FYI everyone I just used the last of my can of Augason scrambled eggs. I checked the date and it had been open 13 months in Arizona. Inside temp in my home in summer is 80 degrees and in winter it's 68 degrees. Even the bottom of the can amount tasted just as good as the first. That's a win!

I made some ghee after watching you make your ghee. My daughter just emptied the jar I gave to her. She used it to make grilled cheese for her family in the past few months. They love it and decided I wasn't that nuts for making it LOL. One thing though, don't learn the hard way as I did...never put your knife back into the ghee with any bread crumbs remaining. Next time you open the jar it will be full of mold. Yuck!

Yes…that’s the problem with Gee, but I don’t care. I remove my gee with two different spoons to extract what I need. If I need more gee after two spoonfuls, oh well..I get another. It’s worth it. Really not a problem…so what you have to use 2-3 spoons or knives…wash them after!

Thank you for the cool test! I have seen cheese waxing on other channels, and they recommend cutting into smaller blocks (smaller than the large 2 pound blocks you usually get cheese in for the cheaper prices) and then allowing the surface to dry out slightly before waxing for maximum preserving qualities - so if the cheese comes waxed, it has not been dried first and is in a large block usually, so the additional cutting and drying may be beneficial for longer storage....just my two cents, I have not experimented yet. This makes me want to try it out!

I cook a lot for my grandson and his roommate has a serious dairy allergy. I use ghee for all his food and his roommate can eat it. It looses all the milk solids, I really filter the ghee. I use it like butter, so it doesn't last long at my house.

😀 Thank you, Kitt. I'm still traumatised from 5 hours in the chair! They removed the crown and were almost done with the root canal when she drilled some more bad tooth and said there wasn't enough tooth to hold another crown. It had to be pulled! She had a hard time getting it out and my jaw really took a beating from the pressure. Now I'm afraid to go back to have 2more crowns pulled. I'm prone to cavities under them. I wish I had all the $ I've spent on my teeth. 😨 Am I being punished for never drinking milk? You should start a YT channels about natural remedies. We would all benefit. Hugs! 💜

We get the AF Scrambled Egg and put 1/4 cup in a snack size baggie and then put it on top of dehydrated chunks of biscuits from Sams Club that you get in a flat pack back in the bakery area, 2 table spoons of freeze dried sausage, and 1/2 a pkg of country gravy mix in a jar that we vacuum seal for quick camping meals when we go on car trips. You can just heat some water for biscuits and gravy and let it sit while you scramble the eggs in your homemade ghee. It’s delicious 😋 Thank you for the cheese update - I’ve been nervous to do it myself but I can see that yours are doing great 👍

GOOD info on preserving fresh vanilla beans. Economical if you buy fresh vanilla beans (15 or more) on line (Ebay, etc.). I put them in tall jars with brandy and refrigerate them. If you do not preserve them in vodka, rum or brandy, the vanilla beans dry out.

You inspired me to break into my first batch of waxed cheese for a taste test. It's about 16 months past the "Best By" date. I was surprised that it tasted like I bought it yesterday! I was also concerned because I had waxed medium cheddar, and was worried that it may have aged to a sharp cheddar, but it tasted exactly the same. When I waxed mine, I cut the monterey jack into 2 oz triangles, and the cheddar into 2 oz rectangles. Glad I did, because I never labeled them! Also, I've kept mine in the fridge in a large plastic lidded container so I can flip the whole container over occasionally without having to flip them individually. I wonder if the cheese would have aged to a sharper flavor if I would have left them out at room temp. I'm ready to wax more!

This waxing cheese are a great idea and it's not a waste and doesn't need to be refrigerated!! A few years ago, there was a show that's calledI Doomsday Preppers. For starters, I have made a bug out bag for my family of 5. It's not a lot in the bag and I think I have to update certain things in the bag. It's a start and I've been trying to prep slowly but surely. I'm a last minute person doing some shopping and lots of supplies like food, alcohol etc & stuff was gone and which I literally learned from this Covid-19 pandemic. I live in an apartment in NYC, Manhattan and there's not alot of space to stockpile my food, what should I do? I hope you can get back to me. I know this video is from Aug 2019, so not sure how to do you respond back. Don't know how this works since it's my first time commenting. You are very kind in sharing and giving people like us informative information on how to prep. Keep up with your awesome videos!! God bless you and your family. Thank you!!👍🏻👍🏻😊🙏🏻🙏🏻 Kind regards, Nancy

I'm thinking because you put it in the freezer to help harden the wax, it picked up a bit of moisture and the extreme cold shrank the cheese a bit, then sitting on the board, the cold moisture adhered to the wood. Just a though AP. :)

Hi AP! Blessings! Im so happy you showed us how your cheese dipping came out! You so very much inspired us with your cheese waxing video that i immediately ordered everything needed to start our own cheese waxing. I do have a?. After the cheese gets waxed & needs to dry, can i use partchment paper to put onto my metal drying rack? I know that partchment paper does breath a bit. So im thinking of using it to set the waxed cheeses on. Also I have a big block of red wax for cheese & a few small blocks of the black wax. Do you know if the 2 different colors are ok to melt them together in the same pot? I bought a 3 quart pot to do the cheese waxing in & its a bit bigger than i thought it would be. Anyway, Gods best blessings to you and yours! & Thank you for all you do! Were prepping much smarter these days thanks to you & all your efforts!

My cheddar and colby are doing good. I hang mine in mesh nets, from produce and hang them on hooks under my pantry shelving. I did not have such good luck with the mozzarella. Two of them broke open, so I placed the others in the freezer.

I've been making my own vanilla extract for year's & wanted to share a tip so you don't loose any through evaporation. Make sure to ferment it in a dark brown bottle in a cool dark place. Vanilla shouldn't ever be stored in plastic because it loses its flavor & potency. The same happens when using clear glass but that's due to light. I use Meyers Dark Rum bottles & ferment it sitting on tile, which stays cool & in a dark place. Shake the bottle (gently) once a week & it's ready within 3-6 months depending on the type of pods used. Madagascar are best along with Smirnoff, it has mild taste, isn't cheap or expensive but the end result is wonderful. Don't use Tito's, Skye or Kettleone, taste of vanilla doesn't turn out well! You don't need to scrap seeds & put in separate, just split the pods. I use 8-10 pods depending on the size & a 5th of vodka, it lasts me just shy of 1 1/2 yrs. I cook & bake a lot! Strain it through a mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth & keep in another dark glass jar. I will start another batch for gifts & for storage. After fermented you have a remove pods & filter out anything from bottle. Cloudiness is caused by shaking to vigorously & pods have been left in to long.

Can you reuse the black wax again? Would you process it to be able to use it again. Vanilla beans, you can put the dried vanilla bean in your powered sugar. Yumm.

When you scrape out the vanilla bean and put the "meat" of it in there with the bean pod, will it get a little cloud?. Not that it would matter, and effect any flavor, but just wondering.

Hello Paige, yes it will, you can either filter the extract prior to use but I use it as is because I just think it's cool to see a few little fibers of vanilla in the food you prepare with it, lets you know it's home made. God bless....
