here's an idea drill a hole through the tensioner and the frame and get alittle rod and stick it in there like a pin
@Brian1367 жыл бұрын
yes this would work but instead of a little rod i would use a 1/4 inch bolt and nut with a lock nut or kotter pin to keep it locked") thaks Tyler this is a very good fix you have come up with")

The bolt through the frame only works good...if the frame runs parallel with the wheel..which most frames dont..so doing this will only help keep the chain tensioner from rounding off the frame and going into the spokes..still gonna have alignment problems and have chain jumping off tensioner..
@michaelmarshall23563 жыл бұрын
I agree with Paul and Tyler, shorten the chain a little and then drill two small holes under each bolt all the way through and install some dowel pins. Did both of my bikes like that and had no more problems since then. And my bikes are about seven and eight years old.

It looks like someone install your chain sprocket upside down. The dull side of the sprocket should face outwards so it will throw the chain a little out and it will prevent so many aligning problems!

I have seen some guys who have eliminated the chain tensioner on their bikes completely and swear that doing such eliminates issues and is much, much safer than any tensioner set up on the market. Their videos seem to show that they are indeed doing as they said and have no real issues with that method. I have thought about drilling a hole in the tensioner plates and frame and then shooting a pop rivet into it so it can't move at all. Not sure that it would work or if the frame area would be wide enough to accept a pop rivet or not. A small screw could be used instead of the pop rivet though. I have thought of doing this same thing to the mounts of my gas tank so it does not rock on the bike frame when mounted and I don't pull the studs too tight to cause any leakage of the tank.
@Brian1364 жыл бұрын
yes this works but puts way more ware on the chain and the drive gear at the engine. shortening chain life and check this out bro you snap one of these motorcycle chains at 35mph you might be riding a hospital bed for a minute. remember the only thing between you and that chain is the flimsy chineseium chain guard it's not like a motorcycle where the chain is buried inside the frame. catastrophic failure on one of these bikes is serious just about everyone who has been riding one for more that 2 weeks has a scary story to tell you. but ya it works...

Im still thanking him as my legs would be crushed.. Listen carefully..the spring makes the chain bounce just a tad at the bottom and at the moment of start up the sprocket throws the chain forward into that moon shape bend inside the casing where the screw is located..So at just the right moment the bastard WILL jam and lock up. I hope this does not happen to no one I am just sharing mu experience to any who wants to read it . I shortened the chain and got rid of the tensioner all together because I could not ride happy anymore I was scared to death it would happen again please be carefull take care and peace

Other people mentioned it but I have three bikes and never have any issues with the chain moving. Drill a hole between the 4 bolts right into the frame of the bike, all the way through or just the first layer. Find a screw that will fit snug and pop it in.
@Brian1366 жыл бұрын
yes this will work over time though if you only go half way but the torque of the little engine coupled with the weakness of the chain stay will crack the frame while riding and that my friend is very dangerous!!! sure you have had 3 bikes and no issues so far but i would imagine you don't ride as hard s some of these guys hammering on the little engine as hard as they can trying to get 40mph out of it because some fool said that he did on a stock bike??? the real answer for this issue is just to install any of a number of after market chain tensioner that range in price from $30 -- $75 depending on what you want or the set-up you got. i wouldn't recomend drilling any holes in a cheap Chinese bike frame unless you gonna put a steel insert like a bottle bolster or something like that bro this is a bad mix right here and just because the fake assed chinese tensioner is bloted on around the hoel doesn't mean it won't fail... thanks for watching")

brian noel, If you try to shorten the chain to run without a pulley and you find out your chain is just a little too short, put some master links on the chain. 2 or 3 is good. Then run your modified chain with the pulley under heavy load. Up a hill or at full speed for a few miles. This will stretch the chain out a bit so you can remove the master links and have a perfect fit for running without a pulley.

This type of chain tensioner has many flaws..first of all, it's made of a plastic..plastic is weaker then metal..so therefore, with wear and tear..the tensioner wheel will eventually wear down...second, the bracket is flat and lines parallel with the frame, not the wheel which contains the rear sprocket...which causes the chain to rub on the inter wall of the plastic wheel forcing the wheel to want to realign itself, which often losses the bracket enough to pull the chain tensioner wheel into the wheel spokes..and ruins the wheel and normally causes a bad day..third is the bracket itself..the way the bracket is bolted together with a round piece of metal squeezing the round typical mountain bike frame, which increases the rate for the chain tensioner bracket to move even easier.. The solution is to junk the tensioner, and play it old school..by shorting the chain and remove the not needed chain links..and slide the rear wheel backwards to tighten the tension..buy a spring tensioner that attaches to the clutch cover that comes with a small sprocket instead of the plastic wheel....
