Not many people have heard of the psychological sci-fi horror Chaos;Head Noah
While many were introduced to the series through the famed "Steins;Gate" anime, Chaos;Head offers a unique twist, centering around a shut-in otaku amidst a backdrop of serial murders.
Despite its infamy, it's a top pick for many as their favorite Science Adventure game.

Great video! I adore CHAOS;HEAD, and Takumi is one of my favorite protagonists due to how incredibly fascinating he is--so I'm very glad you enjoyed him so much. Ayase route is a chuuni fantasy, but what may help you understand the route's purpose is to think about its themes. A great deal of C;H is about perception, and in her route, we learn that she not only doesn't see the world--or in this case, the sky--the same as Takumi, but she *can't* see it. Her world is marred by suffering and death, and only by connecting with Takumi and allowing him to enhance her world is she able to gain a new, far better perspective. It's another commentary on isolationism and the subjective nature of perception, which fits perfectly with how the narrative approaches Takumi. Also, thanks for the CoZ plug.

I'm reading through Chaos; Head Noah currently and I definitely agree about Takumi being a difficult protagnoist to read with. It works so well in the story but man those early chapters were hard to get through. I can't wait to see how wild the character routes get!

I really liked the original Chaos Head. For me Takumi is way more interesting than your typical Shirou copy and even Watabe at times (yes). It's underrated imo and I can't wait to read Chaos Head Noah (bought it but I don't have the time for it yet).

Whenever a delusion trigger popped I was laughing in anticipation of what funny shit will I see, I liked them, *especially* in C;C, where seeing many of them I was laughing out loud like that one where in positive Takuru "becomes a voice actor for gay porn" and in the other they read his notes in Cool Cat Press, these scenes are priceless xD

I am currently playing through the game and loving it. As you said aswell I do really love the Voice actor for Takumi Nichijou. The way he deliever his lines really puts his character to life. Unlike others who I have heared not enjoy the series because of Takumi I feel it completely different and I did not find The prolouge or the chapter after that or whatever to be hard to get through. I find his character to be a extremely fascinating character to view to story from even in the earlier chapters. I def do not fault anyone for being uncomfortable watching and reading what Takumi says and thinks but me on the other hand find him to be kinda comical in his day to day life. He is so out of touch with everything that is not something that is connected to the internet and I find it funny when he in his mind insult them or whatever becuase it can be just that outa pocket sometimes and the voice actor really nails his laugh aswell. His reactions to the more series events and "horror" elements I also find to be intruiginf as this is really such a uniqe character to view the story from as he acts in ways that a normal person would not which even ups the mystery and the "horror" elemets of the series to me. Well I am only currently on chapter 4, I think I am nearing the end of this chapter though and it is just getting better and better to me thus far and I do hope it keeps this up. I might even like this more than steins;gate if the series nails the rest of the main stories, the character stories does not really matter that much to me but if they do happen to be good then that would just be a bonus. Great video btw

The anime is considered to be terrible and as someone who saw it, I can agree, it unfortunately gave Chaos;Head a bad name in the early days when you could only play it with a fan translation. The problem with the anime is that it tries to shove the entire story into 12 episodes and it still manages to waste that time on unnecessary stuff. It skips a lot of major scenes and near the end the writers just give up and write an entire episode that is complete fan fiction and nothing in it happened in the vn. It's honestly one of the worst adaptations that I know of. The story also just doesn't work very well as an anime since it relies on a lot of monologues by the main character and is built on a specific atmosphere. And the animation quality itself is not even that good. I myself watched it after reading the visual novel knowing that it will suck, I also watched it with an English dub just to make it more funny, because if you watch it like that, it can be kinda amusing, otherwise i wouldn't recommend it and under no circumstances try to use it as a replacement for the vn.

I played it just recently and I can't shake the thought that Chaos Head's Nishijou Takumi seriously influenced Wonderful Everyday's Mamiya Takuji, and indeed seems to be a huge influence on the latter work and its "denpa" themes. Both are shut in, otaku and socially awkward, both have strickingly real and terrifying delusions and have a 2D waifu turned to Eldritch Horror. Lots of Subahibi's themes are also included in the novel, including memory loss, the idea of multiple personalities and many others.

C;H start was absolutely the best for me, it has this tense feel when you still don't understand anything and randomly try between positive, negative, and no delusions... the scene with the body and the cat was tense, but so was the first time you forgo a delusion and suddenly there's some very specific phrase in the background and suddenly his paranoia makes a lot of sense. After the intro though, my interest just peters out... honestly none of the SciADV series are particularly good with pacing in general.

The character routes in Noah and even the first two endings are what if endings to set up for the true ending. Quoting someone from COZ “After Norose sticks Takumi in a delusion hyperbolic time chamber in order to torture him, Shogun tells Takumi to "Look closely," and then proceeds to create yet another layer of time chamber brainworld, where he simulates multitudes of outcomes with his precognition. Takumi dies in Silent Sky so that Shogun can show him that he won't survive if he doesn't accept that everyone accepts him, so he then puts Takumi through many more iterative delusionary worlds to give him that mutual recognition to accept their prayers and gain the will to live as himself. This is why Takumi has deja vu of all the routes at the immediate start of the scene of prayer”

For me it was the ambiance the game puts that was stellar, every sound effect, the music, the backgrounds, it really made me lock in to the text and to what was happening. Spoilers . . . . . . . The torture scene even though it was only one cg really made me feel the pain takumi felt while being crucified for three days with the silent hope that it was all a delusion, and that is only one example, Chaos;Head does this throught the game and in my opinion it does it perfectly.
