Great episode! I wanna see what would happen if you just gave each guy $300 and they weren't allowed to use any of their own gear. They have to buy the kwad, radio, batteries, goggles, and everything for $300. No one getting into this hobby already has Fatsharks, or a Futaba. See what the best guys in the business can do with $300. Would they build, or go RTF? Where would they skimp and what would they spend the most money on? Would they get the cheapest Fatsharks and a micro, or box goggles and 5"? Or would they just get an RTF and upgrade it? I think it would be a very interesting and entertaining show.

Wizard. That is where I started. You learn to fly and build. Mine now has Hypetrain, Spedix ESC, Matekf405, Runcam and TBS VTX. If I started with a good one I never would have gotten to install all these good parts.

After a whoop, the original Wizard was my first quad as well. That thing is still rock solid with only the original upgrades I put on it. Unify Race and Runcam Swift 2. I've since built and lost a chameleon, and recently just rebuild another one that I've had to troubleshoot a lot. Wizard has never stopped working and has been crashed a ton on concrete. Still rocking it with the chameleon.

This is easily one of the best episodes in quite a while. One of my favorite things about it was the interactions between the crew. Lots of fun to watch. Getting a look at these cheaper quads was also cool, and potentially useful for newcomers to the hobby. I know episodes like this are probably not financially viable to make all the time, but there was a lot to look about this. Keep up the good work.

Skitzo FPV Oh, Dude! That sounds great! Would like to have seen that. Skitzo... I feel like a long video of Botgrinder and you on a flying adventure would be a great juxtaposition of styles and personalities. Maybe both of you getting ready for... and then officially running a full on sanctioned race somewhere would be a good setting for some yin and yang flavors... as well as being a good challenge for both of you. Anyway... I always get a good vibe from your personalities. This was one of the best entries I’ve seen from Rotor Riot, yet. Although not ideal... the rain added a certain tension that was pretty Cool.

I started with the first Wizard and I have to say that quad was worth it's weight in gold to me. I had never soldered before, I'd never even picked a drone up before, I didn't even know if I was going to like it. I probably racked up 30 to 40 hard hits, over my time with it, camera was the first to be replaced, then the VTX, ESCs were next and eventually I replaced the motors. I really did get a lot of time and experience from that thing, it was cheap enough to get me into the hobby while not being so cheap that it was complete junk, it gave me the most realistic experience I could have gotten at the time for the money that's led me down a nice path where I build my own cheap and expensive quads. In total I crashed that quad into aprox 20 to 30 trees, 2 soccer goals, 2 wire fences, my car... twice... at speed, a light pole, a shipping container and actually landed in a camp fire by accident (turns out the less dense air from the fire makes it hard to hover), in the end it was a ghost branch from a tree in the bush at night that ended the Wizard, at full speed the entire frame snapped in half, I zip-tied it all back together and was able to fly it for about a minute before a hard landing was enough to fry the FC. God bless that little quad.

I started in the hobby with the Eachine Wizard, because I couldn't afford more than that. Also started with Eachine's $50 box goggles. Have both of them still and still enjoy flying the wizard. I usually fly it first at new places to get a lay of the land. As you Drew said, I learned a lot about repairs on the Wizard too, I've replace flight controllers, FPV camera, VTX, and ESCs on the wizard. Since the wizard, I have built and regularly fly a 5" Armattan Chameleon. Great video guys!

When's the RETRO Kwad Challenge? I'm thinking two categories... Heritage: KK2 or 2.1 (either original firmware, not even Steveis reflash), any 450 size x-frame, 3S, 10x4.5/4.7, any low bit rate pre-SimonK ESCs, Legacy: Naze32 Rev 4 or AfroMini, 1800 motors, 3S battery, 2 blade 5x3, early build of CleanFlight, Simon K ESCs, etc.

