I got diagnosed and haven’t worn wigs or weaves and haven’t had a relaxer/chemicals and no heat (completely natural) in over 5 years and still suffered breakage and hair loss 3 months ago. So I don’t think it has much to do with hair practices, at least not in my case.

It’s the one thing we all have in common; the food. Try an anti inflammatory diet lifestyle like carnivore. Even keto but if you can afford organic low carb veggies. I say that because when I cut out the veggies I started feeling better. The veggies have round up/pesticides which can inflame your body. Particularly the gut microbiome. Everything starts in & from the gut. Also I don’t have ccca but my hair was thinning. I started consuming collagen peptide powder (I now consume both bovine & marine) & the health of my hair has not turned back. My skin has zero wrinkles.

I also have this condition. I think our communities need to be aware of the s/s before its gets to the point of no return. There needs to be posters up in hair stores. This can be considered a public health issue because it is so rampant.Weave , wigs and extensions are so popular now, women barely take a break between styles to let their hair "breath". So if their is a scalp issue its given the opportunity to worsen. I know studies are being completed about this being genetic but I also think its our hair styling practices because those are often passed down , just like our diets. I am a nurse and I find this condition heartbreaking and fascinating at the same time. If we want to improve this we have to do this ourselves.

Would be good if some input for remedy was given, and not just the pitch ☹️

I sat there all last year diagnosed myself with CCA tried treating it naturally, but was not moisturizing properly because I have starter locs and didn’t want to use conditioner.-it went from the top of my head to the entire back of it just about. Loss locs. Thank goodness I was at least treating the inflammation or I might be bald completely there. Now I’m deep conditioning my locs and using leave in conditioner. Now my locs feel like hair and the back of my head is finally retaining length, and feel better with no soreness. All because I stopped using conditioner when I loc’d up. As soon as I ran out of the products with moisturing properties after the first 4 months of my loc journey my hair got brittle and started falling out. Took me 9 months to diagnose myself and just last month to realize I need conditioner to properly moisturize. 🙄

Unfortunately in the U.K. they are now recognising this condition, 15 -20yrs ago, it’s wasn’t common knowledge.

Hello I've had alopecia universalis since beginning of 2019. In the last year and a half... the follicles on my head are growing back to normal size. I've been using a highly magnified camera. From what I understand.. hair follicles shrink to nothing when balding or have alopecia. So is this a good sign the my hair maybe in the process of coming back since the follicles seem to be returning to normal size? Thank you.
