may be too late 67beaumont67, but metal substrates should see 250F.. 160-180 may not be enough temp to kick the catalyst. If you already did it at the lower temp, you will probably not see a difference. However in the long term, durability may not be as good. Another point I would change from the video, is using a high pressure air gun to blow all of the blasting media from the pieces after blasting, then clean the parts again. the video suggests blowing with the HVLP gun at much lower air pressure,just prior to applying the coating. Also when cleaning the gun, I suggest flushing twice with MEK,,and use it to wipe all of the surfaces clean. Then remove the fluid tip and soak it inside the cup with clean MEK, put the top on and leave it. I am not a fan of solvent cleaning,because of the disposal costs as well as the evaporation rates My process uses a 7 stage zinc phosphate pretreatment, which can replace all blasting of steel parts. The final stage is a hot rinse/sealer,, which stops all oxidation. Aluminum is cleaned,then blasted,as are plastic substrates.

So Cerakote Eilte is unsuitable for temperature sensitive parts given that all parts have to be cured at 300 deg ?
@Cerakote
@Cerakote 7 жыл бұрын
You CAN cure Elite at a lower temperature for heat sensitive parts, however, you will not get the full Elite benefits (the extreme abrasion & corrosion protection and hardness) when it is not cured at 300*F for 1 hour. Thank you!

Using Cerakote H, I followed prep instructions to the T. While spraying with my series 80 Iwata my coating didn't look wet. I was 3-5 in away with 2-3 in fan with pressure at 22psi at gun handle. So I went back over the first coat within one to two minutes and then stuck it in the oven at 300 F. I went to the store for a couple of hours and came back and the coating had blistered. Did I leave it in the oven too long? Did I spray it wrong? BTW - This was my first time at using Cerakote. :)
@Cerakote
@Cerakote 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, sounds like it was in the oven too long. At 300*F it should only be in the oven for one hour, 250*F for 2 hours.

To get the best results from Cerakote, you would want to fully cure the metal parts at 300*F for an hour, and the polymer parts separately for 2 hours at 150-180*F.

I purchased a raw (already blasted) F1 Firearms build set. They said it was "cerakote ready". I assume I can just soak in acetone for the recommended time then gas out (as long as no oils are present) cool down then spray. Right on? Instead of soak*blast*gas out*spray
@Cerakote

Correct, if it's a blasted, raw metal part then you just need to degrease and gas out prior to spraying.

@11:08 is is mentioned about using a spray gun with a metal cup. Is this important across the whole line of cerakote and what adverse effects can be seen by using a plastic cup ?

@gunhappyie
@gunhappyie 7 жыл бұрын
Cerakote how does that work so if your applying cerakote to plastics ?
@Cerakote

You can apply it to plastics just fine since it is cured shortly thereafter, it's just that if it sits for awhile in a plastic container it could begin to react with the plastic inside the container.

Hey, I've been doing Cerakote for about a year now. I just recently started doing white (Bright white). But whenever I spray, it almost looks like milk, and runs extremely badly! It looks thin or something. I soaked my spray gun in acetone and cleaned thoroughly. I have tried many different things, just wondering if someone would have an answer for me!
@Cerakote
@Cerakote 6 жыл бұрын
You'll want to make sure the bottle is very well shaken, at least 5-10 minutes of solid shaking. We recommend a paint shaker to get the best possible results. If it continues to be thin after a solid 10 minutes of shaking, let us know and we'll investigate the lot number. Thank you!

An old model builder's trick (Hollywood, special effects pro) is to put a few bbs in a bottle of paint. It works great. I started dropping bbs in all my OLD lacquered based paints, and they are still holding up, 20-25 years later. Another cheap trick is to tape the jar to the blade of a Sawzall reciprocating saw and using the saw to shake the paint. WATCH THE TAPE, as the saw loves to cut through the tape. If it starts cutting the tape, add more tape, and keep shaking.
