seconds. I thought that was slow. It did about 85 maxed out. I I also had a 1991 Land Rover Defender 90 2.5na that was slow too. 65 maxed out with a tail wind.

Oh yeah! The small displacement diesels of the 80’s. I use to drive many 1.6L diesel VW Golf (Rabbit in USA) from the 80’s. They were slow but could climb a hill. I would be happy to hit 45 in my Series 2A. Thank you for watching!

I learned to drive in a diesel 2A, there was only one place for the throttle, on the boards....

A a correct testbench for cav pumps and tell them the condition of the engine. Pay their bill and become happy. NEVER TOUCH HVO DIESEL don't believe a word about it. Greeting from a downgoing nation

Good day Sir. This pump has actually gone to the diesel shop a couple times. Lots of money spent. I tried to tweet a little more power out but ended up needing to adjust the timing chain. Thank you for watching.

Cory, you do realise that a standard 2 1/4 diesel doesn't like to go much over 40mph?....they scream like they're going to explode at anything over that!.....Also I'm disappointed that your CAV pump is not only incredibly clean, but also doesn't appear to have the regulation diesel leak from the o rings on the throttle control shaft....🤣👍

@@conrad1468 they are pretty reliable engines, but sadly lacking in power....that's why my Series Two has a 200 tdi engine in it now 😁👍

@@GrumpsBarn I would love to do a 200TDI swap. Just none are in the USA. Well… let me say no “affordable” 200TDI in the USA. 😀

Cory. Great video. Thank you. A quick question. I have a series 3 2 1/4 diesel. She ticks along nicely, but i get gray/blue smoke (unburnt fuel) when she is loaded. I know the emissions standards of modem vehicles eliminates almost all exhaust. I have the power (w overdrive) what should I accept for smoke levels. I have adjusted the CAV pump timing a few degrees and I think it is running well. But how much of the smoke can actually be eliminated? or will there always be smoke?

Thank you Sir! Sounds like you have plenty of power. Smoke will always come out with a diesel. It is the nature of the beast. How is your timing chain? After being warmed up it would still puff out white smoke out of the tail pipe at idle. Once I adjusted my timing chain the smoke was gone.

You are adjusting the injector´s pump timing advance, not how much fuel goes in. Your problem is that the governor´s spring goes in the second hole of the throttle lever.
