Stuff I (probably) stole from Wikipedia:
The fictional character Spider-Man, a comic book superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and featured in Marvel Comics publications, has currently appeared in ten live-action films since his inception, not including fan made shorts and guest appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Spider-Man is the alter-ego of Peter Parker, a talented young freelance photographer and aspiring scientist imbued with superhuman abilities after being bitten by a radioactive/genetically-altered spider.
The first live-action film based on Spider-Man was the unauthorized short Spider-Man by Donald F. Glut in 1969. This was followed by Spider-Man, an American made-for-television film that premiered on the CBS network in 1977. It starred Nicholas Hammond and was intended as a backdoor pilot for what became a weekly episodic TV series.
The rights to further films featuring the character were purchased in 1985, and moved through various production companies and studios before being secured by Sony Pictures Entertainment (Columbia Pictures) for $10 million (plus 5% of any movies' gross revenue and half the revenue from consumer products),[1] who hired Sam Raimi to direct Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007) starring Tobey Maguire. The first two films were met with positive reviews from critics, while the third film received a more mixed response.
In 2010, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted. Marc Webb was hired to direct, with Andrew Garfield starring, and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) was released to positive reviews. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) saw mixed reviews.
In February 2015, Disney, Marvel Studios and Sony announced a deal to share the Spider-Man film rights, leading to a new iteration of Spider-Man being introduced and integrated into the MCU. The deal allows Sony to distribute and have final creative control over MCU films where Spider-Man is the main character, while Disney distributes the ones where he is not. Tom Holland portrays this younger version of Spider-Man, appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), as well as the sequel to Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). All of Spider-Man's MCU appearances have received positive reviews thus far.
Plans for an animated Spider-Man film were officially announced by Sony in April 2015. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) combines Sony Pictures Imageworks' computer animation pipeline with traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques, inspired by the work of Miles Morales's co-creator Sara Pichelli. Completing the animation required up to 140 animators, the largest crew ever used by Sony Pictures Animation for a film. Into the Spider-Verse received universal acclaim, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and becoming the highest-rated film in the Spider-Man franchise, surpassing Spider-Man 2.
Raimi's trilogy grossed $2.5 billion worldwide on a $597 million budget, while Webb's films grossed over $1.4 billion on a $480 million budget. Spider-Man's MCU films (Homecoming and Far From Home) have grossed over $1.9 billion on a $335 million budget and Into the Spider-Verse grossed $375 million on a $90 million budget. The Spider-Man films have grossed over $6.3 billion collectively at the global box office. This includes Far From Home, which became the first film to gross over $1 billion worldwide as well as Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film ever.

I feel like this is almost the extreme opposite of the mcu Spider-Man. That’s why I love it. Because it contrasts with the other Spider-Man entries. So whenever I watch the MCU Spider-Man, I really get a different experience than the others. All of them are unique and represent a different side of Spider-Man’s character. Well except the raimi trilogy. That’s just pure Spider-Man.

I think what could’ve helped was having the Lizard just be a monster. Have Dr. Connors just want to hold his son. Having the Lizard just be a monster with no personality would’ve worked better as a motivation for Peter to bring him back before it’s too late for him to come back. Lizard shouldn’t have had the plot to turn everyone into lizards

Interesting fact : While I understant the people's criticism with Peter development in this movie. The fact that Uncle Ben is not the main point that makes him into a hero and it takes while for Peter to become Spiderman, is actually kind accurately to the original comics. If look Spidey first comic (after his origin in amazing fantasy) he doesn't actually start going out saving people in the first number, even after Uncle Ben's death. Instead he tries to continue working in TV show as Spider man. The problem is that his show is cancel by Jameson and his campaing against Spider man. He tries to fix things by saving John Jameson's life, Jonah Jameson's son, but doesn't work, he then tries to joins the Fantastic Four, but it also fails and his attempt is what calls the chameleon attention, making him decide to frame Spider man for his crimes. Only in issue 2 that Peter decides to become a hero, after seem that he could sell the photos of his heroic actions to the daily bugle and gain money to help Aunt May. From this point, he slowly start to embrace his role as super hero.

