Try and communicate to the Chief engineer or Head of Maintenance at City Hall and ask him if he will give you a tour of the basement or possibly all the way up to Billy Penn. But the basement is amazing. I delivered some pipe and fittings in the early 2000s and the historical stuff that is down there should be shown Simply Amazing.

Awesome video. Great shopping memories of "back in the day" with Strawbridge's, Gallery, etc. I haven't been to Center City in years. I remember always hitting the Bourse when down there as well and if it was nice and we wanted to go for decent walk , South Street.

Great video. You made a slight mistake, though. The home where Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence was the Graff House, not the Gratz House. I used to visit it frequently in the late 1980s. The Gratz family was an old Jewish family in Philadelphia, the most famous of whom was Rebecca who served as the inspiration for the female protagonist in "Ivanhoe".

2:52 There used to be a huge stone bas-relief of this image outside what was once Strawbridge & Clothier at the Plymouth Meeting Mall. It was removed with the recent renovation of that part of the mall. 8:50 Walking through the Fashion District is a year-round safe way of avoiding the lunatic fringe-element along Market Street, with their bullhorns. Did they put any tourist-trap stores in the F.D.? If not, what reason would a tourist have to go in there, if it's just the same stores they have in the malls back home?

More importantly, not only did TJ have an office at 8th and Market but that was also the location of Anna's hotdog cart. Best bacon and egg on a long roll in the city in my opinion. Her meatball subs and tuna sandwiches were the finest also. I think she may have retired.

They tore down the Gallery to build a slightly better version of the Gallery. I was in Center City about a year ago and checked out the Fashion District and was thoroughly unimpressed. Like you said, it has no personality whatsoever, and is entirely forgetful. I heard so much hype about it and it was just meh.

Thanks for the tour. I have not been in Center city and the mall since I retired. I remember when I was young you could enter all the center city department stores from the underground concourse. It was a major upgrade when they built the Gallery but it only did well when it was first built. As you noted they have to have good security to keep the new Fashion District nice. As others have stated most malls are not as nice in the past due to store closures and many people prefer the connivence of on line shopping. Today you need to have some unique stores or attractions to really be sucessful. It also hurts that the city has a higher sales tax than suburban locations.

the only way the malls can make a comeback is...fill them with sports bars, pubs, weed stores with lounges, adult entertainment (strip clubs), wine and spirits stores, food and ice cream shops. they would be packed bro.

I thought I saw some flemish bond in there. I'm afraid you missed the age of visiting nice malls around the country. The best were the Mills Malls, the company that brought us Frankling Mills. Each had themes upon themes just like Franklin Mills and they were throughout the country. Potomic Mills, Sawgrass Mills, Discovery Mills (named after a credit card), Ontario Mills, etc. Each were local themed. Sawgrass was awesome. It might be one of the few or only former Mills Malls that aren't dead or depressing. At least the last I saw it. There are nice malls around, but, they're still white buildings with Spencers Gifts. Practically a franchise. But you will find some in Florida with skating rinks. Those are neat.

Hey Captain - Since you brought it up, would you consider doing a tour of The Franklin Institute? I used to live in Philly when dinosaurs roamed the earth. It's been decades since I've been to the institute, as I now live on the West Coast. Just something to consider. Thanks.

Hey Philly captain I made it back to Philadelphia but we had to visit Atlantic City now we had to visit Philadelphia to check out the place that I like like where is the fashion District including SEPTA store even visiting VS Elmwood bowling even I had to visit my family and we made it back to Atlantic City and we’re gone back to the Waynesville again but I’m still working on my freedom so I can escape my mom’s making a suggestion of visiting St. Louis and West Philadelphia Emwood Avenue I finished writing interviews practice permit and Real permit test of driving but they’ll be two down but they’ll be one to go and I had to take a break of the test so I can do test in St. Louis practice driving and taking real driving test in St. Louis once I’m done with the driving test i’m gonna have to enjoy the St. Louis once the St. Louis series is over so we can get a new season and new episode of West Philadelphia elmwood Avenue.

You should have showed the AMC movie theater. Outside of it is an area where you can have drinks and eat food. It's very nice. I almost think that it is the best movie theater in Philly right now. Next to it is a huge two part game room. I did a walk thru. Security checks for ID. You have to be 21 after 11AM or be with an older adult. No kids running wild. City Winery is pretty good. During warm weather it's the outside seating area is a nice touch. It's really a shame that most of this functional mall could be demolished to make way for a NBA arena. The Sixers are tired of renting from the Flyers so they want their own place. The Sixers also figure they can rent it out for other events and make money like that. If you ask me I think that it's a real gamble. But malls across the country are struggling mostly due to online shopping. I have been up to KOP and Plymouth meeting malls and business is down at both.

Pittsburgh seems like heaven compared to Philly
@dennisandrews3216
@dennisandrews3216 6 ай бұрын
The smaller the place, usually the better it is. Since Philly's double the size and has **5 times** as many ppl, I'm not surprised. I will say tho, I've never seen a gang in my entire life until I moved to Pittsburgh and New Castle. I was reppin my Phillies shirt during the championship game in 08' at a house party. Some kid kept giving me an attitude during conversation and when I asked what the fuck his problem was, some girl leaned in an said it's cause what I was wearing. It took an hour for me to realize it had nothing to do with Phillies, it was RED. I was wearing red and they thought I was a *blood* associate LMFAO. I thought it was funny but the sea of blue t shirts, boxers hanging out and blue bandanas around me didn't. And then later that night literally a block away a kid was killed in a Blood/Crip type shooting. So to me, watching these little wiggers play *gang* like a video game was funny, but the neighbors seeing ppl die all around them didn't. And Philly seemed like heaven to me. At least here you get killed for an actual reason, not what color you wear. Don't forget, the captain and others show the bad stuff and Kensington cause it's clickable and let's be real, it's what ppl want to see. But that don't mean ALL of Philly is like that. As an ex heroin addict, Kensington is only a few blocks around. I know all them blocks well. But online they make it look like all of Philly is like that. They show the same 2 blocks with homeless encampments (outside Rainbow store, side of Allegheny station etc) because there's not that many other ones that have them. If your not directly at the corner of Kensington Ave. and Allegheny Ave. then cops will tell you that you have to keep it moving. You can walk around all you want cause it's a public street, but you can't just stop and sit or lay down. So Philly is the current hotspot to crap on in the news and etc right now. But us regular law abiding citizens would never let that stuff happen on our block or our neighborhood. I'll bet you the captain don't let that stuff happen on his block either. But the Northeast, Fishtown, South Philly etc. won't get clicks. White ppl doing the garden or sweeping their porch? Lol. Stuff def happens, but not in the same amounts as North Philly/Kensington areas. So for the future, if something looks like heaven or looks like dog crap, it's time to use them critical thinking skills and figure out if your perspective is being manipulated at all. I love the Captain and other KZfaqrs, but I watch now knowing that they can only do the stuff ppl want to see. Ya know? Just think id chime in since I personally thought Pittsburgh was hell lol. Happy New Year fellow Pennsylvanian!!! Hope you (and both our cities) have a better year!
