I tried this recipe last night, and it blew me away. The look, texture, and taste were all spot on. With every bite, my taste buds were waiting for a hint of banana but nothing. I added the extra liquid before first mixing, but it was too wet, so I added more breadcrumbs Which made me yield 18 meatballs instead of the 12-13 you suggested. I will definitely try the pull pork recipe next. I can't figure out how to post a photo can anyone help?

Years ago, I made the mistake of freezing bananas without peeling them first. It was not fun, trying to peel them later. But you live and learn. I never knew you could use the peels, althought I used to blend them with water and feed to my rose bush. If you buy rose food, it smells very strongly of bananas. They are good for discouraging insects from eating the rose bushes. We were never taught in school about the way that Mother Nature provides for us. What a rip off it was, thinking we were learning everyhting important that we needed to know. Better late than never, we now have you tube and wonder tutors like you and Steve the bread man, (that's what I call him) and God bless all of our wonderful cooks and bakers and gardeners who share their knowledge and experience with us.

I just tried this recipe and WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS? I didn’t have tomatoes so I just fried them instead and added parsley into the mixture. Since I went vegan I was searching for a meatball recipe but they would always turn into a mush but this crisped up so well and the taste of them was amazing. I only fried one of the meatballs to try how they tasted there’s a bunch of them in the fridge for the next day I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE DINNER!!! Hi Jana, I tried the recipe ... had to substitute milled chia seeds for flax seeds, and ginger for nutmeg ... and it was awesome!! My only advise is that the dish is best served hot rather than warm (tried it both ways when I went back for seconds!), but ultimately I would say a huge success ... looking forward to more of your recipes! I literally followed it step by step ... didn’t prefry anything ... served at a dinner party & went down a treat! I also added 4 balls to the air fryer just to see what they were like out of the sauce ... they got crispy, but did not taste as good as those added to the sauce initially ... my daughter thought they tasted like onion bhaiji 😅 It’s great to see recipes that I can actually make tasty vegan options from what I have at home 💕 Keep up the good work!!

I made both the bolognese and the banana peel meatballs, SO GOOD! The texture of the meatballs did come out a little gummy, but I think this may be because I used panko instead of the regular breadcrumbs. Despite that one fault (which was my own), I loved it. I have tried a few varieties now, and I would like to add some ideas here: If you bake it or fry it as burger patties instead of cooking them, it is a good idea to add a half tsp baking powder. If you are gluten-sensitive leftover rice works well instead of flour. If you don't insist on a vegan solution:, eggs are fantastic binding agents. Actually, banana is already a very good binding agent. You can add either a banana or 2 eggs instead of the flaxseed. I have tried it also with potato flour, and that also works; it adds a bit of hashbrown energy to it. I also like some basil added. I really like the shallow fried version, this recipe is the best vegan burger I have ever had.

Thank you, Jana, dear. I try to make your recipe and I've got my own one at the time I worked on it. Here are my changings. 2 -3 banana peels chopped or blended a little The same quantity of rice, yesterday coocked (brown or half round rice - your preference) 1 small shredded carrot 1 TBSP of flax seeds pouder 1 TBSP of matzos flour 1-2 garlic cloves Turmeric pouder, oiled maroccan paprika, black peper, kumin, cillantro, ginger pouder Himalaya salt Making a meatballs and refrigerating as you recommended. For the sauce: 1chopped onion 1 chopped carrot Grapeseeds oil 1 tomato and some catchup Himalaya salt Water as need The seasoning is jist the same as for the meatballs I also add smoked paprika and small qantity of sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce. Cooking is regulary - heat oil, add onion, than add carrot, than tomato, than water. All the seasoning can be added in time of onion/carrot cooking, before adding water. Cooking a soace takes like half an hour or the time your meatballs are sitting in the refrigerator. Than more 20 minutes of coocking the meatballs in a gravy. To make a gravy more thick you may add 1TSP of tapioka with water , with tearspoon carefully around the meatballs. Done! With love from Haifa, Israel😀