I personally think TASM is the most comic accurate Spider-Man movie. One of the main reasons is because he IS still selfish even when he becomes Spider-Man. In the original comics, this was the case, too! People often say Peter doesn’t act like Peter in this movie but that just isn’t true. In the comics it takes a few issues for Spider-Man to stop being completely selfish, even after he dons the suit.

What I liked most about The Amazing Spider-Man was Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I felt he would have been a perfect college or adult Spider-Man and that he truly understood the character. You can see how passionate he was about the character and it's a little heartbreaking to see the way he was treated. He's a great actor but was just put in films with bad scripts that had too much interference. I love the Raimi movies to death, but ai personally was not a fan of Tobey Maguire's performance. Every time I rewatch it, I find myself being less and less interested in his take on the role. However, I can see why people like him and have no hatred towards him or the films. I even enjoy the third

In regards to the villain, I actually wish Electro and the Lizard were switched around. Electro could've worked for an origin film as a classmate of Peter's who goes through the same thing Peter did. He was bullied, he is losing his only family figure, and can't find his own identity. However, Max is also the opposite of Peter. While Peter had a loving parent, Max had one that abused him, warping his morals. Max would've then got his powers in a freak accident, but he goes on a dark path into villainy while Peter becomes a hero. Then for a sequel, they could've introduced the Lizard.

I remember really liking The Amazing Spider-Man when it came out and then my opinion kind of soured as I got older. Like once The Lizard shows up, it just becomes less interesting. By the same token, the stuff with Peter not finding Uncle Ben’s Killer was unique and I liked how Peter had an actual dynamic with the cops. Heck, these might be the most competent police officers in any superhero film and I still think it was a mistake to this day to kill off Captain Stacy.

This film's main point is that peter learns selflessness through selfishness. Even in the first scene when he saves the kid from flash its because peter does not care about the kid, he cares about the attention he gets by trying to save the kid. On the bridge he realised what he is doing wrong and he needs to be responsible and tries to do that. Then in the end when he goes back to dating gwen its because its a question to him will he be like his parents by leaving gwen alone or try to be different. I think its a decent film but the main problems with this film are pacing and the editing. And i also think this peter parker dresses a lot like leonard from big bang theory.

I actually have a really fine liking to this movie. The aspects that work are really really well done and almost perfect. Yes the film has its problem and it leads to a terrible sequel but I love Andrew’s lankiness and movement in the suit, I like a lot of the humor, my favorite version of Aunt May and Uncle Ben, I like this portrayal of Flash Thompson, Denis Leary is awesome as Captain Stacy, the action sequences are very well done in my eyes, I like the use of the first person swinging moments, I also enjoyed the mystery behind Oscorp and it’s secrets despite being ruined in the sequel. The romance between Gwen Stacy works well and feels human enough while also being the best version of Gwen Stacy, sorry Spider-Gwen fans. Also the bridge sequence with him saving the kid does put a huge lump in my throat. I think it’s an underrated film that deserved a better sequel and a conclusion to this version of Peter. Also the James Horner soundtrack/score while not as good as Elfman’s is honestly really uniquely wonderful.

I'm so glad you made this video. For a long time, I've had a love/hate relationship with your channel, partly because of how you've treated the TASM movies lol. As a teenager and still as an adult, I think this is the best live-action Spider-Man movie (and I honestly prefer these two movies over most of the others), because of all the good things you mentioned, despite the flaws. Andrew Garfield is my favourite live-action portrayal of the character and it just saddens me that this version of the character didn't get a proper send off. I think the downfall of these movies was because the studio execs got too involved in the production of these movies. Also, I think TASM2 might have the best tone for a Spider-Man movie despite how inconsistent said tone is lol

when they included the parents' story line as a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man, I felt even more alienated because 1) it has no payoff in this movie 2) and when it does come in the second movie it misses the point of Spider-Man by making Peter destined to be the only one who could get the powers. And I still don't know why people still say that this is based on Ultimate when the only thing it's got from Ultimate is the parents' storyline and not even that could they get right, I'd argue that the version of Spider-Man that is based on Ultimate is the MCU Spider-Man

I'd argue that this is more Ultimate-based than MCU Spidey because of a lot of aspects like; - Peter gets his powers from Oscorp. - His dad was a scientist who Peter looked up to, explaining why Peter's also a scientist. - There's a basketball scene in this movie, similar to volume 1 of the USM comics. - Uncle Ben says 'with great power comes great responsibility' in pretty much the exact same way as Ultimate Uncle Ben. - Electro looks almost identical to the Ultimate version. - Having The Lizard and Spider-Mans' origins being connected is very similar to how Goblin and Spideys' origins are connected in Ultimate. - Rhino is a giant mech suit in this and the Ultimate comics. - Green Goblins' physical appearance changes to a more Goblin-like look, similar to Ultimate Goblin. I could go on, probably because I adore this movie.

