For my solo low budget filmmakers brothers out there: Do you know that for the price of a budget cinelens you can have a set of prime lens ready made for video from #Meike ?
PS: I did not include any test footage because there are already plenty of videos about these lenses on KZfaq.

Au plaisir Yam. Merci.

As usual I'm re-watching your videos for inspiration. I'm working out ideas for a Mir 20 review, and suddenly what do I see? You've expertly, succinctly, and SIMPLY reviewed that lens in about 4 seconds with a clever motion graphic.

:D. IMO for a review to be interesting one should compare the lens to a similar one in terms of price and specs. Try with the Soligor 21mm F3.8.

What is that shade-blocking cap called that you're putting on top of the lens it looks great but I don't know what its called in order to research it
@fredr.
@fredr. Ай бұрын
"Lens hood" simple as that. Just keep in mind that the cap should be one size bigger than the hood. Eg: if you pick a 72mm hood, the cap should be 77mm. And 77mm Filters thread will fit only 72mm hood.

Your channel is definitely underrated had so much fun watching almost all of your videos and definitely subscribed to you after :) Quick question if money wasn't a factor would you still get this set of lenses in comparison to a set of Meikes? I'm a bit into video and right now miss a good lens. I stumbled upon the Meike Cine lenses which are on the used market for 200€ available. And one other guy here on YT also liked these non Cine meike lenses and used in his vids the 25 and 35 i think. Somehow a lot later he switched to TTArtisans which aren't that far apart price wise for example the results with the 17mm f1.4 looked bananas for the price. So if you'd have these three as options available which would you decide on.
@fredr.
@fredr. 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for ur kind words. Really appreciate. Please share the link of the channel you r talking about. About your very good question: - I never had a TTartisan in hand but Some people told me that the TTartisans are the real deal in term of budget with character. Yet, if money is not a problem, buy the Meike Cinelenses, even if they lack personality and character. Because you never know if one day someone will be ready to pay you to film anything. No one went wrong with a Meike Cine. Every pro and amateur owning a Meike cine lenses are saying good thing about the set. While a TTartisan will make look like a Sunday afternoon KZfaqr. But if you are 90% sure that making money is not on the list, yeah just go with TTArt. But... If you are looking for an affordable option with "cinematic" touch, better check the reviews of the Mitakon Speedmasters MFT. Same price than the Meike cinelenses.
@sarcasticfpv3862
@sarcasticfpv3862 8 ай бұрын
@@fredr. thanks a lot for the hint will check out the mitakon too. The guy i was talking about is Roman Hense. Most of the time he films his family kids but at interesting occasions. And in the older ones the title is something like my fav lens blackmagic it's a bit above 3 yrs old. Edit: also by the way question is if character-less isn't a huge problem because most often i fly fpv drones with a GoPro on it. While i certainly have improved my Colorgrading part etc its still difficult to match something super vintage to GoPro footage i assume Edit2: too bad mitakon used not available at all in Germany. As of now it's then either Meike Cine used around 400€ then, new TTArtisans or new non Cine Meikes like in your video
@fredr.
@fredr. 8 ай бұрын
Mark, IMO the TTArtisans are better than the Meike Primes, my only criticism is the shape of the TTArt: models don't match and are not suitable for adding focus gear. But I am still on my previous advice: Go with the Meike Cine lenses. Just keep in mind that you will need to had a motorized follow focus to really appreciate their potential. Also an other point: Low light. Better check the T stops of the Meike before buying. The first offering of the Meike Cine is not low light friendly.
@sarcasticfpv3862
@sarcasticfpv3862 8 ай бұрын
@@fredr. towards the low light is really the only issue i am not sure but i will just get one of the mike cines and will see for myself. I want to use them on the bmpcc4k which has at least two base isos so maybe i will get away with it in the high iso bracket :)

