E.B. White's strange book is given the bland treatment and a...Shyamalan script? Nostalgia Critic gives his thoughts on the 1999 hit Stuart Little.
Support this week's charity - www.mission22.com
Stuart Little is a 1999 American family comedy film loosely based on the novel of the same name by E. B. White. Directed by Rob Minkoff in his live action debut, the screenplay was written by M. Night Shyamalan and Greg Brooker, and stars Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie, and Jonathan Lipnicki, alongside the voices of Michael J. Fox and Nathan Lane.

This movie just had such a magical vibe to it. It's in it's own little world where talking mice who wear clothes and drive RC cars are just a normal thing in that universe, I love it. Plus Stuart himself is genuinely adorable and hasn't aged that badly considering how early the CGI was. It was one of those movies young me had on loop and would drive my parents nuts, lol.
@torstenscholz6243
@torstenscholz6243 9 ай бұрын
It's one of those films that work if you're able to make suspension of disbelief. The premise is of course nonsense, but if you accept that, it's a quite charming, decent film with some funny and some touching scenes. And the CGI effects really look quite impressive and have aged well for 1999 standard. Except for the mouths of the talking cats maybe, they look a bit awkward now and remind one of The Annoying Orange. 🤣🤣

I knew someone named Stuart around the time this movie came out. He was a teenager, about 13 or 14, and he was a late bloomer, which means he was tragically short for his age. He hit his growth spurt eventually and as of last time I saw him, he had reached a perfectly average height for a guy, but I sometimes wonder if he reacts to this movie the way the NC reacts to the show Doug.

Ah, yes. Stuart Little: The movie that taught me at a young age that some movies barely follow the books at all. I already knew they were never exactly the same, but Stuart Little showed me just how different they could be. I read a little bit of the book before seeing the movie and actually asked my mom if Stuart Little was really a mouse or just a person who looked like a mouse. She just stared at me like I was an idiot. I guess she never read the book. LOL. Anyways, 90’s movies have always been weird to me. I was born in 1999, so I don’t even remember the small amount of the decade that I was alive for. It’s surreal to me me when I see a time period that’s so much like modern times- yet something seems just a little bit different.

@Neyonius

@@mayaklast6334 1 month of meals for the average person far exceeds $80/month unless you're eating garbage food for every meal. You also need to include their profit margin of about 10-20% on each month. It's not exorbitant so long as you consider the cost/effort ratio.

I'm gonna have to disagree hard. As a kid, the book sucked me into its nonsense and I found myself very strongly caring for the titular character and really enjoying the story as I read it. The ending had a profound effect on little me and largely contributed to my love for ambiguous/tragic endings. I was young when I read it, but old enough to appreciate the ending. It made me feel bad in a way I hadn't before - it was a sort of nostalgia for things lost it instilled in me. Before today I admittedly only remembered the ending. I even forgot what book this was until this review, where a had a slight Proust's madelein moment - I remembered the ending and specifically the feelings it instilled in me (and that it was about a mouse, I just forgot which mouse book). I remember more of it now after his recap. May I ask why you guys like the movie more (which I had seen but had no effect on me at all)? Do you like bland, annoyingly-whimsical, stupidly happy movies?

@@NJ-zf1fe I like stories that have an actual ending instead of the stupid bullshit of "did he die, did he find the love of his life? what happened you ask, we'll never tell because we suck at writing and couldn't come up with actual ending so just submitted what we had and it got approved." its the equivilant of EA or Ubisoft locking the ending of a game behind paid DLC that you have to buy on top of the already $60 game. ambigious ending fucking suck
