With regards to multi-part vs monopose: I think it's actually the dynamic poses that contribute to everything looking the same. When you have an army of genericly posed multi-part marines it looks like an army of space marines. When the poses are all very dynamic the individual models stand out more and it becomes more obvious when they are repeated several times throughout an army. The newer models look absolutely spectacular on a squad level though.

I never knew about those train warning detonators until someone from the rail network came in to school and gave us a talk on what they were and why we shouldn't go near them. At the next bell almost the entire school poured down to the rail track to look for them. All you could hear for days was the sound of loud bangs as they were set off. Happy Days. Great video as always by the way!

19:05 I haven't played the Warhammers in years, but when I did, this right here was my modelling MO. I almost never bought metal kits. Eldar Aspect Warriors would be converted from Guardian sprues, and any extra shuriken pistols would be shaved down from catapults. Those stodgy-looking plastic Terminators were surprisingly easy to re-pose into something more dynamic with a little bit of cutting and putty (including into Chaos Terminators and Obliterators). Space Marine Scouts were put together from multi-part Marines and Catachan bits. My High Elf commander came almost entirely from a Silver Helms sprue. Although some of Pete's conversions _can_ run into the spendy side, he's inspiration that shows it doesn't _have_ to... 😁

@@thepaintingphase HOWEVER, I'm worried about you "running out" of people in the UK to interview. It'd be cool if y'all had enough money to fly people out for interviews but I imagine that would be far too cost prohibitive. I can dream I guess. Or maybe you can catch people when they're flying in to the UK for events? It'd be interesting to see if there's a big difference in the hobby in different countries.

Just a random tip for anyone wanting to do kit bashing, never forget the storytelling of a paint job, I’ve recently discovered that whole army wide changes can be a bit exhausting, my solution... just don’t. Paint schemes can still tell the story you want without having to make every single little model different to each other

Great chat as always, some very illuminating points of discussion. Love the minis Pete kitbashed for you guys, looking forward to seeing those pop up in another battle report down the line! Re: the conversation about modern monopose multiparts vs the loose torso/legs/arms approach of yesteryear.. Personally, I don't really care about the whole 'everyone's army looking the same' side of things on the new approach because - as Geoff himself says - it never really made much of a difference. I think the thing that bothers me about the modern multiparts is that there's often one or two minis in every box that have a very distinct pose for one reason or another. Thinking of the Battle Sisters box, there's a Simulacrum model and a Heavy Weapons model and they're both specifically posed for carrying that wargear. There's an alternate build for each of those poses, but both of these wind up looking very different to the rest of the squad (holding helmet and aiming with a pistol, holding a grenade in my example). As soon as you've got some duplicates of these models, they become very noticeable in the squads, and that always kind of annoys me a little bit. Even if you look at the less extremely different posed miniatures - the ones just walking or running or standing with a boltgun - the repeats are less noticeable, but they still kind of catch my eye. I might notice this squad has two of Battle Sister C which may have a different helmet, but are otherwise posed entirely identically. The multipart kits I think made much more 'generic' looking models, but with subtle differences that were a lot more analogue and flowed a bit better in a big squad than the more digital 5 set poses approach. This is all splitting hairs and none of this actually matters, but it's something in the Great Tedious Plastics Debate that I don't hear too often and you brought this upon yourselves for bringing it up in this video. 😂

I was on a train running into Glossop once when it stopped at a red signal for about 20 mins. The driver got the go-ahead to go through the signals, but warned the passangers that there would be a couple of loud bangs as we went over the detinators. That didn't prepare most of the travellers for the bangs, as the carriage filled with screams of shock at the noise. I can only assume they weren't listening to the announcement & thoiught we were about to plunge to our deathe off the 100ft viaduct we were crossing 😂 Great chat as always guys

Great episode, gents! I think Lard is a good name for Patrick's model, but I like "Suet" better. But if Pat wants a rib-related name, I vote "Costello", which kind of works on both levels. Also, even if you don't convert things as avidly as Pete, never buy Mechanicus bits by themselves - you'll ALWAYS use virtually the whole kit given enough time. Those are super useful kits!
