In this video I have a look at a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban that came in with a customer complaint of an entire bank of misfire. A quick scan of the vehicle revealed that it was having issues with all the coil control circuits on bank one. Powers, grounds, ECM? Let's have a look. -Enjoy!

One of the first things I learned from my Uncle Gus was check the grounds. He was a truck driver but also a pretty good mechanic. He drove for a trucking company that had a truck that had been in the shop for a month with numerous electrical issues. He kept telling them that there was a ground problem and they kept telling him he didn't know what he was talking about. Finally they told him if he thought he was so smart, fix the truck. He took the main ground wire off the frame cleaned it and put it back on, truck was fixed!

Had a Wire Gremlin , Ghostly , Phantom issue in a friends 1994 Chevy 6.5L turbo diesel. Started looking at around dusk and was quit dark when i opened the hood. There was an strange orange glow coming from behind the head at the fire wall. Mind you i had turned all a/c full and headlights and everything power hungry on before i opened the hood. A single copper ground strap attached to the motor and firewall was glowing red enough to cook on. All 4 of the other grounds were totally corroded away. And with a mechanical fuel pump it didnt need spark. BTW the fuel bowl was just in front of it! Could have been a fire!!!

You really gotta keep them "Ground Relocation Kits" in stock here in NY. All brands and nationalities of motor vehicles are susceptible to salt, I've never seen any vehicle hold up to the salt for very long without needing attention. We are the worlds corrosion test lab. As the song says, "If you can make it here (NY), you can make it anywhere". This Suburban made it 14 years, which isn't bad at all. Many succumb much sooner. Thanks Eric, I enjoy watching even "routine" repairs, you always make it entertaining.

Eric, you are so fast, it's mind boggling, I had the exact same issue on a GMC pick-up only 3 days ago. My customer was told by a dealer that he needed a new computer! It's a good thing he decided to take it to me. It took me about an hour, but I used the same process.

So the dealer diagnoses a faulty computer when it's really just a bad ground wire. The only thing that surprises me about this? Is how supposedly "qualified" people can be so incompetent/crooked/pick one.

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. I lost the whole left cylinder bank last night. I live in the Netherlands and the AAA, which is called ANWB, doesn't know anything about US cars. So there I was in the middle of nowhere with this rough idling car and all kinds of codes in my screen...and than I found this KZfaq video that told me exactly how to fix it! Man, I'm so grateful for your help. Can't thank you enough. Car is driving smooth again and it took ten minutes and a piece of wire...so again, thanks!

Haha I just spent 3 days, between looking at wire diagrams, dreaming up tests, going with Haynes and Chilton manuals test to discover a bad ignition control modular. I was chasing 2 issues fuel? Ignition? Because no spark test lamp, no fuel presser gage. Sigh.... It was a crank no start issue. Finaly confirmed ignition tests called out the modular, replaced, hard start but start, so now fuel issue pump related shows no prime. Its a 96 GMC truck new to me so still learning it. Easyer then the newer stuff but way more electron crap then my 86 Toyota I had for 16 years every inch of. Shade tree mechanic skills, to poor to not be a DYI guy. I love your channel, I have a 05 GMC 1500 with the big 5.3 and have had the po300 and several bad grounds .all of which I had to diagnose myself so when watching you problem solve on a 5.3 and locate the problem, I'm right with you and feel thanks for making me feel like a pro when I comes to my electrical diagnosis..