Thank you for sharing this yummy recipe dear Chef Jana, ah....it totally makes sense now, when years ago my Dad told us that our Grandpa's gardener ate his bananas whole and we were like why would you do that?!! But years later there was a dried, blackened banana peel on the ground next to our garden, and my pet rabbit, sniffing every inch of the garden came across the banana peel and happily started munchin' on it, I was frightened and quickly took the banana peel away from her, but she only inquisitively searched for the peel, so if gardeners and rabbits love the banana peel and now you share this yummy recipe, well, trying this recipe soon! A good mixture to use to clean the banana of pesticides is a solution of water, a bit of vinegar and salt. Soak the *whole, uncut fruit* in the solution for 5-10 minutes and rinse well. Then, you will have peels safe for consumption whether they’re organic or not :) If you need more info about this technique, Dr Michael Mcgregor is on KZfaq and has covered this topic.

Hand are like that... And how many times u c ppl finished to use a bathroom and just walk away? Or just simply go to the washing area and turn the water on one second later they're done. Because of all those reasons that's ppl get disgusted especially if u are touching the food they are going to eat... Hi, Chef Jana ... I keep forgetting to order paprika, but have turmeric on hand. I use it a lot, on chicken thighs when I fry them in the electric fryer, and I just finished peeling and scraping six banana peels. I put the bananas in the freezer for later use and the peels are in a plastic food saver bag. They are going to become "meatballs" as soon as I finish my homemade soup that I have left over from yesterday. I love your recipes, even though I'm not vegan, because it is a good way to lose weight and save money by not using ground meat for meatballs or burgers. I may become a vegan yet, but not sure, as I still like to use eggs. Please don't judge me...You are my new BFF.

My mother doesnt like fake meat but she was impressed. We have some left over and will be eating this again tonight.

I love this! I’m going to try this tomorrow. I made this - I had a bit of trouble with the right temp in the sauce when cooking the balls. They got mushy. I decided to bake the balls that I hadn’t cooked and they were great! So I’ll do that next time I use this recipe. They’re cooling on my counter now before freezing and it’s so tempting to snack on them!

When i was growing up, we’d dry the (green/unripe) peels and then grind them into a powder and use as flour. Some others would slice them into strips snd make a porridge. I moved to the USA and realised i can never consume banana peels here. No Ma’am. Can’t trust anything here. But this is a fantastic video. Well done.

Yes it is a shame here in the US. We can't even trust the food if it claims to be organic. The FDA is paid off by the food industry. Just one more way the US has changed.

Wow 😲 wonderful, it's good to know that we can consume the skins of the banana 🍌 and other's. I never throw away the banana skin, I cook it already but not as how you did it, I didn't scrap the skin as you did, I used to cut it very fine putting all the seasoning etcétera. But I used the half ripe bananas skin not the green one, but I am going to try it with the green skin. Thank you so much for sharing this information and the recipe, it's amazing how to know how we can eat much healthier with the all the things our Heavenly Father has created for us Amen 🙏 I thank you once again for sharing. @@kj285 i know, it makes sense and it's "normal" for some people but sometimes we have to change our view of "normal". like, 100 years ago, many horrible behaviors were considered "normal" but today they are completely unacceptable. for me i just can't stand the word meat in any situation...it reminds me too much of animals and the terrible way they are treated. everyday i question the "norm" and a lot of it makes no sense to me. like cars, trucks, airplanes, rockets,etc..., they are "normal" for most people but for me they are the evil destruction of our planet and we might go extinct because of them. =)

I have a question.......if you use a ripen peel can you use a hotter spice and or acid to balance the sweet? I want to try this because I don't like waste. There is so many things in nature that can nurture us.
@ChefJana
@ChefJana 5 жыл бұрын
Vicky, you can still use the greener bananas in smoothies, or just as you normally would, or in cakes and all... But if you only like ripe bananas, you can still make it but scrape the peel some more, it will be thinner so you'll need more peels. and if you make the banana peel pulled no pork that I've shown here, even better, because the bbq sauce compliments the occasional sweetness from the ripe peel. the link for the vid is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pb-Ai86jvN-bmY0.html Let me know what you made and the results! 🥰
