Hi! Idahoan here. The firing squad method is there for if lethal injection can’t be carried out within a few days (5 I think) of the death warrant being issued. . Usually due to supply issues. The law was recently passed so that’s why it’s never been used here.

Thank you for that information! My country doesn't have the death penalty anymore and it's crazy to me to hear in 2024 the firing squad is still used Lils not in a negative way but when I hear firing squad I think pre 1960s not 2024 😅

Yes, the firing squad has been re-introduced recently, solely due to the shortage of lethal injections. Apparently drug companies do not want to be associated with lethal injections, so they have intentionally made the concoction scarce.

I have a family member who tried starting a cult, and was only unsuccessful because he has a very short temper and quick to cut people off. any true crime case involving cults hits close to home for me. especially this one. I was 14 when he started getting a following, and in his home every day for homeschooling while my parents worked, and famously did not get along with him. scary to think how much danger I could have been in if things were different

Back in the day I was opposed to the death penalty. However after having a cousin murdered by her abusive husband and watching true crime docs I'm now an ardent supporter. Even so I hate giving the government that type of power. Yet some people are beyond repair and are completely unremorseful for evil crimes they committed. In our current world too many people care more about the rights of criminals than victims.
@FigmentForever
@FigmentForever Ай бұрын
@@macebluemoon369 I’m all for it from an economic standpoint. Between the prison industrial complex - especially private prisons, too much money is being wasted on these people, while so little is being invested in helping the poor and others who desperately need food/housing/healthcare. If they admit to being guilty or the evidence overwhelmingly points that they are guilty, there is no reason to keep them around & give them any benefit. I’m not religious either so I don’t care what any doctrine has to say about what is right or wrong regarding their punishment.

I'm againt the death penalty 99% of the time, and especially so with the fucked up kind of government we have. But, for some folks, I really just don't think they can be rehabilitated, and as a society we shouldn't bother trying. Dudes like daybell, and others like him shouldn't be left around to potentially do even more harm than they already have, even in prison.
@wilesnailspower9781

I’m only for it for specific cases like this where it’s been proven without a shadow of a doubt that they did it, and there’s no path for rehabilitation. Sitting in prison for life literally does nothing for these types of people because they feel no remorse or guilt, they only care that they were caught. Same sentiment goes for Vallow but DP wasn’t on the table for her.

The reason they have firing squad as an option is that most of the world refuses to export the drugs used for lethal injection to the USA. The EU produces the drugs but won’t let them go anywhere they might be used for execution. I believe that they only use firing squads if the condemned specifically requests it. I read a lot about this when the EU courts passed the ruling restricting the export of certain drugs to the USA. I believe India did something similar and they have struggled to find an alternative drug method that works and won’t be restricted.

Jury did the world a service. 👏 I followed this case closely watching it almost everyday. What he did was beyond evil and whole families were fractured due to his actions and the communities ( including my hometown community where hes originally from) he was apart of are deeply effected. The victim impact statements were heartbreaking. Im so happy theres going to be justice. Edit: also Laura of Hidden True Crime did some interviews with members of Tammys family including Tammys aunt Vicki that were great, and Nate Eaton of East Idaho News did fantastic interviews with tje jurors and what had been going through their head.

Tylee and I were the same age at the time and I prayed many times that they would be okay, even though I knew deep down that they probably weren’t- based on how Lori and Chad were acting. Chad getting the DP is the satisfactory ending that we needed. I just hope it’s not overturned, and that the prosecution was more cautious about Lori’s trial, it’s their fault she doesn’t have the DP, but life in prison is still nice.

The state should not have enough power to end people's lives, even if they're convicted murderers. It sets a dangerous precedent, especially in today's age where women are being criminalized for having abortions. It's not a far reach for pro-life lawmakers to add abortion to the list of "murderous" crimes punishable by death.

generally speaking, i’m not in favor of the death penalty, BUT, there are just some people that truly are not going to be rehabitable; and they’ve committed horrible crimes multiple times? then fire away. with cases that aren’t so clear cut, obviously there’s nuance there; but when they’re as guilty to rights, as chad and lori, they aren’t worth the tax dollars.

