An interview between two people I like and a topic I find interest in! I definitely think the video could use some more deliberate planning (to avoid awkward silence), more targeted questions (to keep control of the discussion and push it forward without getting lost), and a more upbeat tempo (if natural tempo is hard to control, it might help to use cuts to speed things up). Your content is interesting, you've got the right attitude to approach science, and I can see your confidence grow when you're talking about a topic you're familiar with and have good notes. Hold your head high! I'm here for the long run, so I look forward to seeing you grow as an educator. ^^ Btw, I struggle with anxiety and have severe issues with crowds, phone discussions, and video calls, but I took a public speaking course years ago at the recommendation of a professor and while the anxiety isn't gone and managing it is a completely separate battle, my ability to speak publicly increased dramatically! I went from being a nervous stutterer whose voice was too quiet for most people, to being a science communicator and translator (for Japanese)! I highly recommend it. There may be some online courses around.

Surveys are horrible to actually develop hypotheses let alone prove hypotheses. They are supposed to be used to get information and figure out what would be a good study to look into. They are the first step to and are useful but not in how evolutionary psychologists use them

We know how faulty anecdotal evidence is, perhaps I’m not really understanding Dr. Ana’s point here.

My point is that research needs to start with hypotheses that are rooted in qualitative data, such as methods that directly ask participants about their behavior in open-ended ways, and use *that* as a foundation for quantitative hypotheses. Otherwise, all you get is a bunch of myopic research studies that are out of touch with the actual lived experience of people. And my point is also that quantitative sources of information need to be paired with qualitative sources, such as checking what you hear from researchers with what you have observed with your own two eyes. Otherwise, blindly trusting a study is just as silly as blindly trusting anecdotes. We need many different sources of information, for the very reasons discussed in this video (severe methodological limitations, researcher bias, inability to replicate, etc.).
