Was it just me or did the rifle shot sound underpowered. It didn't seem to make a sonic crack like it usually would. Maybe it was just the audio because the results made it seem the rifle barrel achieved a supersonic speed.

I believe most people that buy rimfire pistols and rifles never realized a 22 is such affective little bullet cartridge combination. The 22-high velocity short is even more overlooked yet is very efficient and effective to 25 to 50 yards. The accuracy of it; is as good as any rimfire. It was once the cartridge used in the 25-yard rapid-fire Olympics matches. It also was the choice of farmers and butchers for dispatching animals for processing. I witness this a few times. When you see a 350-pound hog drop like a rock from such a tiny cartridge is an important lesson. It shows the lethal power of firearms and the importance of gun safety.

Roger that ! I was raised on a farm during the'70s. We raised and butchered hogs and beef to keep our freezers full. I was normally the shooter and Dad was the throat cutter. I used a 22 rifle with iron sights. I used shorts and LR. Mainly shorts most of the time. I honestly couldn't tell a difference between the 2. We did alot of butchering over those years and I dropped every hog I shot with 1 round except for 1. It was a good hit, but he took 2 hits. The beef were harder to drop with 1 round. For beef, my uncle usually brought his 22 rifle too and we would both shoot. Quick, multiple hits would drop them better than just 1 usually.

Maybe it sounds corny but you know the folks that are in your same culture and can pick out the bad ones easier. Like someone from a big city area. I’d have a had time picking out the good and bad ones. Heck, it’s hard to tell when they’re being sarcastic or joking! Or even understand some of their humor! You I get! Others, not so much! The rifle did penetrate farther. Look again, bullets shot into Clear Ballistics gel has a tendency to bounce back. The rifle bullet had about another inch of wound channel in front the bullet came to rest. the pistol bullet had another quarter inch in front of it.

The cloudy blocks are actually made of pig cellulose gel and are the real F.B.I. LAB GRADE MATERIAL, although they are ugly and not as easy to see the wound channel . The clear one's are great for seeing the Details of the channel made of siliconized 10% to 20% gel . The real pig gel density is calibrated by a temperature of 38° and a bee bee gun penetration of approx 3.75" to 3.8" only then is the test Authentic accurate . Just say'n "Buckeye Ballistic" uses real pig cellulose cloudy ugly muddy looking , but it's accurate

He once told me that of all the bullet wounds he had seen and shootings he had investigated, the one that did the most unbelievable damage vs. caliber size was a .22 LR from a 6 inch barreled revolver. Solids don't perform as well as hollow point on game or pest like groundhogs, coon, possums.I've used both solids and hollows and the only time I was glad I was using solids was when I shot a great horned owl thinking it was a raccoon. He survived and was nursed back to health by a rescue that I dropped him off at.It was early morning and I felt so bad for him.I usually use hollow points but on that morning I put in a couple solids up front.I try for head shots and hit him thru the neck at about 70 yrds. and I shouldn't have taken the shot with the low light conditions.I used open sights with a white painted front sight. The owl was actually climbing a tree which I didn't know that they did so thought he was a coon. When he fell I knew by the sound he wasn't heavy enough to be a coon. That owl was huge but weighted only a couple lbs. Stick with hollow point for hunting and solids for target practice if you want clean kills.I shot squirrels thru the chest with both and the solids usually work but you're waiting for the wheezing sucker to drop out of the tree for up to 10 minutes after the hit.lol

I've had good results with Winchester powerpoint 42gr 1320fps. (from a rifle) Kind of loud and overkill though most of my varmint shots are within 30 feet. Next time I go ammo shopping I'm looking to try quiet and subsonic segmented hollowpoints. I just want a quick kill without earplugs or over penetration, so the critter doesn't run under something before dying [stink or unconfirmed kill] and I don't want to damage equipment behind plywood shed walls.