Awesome show guys! This is RR getting back to its roots. Even though the quads are cheap there is something to be said about quality, and enjoying the experience. Personally I have found that buying name brand products are less hassle, and provide a funner experience. Being able to fly consistently without doing repairs/tuning after every flight make the hobby more enjoyable and less expensive.

Firstly, I loved this episode! Secondly, I started with the Eachine Wizard x220 (I think the one in this video is the 220"s"). I loved it because (just like they said) it's exactly the setup that the professionals fly. It didn't have any problems in this video, and neither did I. Yes, replace the camera first. It's the biggest thing between you and the world while you fly.

This was a pretty awesome video. I'm glad to have this sort of fun comparison between the various entry-level quad packages out there. All of the five-inchers performed much better than I would have expected. I think the Wizard came close, but in the end, Drew was the winner, having flirted with the majority of the dudes on the retreat.

On a side note you could have downloaded the 3.1 whatever config app and everything would have worked as it should.

Great vid! More wacky stuff like this! Got a Torrent. First thing I did was to ditch the awful prop... "guards", more like destroyers, then soft mount the motors and change the stock props. Some of the stock props are horribly off balance and all of them brake if you looked hard at them. After a bit of tinkering it's tons of fun in a small package.

I keep on being surprised by my Torrent. I bought it early and the first batch may have had some ESC issues as I went through 3 of them (all replaced free by HH), but then I soft-mounted the FC, took off the prop guards and did a proper tune and it's still one of my favorites! A 450 2s is almost as much fun as a 450 3s, but time and time again, it's the go-to quad for some freestyle fun in smaller areas. GREAT GREAT episode! Watching you guys struggle with these quads should be inspiration to all of the beginners out there, but please tell me you guys had a Tiny Whoop party afterwards in that house! I saw plenty of things to Whoop there! :D

Lol! Skitzo’s reaction to how heavy the quad is had me crying, I️ had to go back and watch it again.

Hey Drew, I got to say you looked so good in that video! You remind me of an actor on tv. I think it's The Arrow, Stephen Smell. Keep up this great work guys. This is exactly what I want from Rotor Riot

If you have a spectrum radio I think the torrent is a good micro quad. However, if you're looking to flying 5 inch quads eventually I think the Eachine Wizard is hands down the best bang. The flysky radio is decent but you can get a Frsky pnp version like I did when I first started. My wizard has been modified heavily since I first got it. After a year of flying fpv and after building 3 - 5in quads this summer I still love flying my wizard. It takes a good beating too. Like Drib was saying you'll end up breaking stuff and having to replace components and the wizard will be similar to anything else you'll end up building or replacing.

Honestly I started a on the Wizard and still have it today and it flies...obviously updated it a little since then!! bought the Torrent later and after 3 seperate flights something on the tower caught fire and it was just past warranty so no chance to return. Although when I did fly the Torrent on 3s it was a monster with prop guards off!!

That was one of the best strong videos I have ever seen. You guys just seem like you're having so much fun and it just seems like little kids in a candy shop lol. Nothing amazing about the drone it was just fun to watch.

pretty interesting/cool that none of them were conformal coated/waterproofed and all managed to go through a few packs without major issues :)

I liked this video quite a bit! 20min plus is fine!!! Especially with content like this! If I were starting for today I’d go wizard! It offers all the stuff drew mentioned. Plus it’s the most complete setup. Cuz it came with a radio!! It’s the winner!

Watching this video on April 22, 2022 and knowing the prices of what those quads were are just crazy. Fpv has involved so much since then

My current fpv setup cost under $150, got a crossfire quad at hobby store consignment for $50, flysky radio and makerfire goggles and I was good to go. Just spent around $200 on bits for a 4c quad build, going to try OrangeRX because I have had issues with the flysky range.

That was legit one of the coolest videos I've ever watched. Thanks for the head to head line up. I started with a wizard x220s and didn't have goggles, I lost it flying Los. That was a year ago, I've came a long ways. But honestly I miss that quad, I'd buy another, but I really like building them now
