For an expert developer, this is a piece of cake. Because this tools is going to help the expert writing code faster, as they already know what the answer is, they just want to be more productive. For someone learning how to code, I'm afraid this will remove the hard process of search, try, fail, repeat until you get on top of things. However, juste because experts today learned a certain way, doesn't mean there aren't any other ways. Let's just hope this tool will enable fast learning rather than blindly depending on its output.
@MauroC74
@MauroC74 Жыл бұрын
yeah, i agree, it's great for beginners because it helps you learning almost everything and it's great for expert developer because it boosts productivity BUT it's not a magical wand that makes you a programmer (or whatever) without some effort, people should understand this. And it requires asking the right things in the right way.

Great comment. I really hope that new developers still take the time to understand the fundamental concepts behind what chatgpt is spitting out. This is important because it is not 100% perfect. You will still need skill to debug or tweak for desired output. If you do not have this skill you will not make it far. Coding is only small part of development, critical thinking & analysis is true developers greatest strength.

Maybe learning to code with chatGBT will be like learning to read bylearning to recognise words by sight and work out if same rules can be applied to other words with similar spelling e.g lead and read or resume ( for a job) and resume ( begin again). With learning sources like Stack Overflow, learners already copy, paste, test and adapt code and synthesise parts together. Novice coders learn how to be more precise in their internet searches early on and they will do this with ChatGBT.

Financial advisors face significantly more stress than the average profession. Sometimes i feel like squeezing the crap out of a stress ball, and that's okay. Asides that, I'm completely comfortable paying someone for a job well done, and I've covered a lot more financial milestone using trade strategies from a financial broker and advisor in lesser time compared than I do on my own. I will only have a big problem when someone giving me advice is not being transparent.

I'm in marketing and internal solutions. For us it's sometimes easy to forget we don't always think like the consumers or can fully interpret data into accurate depictions to predict behavior and optimize accordingly and also that we don't and never will know everything. I consider chat gpt and other ai as having the world smartest intern as your assistant. Instead of work shopping blog post ideas for hours, we give a detailed prompt with a direction, refine the list, prompt title ideas for each of the shortlist options and even go as far as prompting a suggested structure for each option. It saves a lot of time and save all the flowing creative work for the home stretch. Everyone works better together and contributes more value to the end product with these custom specific guidelines to get the ball rolling.

ChatGPT is definitely going to be an important part of software engineering life in the coming years but so much care needs to be taken so that source code and confidential documents aren't fed into it. I've been using it in work and there's no question it has drastically sped up development, but it does make mistakes and you definitely need to know your code to spot flaws or making an algorithm perform better.

I have been trying it for some time and it's a great tool really. It's like a teacher that you can ask for anything. It's just next level. I have so many ideas that could make use of it. But I have this bad feeling that it's too good to be true. I know it's said that this is a research preview. I just hope that they don't make the final version too expensive if it becomes paid.

"Generalize the function XYZ()" works wonders in order to build more DRY. But I'm of the impression the more clear your instruction, the more detailed, the better the output from ChatGPT. So really spend a bit more time on that initial prompt you send to ChatGPT. If you do, you'll do less "oh you forgot this" to ChatGPT, which if you recall, will be fed into the conversation and train it to do probably problematic things as a result of your constant corrections....

To be fair most of the times it will give you answers and code similar to when you google it. But as you interact more with it, it really helps you to understand and point you to the right direction. It is still young with lots of data to process, but would be interesting to see when it matures.
@kaipn9763

Agreed. A single standalone question can be googled to find out the answers. But it's never that simple, we have follow-up questions like trying to understand how something works. This is where ChatGPT stands out and its best trait is, it "remembers" the questions you asked earlier in the conversation and drives you in the right direction.

I just finished watching the video "38 Ways to 10x Your Productivity," and I have to say that it was incredibly helpful and informative. The presenter did an excellent job of breaking down tasks and providing practical tips for developers to improve their productivity. The strategies presented in the video are not only useful for developers, but they can be applied to any profession or task. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on taking care of one's physical and mental health as a key component of productivity. Overall, I found this video to be a valuable resource and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to become more efficient and effective in their work. Like and Subscribe.=)

It's not going to make you obsolete. As I explained in the video, ChatGPT has limitations and can make mistakes. We still need seasoned software engineers to use their judgment to evaluate code for correctness, best practices, efficiency, etc. Despite your reservations, ChatGPT and AI are here to stay. Rather than resisting this reality, it's more beneficial to embrace it to stay current and competitive.

@@programmingwithmosh has limitations" Yes, THIS version has plenty of issues. Do you think technology like this stops here? You're absolutely correct, they need seasoned engineers to get this thing where they'd like it to be. After they accomplish that, you are obsolete. You're essentially saying "our new overlords are here. Learn how to interact with them or get left in the dust." While never realizing your own input is how you'll become irrelevant. Coding is to a large degree an art of writing down the requirements in a specific programming language. Code IS the requirements, in it's essence. It would be extremely troublesome to write it all down in a natural language most of the times - or you would have to be so precise and systematic, that it would be easier to just write the code. AI can produce a lot of things, but it can't read your mind and produce what you need by chance. Sure, it could be helpful, but the programmers are there to stay.

Not yet. But, sure, noone can say if the human level intelligence will not come withing this decade - then every one will lost job :-D For now, this does not understands what the code does. It is trained on very large data. It is good in generating snippets of codes that are quite general and repetetive. So treat it as better intellisense for now.