THIS video is GOLD. I grew up as a child with tobey but as a teenager I grew up with Andrew. Andrew is the only Spider-Man that matters in my opinion. The Spider-Man fanbase is so toxic to ppl who love Andrew Garfield and I think he just gets disrespected way more than he should. Tom Holland is overrated and Tobey is an all time great. But Andrew embodied the role with every single ounce of passion he had. Hell just look at his Comic Con 2011 speech it will literally make you want to shed a tear. In my opinion, The Amazing Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man film and the deleted scenes make would have made this movie phenomenal. TASM 2 killed this universe but I love Andrew he had an extreme impact on me and how I grew as a person when I got older. I relate to his Peter Parker the most because he feels the most human and the most like a real world teenager because I know people including myself who act like Andrew did in the first film during high school. Over the years I've come to realize that Andrew will always be disrespected. and that Tom and Tobey will be remembered more than him. He will always be MY Spider-Man and I can't wait to see him again in No Way Home alongside Tobey Maguire

I honestly think that TASM could have been an incredible movie with Kraven or the Chameleon as the first villain. Both are relatively grounded, and could fit the themes of the movie really well. Kraven could have been helping Peter track uncle ben's killer and teaching him to be more efficient, then going against him because Peter won't kill (like the TASM2 game). Chameleon could have been interesting because it fits the identity crisis part of the film, especially with Peter's parents, since Chameleon could have been a spy that worked with Peter's parents. Both could have been great to show what makes Spidey a hero and not just a vigilante or even villain in this universe. It also could have made things more personal. Idk I'm not a good enough writer to make things work in a youtube comment, but it would have been neat

Great video, though I disagree as to the lizard being the wrong villain choice. For me, it was perfect, and I don't believe it was done simply because people got blue balls from seeing Dylan Baker in the Raimi movies. On the subject of tightening the origin story, something I also thought was done really well, it only makes sense to have the underlying "science" of the movie being "cross species genetics", almost comparable to the force for Star Wars or possibly more relevantly the fear toxin flower from the Dark Knight. It is a concept that drives both the origin story of the hero and powers the villain. Cross species genetics as this type of concept works wonderfully for Spider-Man. Thus, the Lizard was the obvious choice for a villain. They even doubled down by connecting the Lizard to his father.

Long time comics fans will be familiar with the Darker tones, more grown-up , Black-Suited “Spectacular Spider-Man” books from the mid 80’s. Those featured Parker as a full fledged Bugle Reporter investigating often grisly crimes that often took on a Noir-lit New York Cityscape at night, where you only saw Spidey’s giant white Spider Logo and big white Eyes, creeping in the shadows to eject often violent Justice on some very Horror themed adversaries . I felt like Garfield’s Spidey had that kind of potential - which was whisked away in the sequel for saccharine bright colored daylight Spidey’s Macys parade worthy antics. ( despite being written around Gwen Stacy’s death )

I didn't really like the mechanical web shooters sam raimi got it right with the organic webs in my opinion it's just takes away the meaning of peter parker getting bit by a spider entirely. Even Noir spiderman had organic webs

A lot of the criticizm Regarding TASM has me ripping my hair out saying "YES THAT'S KINDA THE POINT" so for a while I just kinda didn't care what people thought about the movie since most of the "criticism" is just bias and nitpicks where the ACTUAL problems with the film are blown out of proportion and made them out to seem as horrible "How could anyone even think this was a competent movie" problems when in reality it was just Peter's hair is too cool

So what about Uncle Ben and Aunt May apparently letting Peter’s abandonment issues fester in all the years they raised him? He’s been with them since he was 4, right? Is that a nitpick to you?

