Cheap and effective water container with a spout for overlanding. Fixing the Reliance Jumbo-tainer

This container leaks...unless you do a simple 5 minute fix. It’s been solid for us. Plenty of water for 4 of us for days. I got mine from REI but you can get it at the Amazon link below, walmart or REI.

Thanks so much for the fix idea! I bought my tank yesterday at an REI garage sale for $10.00, as it was a returned item due to a "leak in the cap". I was literally just working on it an hour ago. Thought I could fix it quick, thinking a pin hole was the problem. Of course the cap still leaked. Now I'm in bed, frustrated, and looking at a bunch of youtube vids on patching up plastic, and you happen to have a vid on the exact random problem I have. What are the odds? I never would've thought to trim the threads. You're a clever dude! Thank you very much!

I am a pastor in Mississippi, stumbled upon your channel as I've been looking into getting a daily driver/vehicle I could overland in. You convinced me on the GX 470. Just acquired a 2008 with 145k miles. Great info on your channel!

The little bit of plastic that you removed is called flashing. It’s not uncommon to have a tiny amount of residual left on either/both parting lines after production. Thanks for the review.....I’ll have to look into these cans.

@@GXOverland yeahhhh it was fine that time but another time I took it even deeper (like water at the level of the window) and water got inside the cabin and insurance declared it a total loss. Mechanically its fine, still runs & drives but electronics (mainly my nav) are long gone lol so I got me another GX to start fresh.

Hi there. I have the Reliance 6 gallon water containers and I cannot figure out how to tighten everything to get the water spigot pointing towards the ground/ My spigot always faces to the left of down? Ive tried many different times with no luck? Any suggestions? Or do I just have to lay the container in the correct position so the spigot is facing down?

I have the same issue. I found another person who posted a video about the same issue - her fix was using an o-ring for the connection between the spigot and the container cap.
