Serviced my BB a few times using the procedure and very happy about the video -- I can get the BB as smooth as when I first bought it. One thing I'd like to point out is that, for a while, I thought I could deviate from the steps mentioned in any way -- but it doesn't seem to be the case. The only way to clean the BB is to use compressed air to blow out the grime ingress into the BB. Since I live rather small I ended up buying a tubeless inflation tank (I bought the Schwalbe one) with an air gun attached. I think the essence of the procedure is that you don't want to stick anything in there, and only want to use (sterile) fluid and air to avoid damaging the insides. Like I also mentioned to CeramicSpeed, a thing I'm missing in the story is the availability of spare BB seals (*only). If you want the spare seals, you're forced to buy the maintenance kit. The kit contains loads of extra stuff that I don't need, which I'm actually kind of bummed out about. For one it's not the sustainable choice, and for another a big source of drag are the seals and the dust covers. The dust covers are very rigid and aren't a big problem, but the seals get bent like crazy. And even if I don't bend them (rarely the case), I end up pinching them a bit because the seal is very tight, as it should be of course. So all in all, it seems that CeramicSpeed goes to incredible lengths to produce phenomenal products with solutions to everything, and many ways to tune it to your liking. But then a part of the maintenance (and drag!) isn't taken care of properly unless you're willing to throw stuff in the bin.

Super cool that you show how to do this, most BB manufacturers say not to remove the seals so good to know that is BS

Hello Ceramicspeed, i have your BB non coated in my supersix evo, it only 2 months old and now its creaking and cracking a lot, for less than 200km, i removed the crank, and i can feel the bearing is not so smooth with my finger. Is this normal for just a few clean ride? And how to open the cover to service it? The crank is sram force axs dub 12 speed. Thanks.

Actually, how long does ceramic bearing last? For the BB and the wheelset bearing(nsw 454)?

I purchased coated CeramicSpeed BB on my Cervelo Caledonia 5, it's been little bit over a year since i bought and it's been to the bike shop 3 times for service and overhaul due to a creaking sound. I am very dissatisfied after paying $600 for a BB, and all it gave me is a frustration.

How do you remove the dust covers on the Colnago BB? The covers go across the face and inside the bearing. There is nothing on your site that says how to do this, you do show how to do it on the flat type (old Version) but not the new improved version that you mention.

Hi Nick, the integrated dust covers pull straight out. This has been used on 24mm BB's for years, and now incorporated on DUB systems as well. Generally, you can use your thumb on the inside edge to pull out, working your way around in small movements to prevent significant jamming/wedging.

When I do this the crank spins freely until I put the dust covers back on; at that point they (plus the grease) are causing a significant amount of resistance as they rotate with the crank. I can barely get one free revolution out of them. Am I missing something?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, it sounds like you may have a damaged dust cover. You can isolate this by pressing on each dust cover individually (without the crank installed) and feel if there is friction or drag occuring. Also, setting up the crank with and without dustcovers will result in a different lateral spacing and potential preload. With dustcovers, you will use less preload adjustment and/or fewer spacers than assembling without the dustcovers (which you should not do). In order to eliminate the drag, you must identify precisely where the drag is coming from.

Can i use "finish line ceramic grease" for greasing my cs bb bearing? Is the recommended fill rate is still 60%?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
Hi hanif, we would suggest using one of our three CeramicSpeed grease options. We have done extensive testing and development, including have the largest knowledge base of how our greases perform in different climates. We include the grease with our products and it is available from our webshop for additional needs as well.

Will I feel less resistance when pedaling and will I go faster? If yes to both, sign me up. If not, Hambini wins. What’s the deal?

How often would you recommend doing this ?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, weather & riding conditions can play a factor, but we suggest between 5.000-10.000km for clean/dry road conditions, or 3.000-5.000km for wet riding conditions, or off-road/gravel use.

i have a ceramicspeed coated bsa 68 shimano bottom bracket. i have no idea how to get to the bearings. there is a plastic cover around the whole thing that is hard to remove. any advice?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, that plastic cover is the dust cover and it pulls straight out. This can often be done by using your thumb and pulling slightly and then working your way around as it is designed to be a tight fit.

Can you use something like Muc Off cleaner or similar cleaner/degreaser?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
There will be many degreasers that work with varying levels of efficiency. Our preferred method is isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol , or rubbing alcohol) as it will not leave a film inside the bearings and will evaporate fully dry, ideal for application of fresh grease.

@@CeramicSpeed hi..any recommended percentage of isopropul alcohol 70/90/100% to be use?
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
@khairul annuar A Hamid, a specific ratio is not critical for this application. A higher purity solution (less water) will evaporate quicker, but there has not been evidence to show reduced effectiveness with Rubbing Alcohol (around 70% isopropanol) which can be easily found when travelling for events and such.

Hi Ceramicspeed, two questions. (1) Is there a specific reason you omit in your explanation the possibility of using TT grease in the bottom bracket? (2) Where can I buy replacement bearing seals for all your products? This includes the jockey wheels? I prefer to have a replacement seal ready in the unfortunate event one of the seals gets bent (did not happen so far, but I like to be on the safe side!).
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tobias, you are fully welcome to use our TT grease for BB bearings, but you must keep in mind there is zero protection provided by the TT grease, only lubrication. This means maintenance is much more critical and necessary more often (normal outdoor conditions 800-1000km MAX). Generally, riders with full time mechanical support use this for key events, and our Blue All Round grease for training and general use. We have bottom bracket support service kits available on our webshop, with seals included. You may write us directly in the event you with to get pulley seals. cycling@ceramicspeed.com

Is this the same process for the T45 bb. I can’t see how you remove the seals
@CeramicSpeed
@CeramicSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, once the dust covers are removed, the process for removing the seals and performing the service are the same across all BB models. Depending on which T45 model you have, you may need to remove the integrated dust cover (black plastic over the bearing face + inside the bearing opening) to access the face of the bearing to be able to remove the seals. The seals will either be black or orange, but the races will always be silver.

CeramicSpeed I see, the integrated dust seal isn’t mentioned, for the T45 do I need to remove the supports first?
