Great video Cory. I remember using what looks to be an almost identical injector tester when I worked on ALCO diesels 20 years ago as an apprentice. We used to spray onto a piece of blotting paper and check the spray pattern against the ideal pattern in the manual. You could pick up blocked or worn spray holes that way. From memory the ALCOs had 10 (maybe 8?) holes per nozzle so the spray pattern looked like a daisy and each 'petal' needed to have a similar shape, length and density. Anyway, I suppose if you are still getting fouled injectors, the next step would be the pump to ensure that each injector is getting the same amount of fuel, but it might pay to check the cylinder compression too. Worn rings or poorly seating valves can give you headaches there. The metal you found in the injector is a bit worrying! Hopefully it's just debris from the inside of the fuel pipes. Thank you Sir! The diesel rebuild shop has the same tool along with pump testers. Old school shop. No need to change what works right?!?! Interesting about the spray pattern on paper. That would answer explain a lot. In my future videos I’ll will be addressing some of those issues you suggest. We dive deep!! 😀 The little pieces of metal are from the metal hoses. It was on the threads. So I made sure to clean and use compressed air to clean the lines.

It's a balance between the proper pressure and pump cam wear...you want to be pretty darn close to design pressure so you don't have accelerated wear on the pump...

on the injector where the 2 pins are the flat surface will get hammered from the needle . the tip on the nozzle will also be come damaged and bolge out .

Really enjoyed the video, feel confident about doing my own. Looking at your engine it looks like the 2ltr oil filler which has push on cap. 2.25 I believe had a radiator type. On no 4 injector spill pipe, does that go direct back to tank and/ or also back to filter. Many thanks

Thank you Sir! It’s an early Series 2A. It shares many parts with Series 2. Maybe that’s why a lot of part look earlier. You are correct. The return line goes to the tank and fuel filters. The fuel filters return line on the filter housing has a tiny orifice. So major of the fuel returns to the fuel tank.

Thank you Sir! They are OEM quality BritPart 247726G nozzles. A little bit more money per nozzle but I feel it’s better to a little more for the “genuine” version of parts.

Hello Cory, testing my injector but fuel comes through top of injector, any idea why, also did you say you slacken of the pressure knob before pumping. Thanks Rob

Hello Rob, come out of the top of the injector instead of popping and spraying or is it both at the same time? I actually raised the pop pressure by turning the adjuster in. One it cleared out the air and any particulars. I turned the pop pressure down to the proper specs.

@@conrad1468 Hello Cory, thanks for prompt reply and my apologies for not saying how much I enjoy your videos, very clear and concise. I bought a reconditioned injector and that pops fine at 2000. The one I took out, cleaned etc pops at about 1000 but then nothing. Trying to adjust higher, nothing diesel from top and bottom. Screwdriver head adjustment not hex. So to sum up, mist at 1000 , nothing after. Thanks Rob (UK)

@@robertpoole5305 thank you for the positive words. That’s bit of an odd spray pattern. I’m not sure why it’s acting opposite as normal. I’m guessing the cleaned nozzle might be worn. The high pressure is pushing the needle against the side and it won’t let the needle slide. The needle should spin easily and smoothly by hand when cleaning the nozzles. Low pressure let’s the nozzle vibrate easier than high pressure since the nozzle is out of spec. That’s my guess…
