Most epic music for spraying brake cleaner ever

I figured out years ago while finishing guitars that a collapsible pray Tan booth it perfect for painting things like this. It blocks out the wind, and any dust and dirt being blown around and blocks direct sunlight that can really mess up your finish, while still being outside in the fresh air. When you are done, it folds up relatively small and mostly flat.

you can buy a cheap sand blasting gun at harbor freight and aluminum oxide. if you can't get a blast cabinet use a large tote and modify it. you'll get longer lasting results. I've been cerakoting sense it was released. Metal finishing for 20 years.

One tip, that I found, tape off the threads on the recivers and plug holes where you can...it can make a difference when assembling.

Looks pretty good man. Just one thing I think will help you. Always "cut" in the hard angles first then go back and do long strokes.

This is a perfect "HOW NOT TO APPLY CERAKOTE VIDEO". Cerakote has a complete series on how to properly apply their product. You can still do it at home. Watch their videos. Doing it this way it might look good but it won't durable. You might as well just rattle can it.

Get a sandblasting cabinet from harbor freight for $100. Then get a 50lb bag of 100 grit aluminum oxide from zoro for $70 shipped. That extra $170 will ensure that the cerakote will adhere for a lifetime, instead of however long this lasts. For me, it's worth the piece of mind that it won't prematurely wear down in 5 to however many years. Instead of soaking in acetone (very expensive at $20/gal), soak in simple green ($8/gal). The manufacturer lists it as an acceptable alternative.

Nice job! Anodize is perfectly fine to paint over, bare aluminum I’d chemical conversion the surface before coating but that’s just the engineer coming out in me.

3:28 Cerakote specifically states that you should not use round media such as glass beads or shot and that hand sanding is not sufficient. I'm looking at their manual right now.

it would be a great idea to do this for a battle rifle knowing your going to use the hell out of it

nice job, one future note, spray the hard to cover areas first that way if you mess it up you don't waste a bunch of paint on the easy stuff first.

Oh my.. I want to remain positive, but I'm sure we all know what it's like when we know better because we do it professionally and some guy on youtube is just leading people astray. I'm sure this guy felt he was helping others and perhaps he did. But if you can possibly follow Cerakotes preparation and application recommendations..even on the cheap.. you'll get so much more out of it. I'll say this. If you can't for whatever reason manage to follow Cerakote's preparation and application steps.. don't use Cerakote. You can get perfectly serviceable results with Durakote, Brownells Gun-Kote, or even a can of Krylon.

The way you are spraying is wasting a hell of a lot expensive Cerakote.

just a heads up to others if your spraying your upper and lower tape off all holes like the safety and mag release so you dont have to file for hours... and put the recommend mil on unless you like the wore out look.

you shoulda taped up the threads, why would you cerakote the threads?

when youre spraying its better to hit it with long continuous shots instead of short quick sprays. Will reduce the risk of splatter or getting the nozzle clogged

To be fair, Cerakote specifically says NOT to bead blast, or sand, as it won't achieve the correct surface profile for proper adhesion

Never perdormed the procedure myself but after watching Cerakotes video and yours there were appx. 10 do/dont's violated that Cerakote spoke on explicitly!!

Denatured alcohol would be a better choice for degreasing plastic. Break kleen can dissolve some plastics faster than acetone. I almost roached my Marlin 60 trigger group.

Johnny PK you bake the H series Cerekote. C-series is air dry Cerekote.

here's an idea.... if you want fde just buy your parts in fde originally instead if buying black anodized and then painting them. i could see if you wanted another odd color but fde, how unique

Hold down the button...dont stop in between spray because you can get burst of extra paint.

Some people should be aware that most brake kleen has acetone in it which would ruin plastics

What did he do for prepping? They claim you must sand blast and that’s the only right way to do it. Otherwise it won’t hold like a factory finish does

So glad I found your videos, even 7 years later. I was planning on buying an air gun but the preval sprayer seems ideal- over the years have you still been satisfied with the job the sprayer did on the rifle?

So do you have to worry about the thickness of the cerakote you spray on interfering with installing all the roll pins and lower parts kit? Or does punching pins through chip or f-up the coating at all? Nice videos man, very good. Thanks.

If it's the c series cerakote it can air dry and be good to use after 24 hours. Or so it was explained to me.

How are you not breathing that or getting it all over you or the grass and such? You can rent real spray booths usually...depending on your location. Nice vid otherwise, but that outside areas looks way too windy.

Looks like it came out good to me. I have a couple of questions though. What is the coverage like? I have a lower in the raw and an upper that is anodized, will they come out two different shades unless I blast the upper? Also, how hard was it to shoot the inside of that front rail?

I mean no offense by asking this, but doesn't the black factory finish need to be sandblasted off? I don't think you'd get the full strength of Cerakote's durability just by painting over the factory finish - A coat of paint is only as strong as its first layer, right? The polymer parts I'm sure will hold/bond with the Cerakote well.

How was assembly ? Any trouble w actions? Mag release sticks on mine hoping it loosens up w time. I’m confident caused by cerekote being too thick. Did one cost as instructed.

Don't ever use brakes parts cleaner. Leaves a residue.