wow, man you are THE legend to beat!! i am going to purchase the Lumix G9 soon for around £500 used, and could only find official panasonic and leica lenses, basic ones like 50mm f.50 for £99+ going up to £700 for the 100mm - 300mm. but ive just searched google for the meike lenses and straight away, new on amazon the 25mm 1.8 for £79!! thank you so much and keep up the amazing videography! subbed :)
@fredr.
@fredr. 9 ай бұрын
@TheMattchooo: "the legend" Oh my 🤣 ... I am not a chick, no need to start the conversation like this LOL!. Anyway, if I were in your situation, I will take the Pana/Leica lens 50mm and for the manual the Meike 12mm, the 25 and 35, these 2 are great in low light. You can pass on the Meike 50mm. But if one starts from scratch and wants to future proof his lenses set, I definitely think that he should invest in in a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 + focal reducer then a cheap set of vintage like the Takumar. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sL1gishhu6ixaJs.html
@TheMattchooo
@TheMattchooo 9 ай бұрын
what does a f1.8 focal reducer do exactly?@@fredr.
@fredr.
@fredr. 9 ай бұрын
f1.8 is the aperture of the lens. Not the focal reducer that usually is around 0.7x allowing you to use an EF-mount on an MFT camera. And increases the focal length of your lens by 0.7x. Example: a 35mm f2 lens on ur Lumix G9 will be the equivalent of a 70mm f4 on full frame. with the focal reducer it will be a 49mm f2.8. A focal reducer is a must have on MFT.

Great Videos! Just curious, what do you think about the Kamlan lenses? I was thinking about making a set with them for m4/3.
@fredr.
@fredr. 2 ай бұрын
Short answer: With regards to the reviews and to what Meike and 7 Art have these days in their catalogue, the Kamlan are average but mostly overpriced for what they are., especially theirs MKII. If you buy them second hand, that's ok. Brand New? It does not wort it. On a visual identity, there is nothing. Long answer: I remember having sent an email to have some models for reviews as I m living in the region... Never had a reply.🤔 And it sums up everything: This manufacturer is a ghost. Rumors that owners of Kamlan are also the owners of Meike, but the fact is We know nothing about this company, excepted 4 models, 2 MKII and the buzz made on the 50mm f1.1 6 years ago. And a ridiculous website selling 4 lenses; a IG last updated in 2019. And 1 year ago on FB they announced a kick-starter for a "New Bokeh Monster"... Nothing since. Seems to me that it is not a real brand, but the commercial project of someone, most likely the subcontractor of a brand that is dusting off its shelves. And of course I might be entirely wrong... Better invest in something else.

Man, you're so right! I just received a set of Hexanon... Like you said, there's always a problem. Aperture, fungus, stiff focus ring... Hard to find stuff in mint condition. I'm done too... But neither Meike nor 7Artisans have full frame EOS-R in 24ish and 35mm lenses.

Hi Fred, I love your film style and how you put over the information and the humor. Très bien! Magnifique! I'm curious as to how you create the motion effects for you films. In particular the animated cut out photos at 1min12sec and 0min 35sec. Can you tell me how you created these Was it a combination of photoshop and filters to five it a comic book effect? I hope you have time to answer my questions. Many thanks
@fredr.
@fredr. Жыл бұрын
Thanks Marlon. The motion is in fact quite simple to do, yet it takes some time. For the intro at 00:35. - Basic photos made with my iphone. - Drop in Photoshop > Select > Subject (to remove the background) > Export in .png - Drop in FCP > add Filter > Comics (just a bit) For the 01:12 The quick way: - Use a phone or camera to make a photo time-lapse of yourself. - Import the pics in your computer and delete 1 every 2 pics, even 2 pics every 3. - Import the remaining pics into the timeline, and each pic should last 2 frame or 3 minimum, depending how you like it. The thing is that it should not be perfect, so randomly some pics should be set to 3 or 4, 5 frames. - Use the mask tool to cut around the background around body, to give a paper cut look - Add some paper filter or a clip of paper background above the sequence with the blend mode set to overlay 50% transparent. Or If you have FCP: Effects > Text effects > Stencil, adjust it and uncheck the show background. The Long way (specially when using green screen): - Film yourself and import the clip in the editor. Edit the necessary part as you like - And re-export the clip as a image sequence, and delete as much image as possible. - Re-import the pics, and add the effects. Adjust the frame length of the image/pic. Repeat some frames to give a gif effect. Just Keep in mind that it should not look perfect, so don't hesitate to dirty some frames by increasing the effect, and modify the saturation, exposure of some frame. Have fun! :D

No. it increase. but This is tricky because they usually omit to indicate it. For my lenses of49mm ⌀ I have 2 kinds: - The 72mm that has a thread for 77mm filter. (requiring 77mm lens cap) - The 77mm that has a thread for 82mm filter. (requiring 82 mm lens cap) Just make sure to read the specs before order.
