CemCote is a pigmented, thin film cement- based decorative wall covering which is versatile and durable. It is a two coat system which produces a 1.5mm smooth decorative finish suitable for application onto new plastered walls that have been sponge, wood or steel floated, or previously painted walls. We might end up using a product by a company called Isomat because they are local to us here in Ontario Canada.So far, we’ve built the shower using Schluter’s Kerdi products. We have some videos on our KZfaq channel showing the installation. Super excited to get to this project! Right now we’re working on our front door to our Skoolie. Do you have any kind of demo on how to make that wall behind the bed that looks like concrete sections you see in construction?

Hi Scott. We don't have a demo video as of yet. However this off-shutter look can be easily created a number of ways. You can either cut the underlying plaster first, and then coat over with CemCote Skimmed (as seen here). Or finish the plaster work flat, and then use a thicker render as the final decorative coating, such as our RenoCrete, which is applied as normal, and then cut and shaped while biscuit hard, in the size and shape of your choice :)

Hi Rory :) Thank you so much!! The fiber cement board would just need to be primed before the CemCote Skimmed application, and then SiliconSeal and final sealers applied over that. As there are so many substrates one could apply this to, and there are varying systems in different countries, perhaps send us your project details and we can send you a specification. Yes you can :) There may be extra preparation products / procedures required depending on your substrate, as well as different sealer options depending on the final finish you want to achieve. We'd like to use it for a fireplace mantel - if we'd use solid concrete it would exceed the weight limit on the sub-floor - so applying this product would work better regarding total weight. However, with the underside getting hot when the fireplace is on, wondering if this product will develop cracks?

Is it the cemcote that is waterproof or only the sealer?

Hi Wyatt. There are waterproofing properties in the CemCote (for example CemCote Brushed applied to the exterior of a building will prevent water from penetrating, however water marks may be present, discolouring it), therefore we recommend sealing to add additional waterproof properties and prevent staining.

Is it microcement or skim coat? Is there any differences?

Hi Shahin. This is a micro cement. A skim coat is usually used for repairing or levelling out a surface, and can be made from various substances depending on the application :)

Hi Jerome :) Yes you can, as long as the tiles are steadfast and not prone to flaking (eg: slasto). The tiles will need to be prepared before our products can be applied, and the final finish will always rely on the integrity of the tiles and structure. If I wanted to paint a mural on the wall, at what stage would I do this?

Hi @r0nea. Once the final sealer has cured you should be able to paint over it. Just remember that solvent-based paints may affect the sealer, so rather stick to a water-based paint to be safe. We'd love to see your mural when you're done - email us at marketing@cemcrete.co.za.

These are all part of the look and feel of this type of product.
