Mary, I LOVE your channel! You are so calm in a world of chaos and I look forward to making my way through all of your videos! You have really helped me on my sourdough journey and I think today may be THE DAY I make an edible loaf of bread! Thank you for your presence here on YT and I am really excited about watching your Biblical eating journey (which I may dive into myself) I have seen several of your videos and am usually unable to comment because you're on my TV, but today I had to stop and go to my computer to let you know how appreciative I am for what you share and your kindness that flows into my kitchen! 🥰

I'm so sorry for your turkey and chicken situation. That is so sad and disappointing. When things go not as planned, I get on my knees and thank the good Lord for his wisdom trusting his plan not ours. And I take the opportunity to thank him for always seeing us through. God is so good.

I have to make many changes and face a lot of disappointments over the years. I hit them head on by going double-time into what I have in front of me.

Oh that's so sad, it's hard when you have to make those kind of decisions. It wasn't a Turkey or chicken but a beloved pet down, a couple winters ago - it still gets to me sometimes, but for me, I just let myself cry, and God who is my Father always comforts me - he doesn't stop the tears, but He holds me tightly.

May The Lord comfort and encourage you in the loss of your turkey and the chicken eggs, may The Lord provide the meat you lost. You have displayed how to work through disappointments by keeping your hands busy, as the Proverbs 31 woman is described in the Bible. I appreciate you sharing your rec😢for that delicious granola!! Blessings on you and your husband 🙏🏼✝️

The best breed I have ever found is Dorking. I like the colored Dorkings, their feathers help them be more camouflaged. They have proven to be the best broody hens, very healthy and tolerant of all weather, quiet, alert and if they aren't broody, they lay a nice white egg nearly every day! My oldest Dorkings is about9years old and this is the first year she hasn't gone broody yet. Last year she hatched two clutches of chicks! Speckled Sussex is another good broody breed. There is a place called Sand hill Preservation that has really nice chicks. He has actually bred the Dorkings and Sussex to create a new breed. I haven't tried them yet.

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about your turkey. It's not always easy to farm, is it? I am like you, I go to the kitchen or I sew. It helps me sort through my thoughts and feelings and pray. I tell the sisters it's cheaper than therapy! I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!

I am sorry to hear about the turkey situation. I find I just need to allow myself a little time to mourn when disappointment/unexpected happens. God is always good. I am going to have to try your sourdough granola recipe. I add a variety of nuts and a seeds to mine. Sourdough would be another boost of nutrition.

Miget White turkeys are a small heritage breed that I'm going with next year. Our order was canceled by unforseen circumstances from Mcmurray hatchery. They are a smaller foot print and do go broody and will raise their young.

Sorry to hear of your turkey and the hatching situation, Mary. I usually need a little time alone, either in my garden or in my kitchen, like you. Things have a way of getting straight if I just take my mind off it and, like you, do something that is involving. Thinking of you.🌻

This was very coincidental for me tonight. I was giving a surprise party for someone this evening and the guest of honor didn’t show up!! I called him to see where he was……..I had told him that we were getting together to talk about gardening. I volunteer/garden along with others on a Farm connected to our Church. He misunderstood the message and just didn’t come. We had pizza, cake and 2 trees in memory of his Dad and no Dennis😊we all decided that things happen for a reason and God has ways that we are not always aware of and really don’t need to be - we just need to trust that He is in charge and that He probably has another, better plan than us. All is well. Thank you for this video. Just on time!!

Can you post the recipe for those kamut biscuits? Please?? ❤
@TheRoseHomestead
@TheRoseHomestead 17 күн бұрын
2 cups kamut flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1/4 cup olive oil and 3/4 cup milk. I mix the flour, salt, and baking soda. Then I drizzle the oil and mix until crumbly. I add the milk and mix until just combine. Roll out on a floured surface and fold it on itself a few times rolling it out each time before folding it. Cut out the biscuits with a biscuit cutter or mason jar lid. Bake at 425 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

So, let me see if I understand you correctly. You have been sad for days because you had to kill and eat a turkey that you raised to produce turkeys that you kill and eat. That's mind-boggling. You couldn't let her live her days out in peace because she didn't produce more turkeys for you to kill and eat. 🤔
@TheRoseHomestead
@TheRoseHomestead 17 күн бұрын
Not at all the way I looked at it. She was killing herself. She hadn't eaten in days and would not leave the coop. She had become frail. On a homestead, yes, it is about food production. We don't keep any of our animals as pets. But, if she had been eating and doing the things to thrive, then we would have kept her to see if she would go broody again in the fall. It is so much more complicated than you would think.

You're a special kind of rude. Obviously, you don't farm to eat what you farm, and you Obviously don't know Mary. It's ok for you to comment, but then comment again to say she doesn't need to respond again. @@Dulcy-Doll2736

Are you so far removed from the circle of life that you don't understand the care, concern and compassion that folks have for the animals they raise? It's always hard when you have to harvest an animal, but that has been the natural way of life for thousands of years. Please think before you speak words meant to hurt anyone. I think the new slogan is "be kind". That should apply to everyone, even those that live a different lifestyle, correct?