Honestly The Amazing Spiderman would've improved if it was small scale horror movie have the Lizard act like Velociraptor from jurrasic park but way more vicious but nonetheless this movies is still one of my spiderman or comic book movies in general sure personally my top Favorite is the original Tobey Maguire Spiderman but this movie is easily in the top 5 as number 4 only bested by Spiderman and Spiderman Homecoming

I actually LOVED Sam Raimi's Spiderman 3 and MCU Spiderman but thought Andrew Garfield's Spiderman was WAY too cool & not nerdy enough. I mean yes he built his own web shooters but that was the only reason we say that he was nerdy. Well that and him shooting web all through the sewer so he could use the web vibration to detect the Lizard but still, TOO COOL!

I think it had potential, but the acting needed work. To me, it also opened up opportunities to do things differently in future instalments. I see this series as an experiment that may have not been perfect, but it paved the way for opening our minds and exploring more "what ifs" for Spider-Man. And for that, I am grateful. Keep in mind, experiments usually are a mess the first time, but that's ok. If you never try, you'll never know and never trying stunts imagination.

I will say about the costume; I LOVED seeing him put it together (and the fact that he seemed to be basing it off of sportswear), but I totally agree that he DID NOT make that suit (he may have designed it, but there's NO WAY he made that--also, HOW he get his hands on that screen printing machine 😱!?)! And I also agree that I would rather see a beautiful suit with no mention of who made it (or for it to be given to him a la Ultimate Spider-man or the MCU). And I agree that the first Raimi film did that very well. Until they blew it in the elevator scene in the second film on which he explicity states that he made it himself 🤦🏻‍♂️.

As for Spider-man 3, sure there's a lot of cool stuff in there, but it's overshadowed by way too much garbage 😅. I enjoyed it (for the most part)... Up until Harry (somehow) managed to convinced MJ to break up the with Peter and he proceeded to dance down the street like a completely moronic idiot. That was Batman & Robin garbage right there. I enjoyed the Raimi films at the time, but seeing the Webb films showed me how much I don't particularly care for the Raimi films. MacGuire looks way too old (especially in the first film--along with the rest of the cast) and was just a crybaby. I don't care what he looked like when he cried, it's the fact the he cried about EVERYTHING! He never grew up, despite looking like he was in his mid-thirties or forties the whole time. He was such a man-child. And maybe I'm crazy, but I loved The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sure it's not perfect, but we have yet to have the perfect Spider-man film, anyway 😅. I do love the current Marvel's Spider-man cartoon show, though. The second half of the first season is a bit of a slog (a but of an understatement, perhaps), but I love that Miles is in the same universe without Peter having to die and that he has the means to cultivate his science. Because he's a science nerd. Not just the complete loser from the Raimi films. Sure he probably shouldn't have that much access to tech in high school, but meh 🤷🏻‍♂️. And I absolutely love how they adapter the Superior Spider-man arc 😱🤩😍! That was too notch! It really guess to show just how many missed opportunities there were in the comic!

The series itself isn't horrible. The only thing that bugged me about TASM 1 the most was how human the Lizard looked. They should of saved The Lizard for a future film and have Peter's and Connors relationship build up to the point where he understands Connors more on a personal level like in the original 90's cartoon. TASM 2 was a horror story. Like Spider-Man 3 they crammed too much stuff in. Too many villains, the relationship with Gwen was confusing, and the Green Goblin was portrayed poorly. The only thing good about TASM 2 is his live action 🎬 comic accurate suit.

12:40 That's why I don't like the MCU spiderman, he seems to have evolved almost nothing since the first film, I don't feel that he understands the responsibility of being the spiderman, in the first film I got the impression he wants to be a hero to enter the avengers and not because it is the right thing to do, I loved the participation of the spider man in civil war but after that it doesn't even seem the same character

M K I disagree, if he did this just to be an avenger than he wouldn’t go after the Vulture. He’d let others handle it, Homecoming was about his learning that being a small neighborhood hero is as important as being an avenger.

@@thomasjohnson1885 yeah, he supposedly learned that, but in the end i don't feel like he learned anything all this time especially after the second movie. I kind of like the first one a little, but the second one I don't want to watch again.