Tylee had a pension from her father (military? Not sure I can’t remember right now) and got monthly deposits. Her mom was regularly taking that money to pay bills and such even though it wasn’t meant for that. It was meant for Tylee and her future. So yeah money was involved. But also? They only killed the minor children that they HAD to care for. Chads grown kids weren’t murdered. They weren’t “dark” because they weren’t sapping time and resources from the couple. So the death by firing squad bill was signed into law last year, I believe. The reason was bc there was a shortage of lethal injection medication at the time- I only remember this bc of the Brian Kohberger (Idaho 4) case. I think the victims families should be able to choose which method of execution he is given. And I know it is going to sound evil- but if it were me choosing, I would go for whichever one would cause the most pain or trauma, and go with that!!! Ugh, poor, sweet little JJ & beautiful Tylee- they didn’t deserve any of this. 💔

This case has affected me in ways i still don't understand. I love true crime and have seen the worst of the worst but this case has kept me up at night with tears. When i first saw Jj and tylees photo on the tv I thought for a second it was my now 12 year old son. Jj would also be 12 this past May 25th, also the same birthday as my 3 year old. I don't know if was that or something else or many things, but I never go a day without them in my thoughts and the unfortunate record playing of guessing what was going through their minds in the last moments. When Jj couldn't understand why his mom was hurting him. He was in his pajamas and probably feeling safe and happy. Maybe he was half asleep and woke up some time in the night and she thought it would be easier. Well it wasn't. He struggled. He fought and I truly believe Chad was the one who helped her when she realized it wasn't as easy as she thought it would be. I don't know, but I play it over and over. When i decided to go down this rabbit hole I found Jjs Aunt Kresha and began following her on youtube. She felt like she could be an old friend. Just normal people. I wrote her a letter and watched all her videos. Home videos of the kids. Watched everything I knew would make it hurt worse, because I kept hearing " don't turn away, don't you dare look away". This case changed me as a person and mother. Its made me more loving and affectionate when I normally would not be. Its made me go climb in my oldest sons bed and silently cry and while holding him because that's how im going to honor these sweet angels. Im going to make sure my kids know I love them all the time even when I'm upset or disappointed. I'm more patient and I take extra care to think about what I say and do. I think that's how I can remember them the best way. To be better, and love more even if it feels too soft or vulnerable. When i say goodbye on the phone I make sure to say I love you to everyone, friends and family. Even in a rush. . If I had it my way Lori, and Chad would sit on death row until they were obviously miserable and then they would be put on a stake and I would set them alight. In a way to make sure I could hear them cry out in terror for their mother or delusional beliefs before they were gone. I would have Alexs remains dug up and paraded and defiled in whatever way the people felt best. I think that would still too good for them. They would be reduced to fragments and tossed in the trash, after I took a giant **** on whatever remained. Or maybe the same way those sweet babies went. I don't even like to kill bugs I find in my house but my heart is angry and I want them to suffer. My pain is still so little compared to the people who knew them and so I don't know how they get out of bed if a stranger like me can be so affected. I wish I knew about Tylee the same but that's a whole other conversation when it comes to who really cared for her. She looks like my niece and would be only a year older and her relationship and closeness with my son, is scarily identical to Tylee and Jj. The maturnal soul , and bond together just the same. Maybe that's why I feel like this. Sometimes I feel silly but i learned people, strangers can actually be affected with trauma from second hand exposure. Idk how or why. Maybe because i always felt like i was an " empath" and spent too much time feeling feelings that felt like someone else's. I've only told one person about all of this. I felt silly and selfish and maybe I sound like this is all about me. But i can only feel my own feelings. And sitting mostly alone with this is so lonely. I know im not alone though and so many feel the same. I really hate long comments but I needed to get this out. I could really go on all day if I could. I know Charles knew and he tried to do something and was obviously done away with. At the end JJ knew charles was gone, Lori had sold his dog atleast a week or so before and he had not seen his beloved sister in probably more time than ever before. She had stopped his meds and his grandparents had an idea he was miserable. She went from the most threat to the smallest. He was alone for some time and maybe he was scared. I hope they burn in hell or whatever finds them in the end. I hope its terrifying, they cry out and it never ends....I wont forget you Tylee, Jj and Charles. The world will mourn you, but remember and love you forever ❤

I feel like to have 12 people agree on anything, especially something so controversial as giving someone the death penalty is insane and very telling of the evidence they had against Daybell. I'm with a majority of the other comments, saying most of the time, I'm not for the death penalty. But some people are just beyond help. I believe Daybell is one of those people. But half the time it doesn't mean 'death' it means 'death row' the argument could be made that prisoners on death row don't know if/when they will be put to death and the stress of that is the punishment but to me, for truly horrendous, heinous crimes, that isn't good enough.

Surely whether they use the firing squad or injection is up to the convicted? I don't think there's a category of crime that would use a firing squad over an injection. The reason it's never been used is because it's probably never been requested by the person. I may be wrong though.

I do remember that there was a case awhile back here in Utah where a criminal did choose firing squad over lethal injection. Firing squad here isn’t normally used here, even though it’s legal, and is generally reserved in the event lethal injection doesn’t work. He’s very been adamant about it too, they’re trying to do it via lethal injection but he insists on the firing squad, very odd case.
