My experience with one I believe may have been more cheaply made with key rings at either end was this. Once I got past the shallow learning curve of how to use it without it getting stuck, I got into a nice rhythm and it was at about that time where the crimped attachment became detached from the wire rendering it almost useless. Lessons I learned. Don't depend on it. Treat it gingerly (if at all) or better yet. Just find a more suitable piece of wood elsewhere.

That's a green wood saw. It's not supposed to work on dry wood.

Why do companies keep making these? I haven't seen any that are worth carrying.

Only thing is, dirt cheap products can be a buzz kill for people who may have been enthusiastic, then they think oh i cant be bothered this sucks... Whatever you do, dont buy dirt cheap bushcraft products, id sooner save up and buy quality, that will not fail - its not just that they might fail you if you need to "survive" , its the level of disappointment and frustration

It's not working right because you're not using it properly. Besides in a survival situation this is more than adequate. You dont need perfectly square cuts.
