@@chunkymilk5412 no you see sociopaths are not able to recognise an action they are doing is wrong, which is exactly what differentiates them from psychopaths. A psychopath knows that killing is 'wrong' but will still do it if they have enough reasoning for it, however for a sociopath the distinction isn't made from the first place. Not only are sociopaths more likely to commit murder, they are also more easily distinguished as their brain structure does not allow them to properly integrate social values and the like.

Isn't this based on a real life case? I've got to google it but I'm sure there was a doctor who treated patients for cancer they didn't have. A psychopathic nurse or doctor is one of the scariest things to imagine.

I don't think there's an exact related cases, however there is a type of (serial) killer called the Angel of mercy/death. Those are caregivers, such as nurses, who kill people with their medical knowledge to either try to resurrect the patient afterwards to make them feel powerful, or they kill the patient in a similar power surge

@@woordenhechtster I guess you could use Josef Mengele as an example. He was a doctor and served as a medic in the army, then worked at a concentration camp, killing people by poisoning them with diseases just for the experiment. He's known as "THE Angel of death" (from an old fairy tale about an angel who would carry people, mostly children, to the afterlife). There have been multiple cases of him sowing twins arms and bodies together without anesthetic, like the horror movie human centipede. Idk what this comment is going to achieve but eh

Psychopaths aren’t necessarily dangerous, they just don’t care about anything like someone getting hurt or even killed since they can’t feel anything. That DOES increase the chance of them doing something bad since they probably won’t show any regret.

Limbo Cat I think you are conflating psychopathy with antisocial personality disorder. While yes, they are not necessarily dangerous, meanness and violence are a key component to psychopathy in addition to antisocial tendencies. Antisocial is where someone just doesn't care. Many psychopaths are very successful businessmen because they get off on being cruel and vindictive in the market place for example.

My grandpa was once misdiagnosed and told that he had TB, once the medication started his condition only worsened. It reached a point where he wasn't even able to walk and had to use a wheelchair. After being forced by my grandma to see another doctor, he went there and was surprised to find out that he had been misdiagnosed. It took my grandpa years and had to have a lot of therapy, etc. However, he is now in a better state. Fun fact: That doctor had been awarded the Padmashri award (a very respectable award in India)........

Thing is, psychopathy doesn’t automatically make you want to kill. There are many high functioning psychopaths at the top of their field where their lack of emotional empathy actually helps them succeed. Surgeons, military heads, CEOs etc...
@setablaze1802
@setablaze1802 Жыл бұрын
Hell, even in nursing, empathy is something that's needed in controlled doses. Too much and nurses can get their judgement clouded and break professional boundaries. It means each patient causes a new wave of unbearable emotional turmoil for the nurse. That's really not viable for a nurse in oncology for instance.

Arizona gets diagnosed for breast cancer (by that doctor) when she goes to investigate. When the sonogram wasen't even hers, it was someone else's. Arizona really believed him so she went back to grey sloan and got a sonogram there. Turned out she didn't have it and that he had fooled others too.

On other thing: be mindful of your own mental health. It's not unheard of for psychiatrists to see other psychiatrists, as patients, as the emotional, and psychological toll can be immense, dealing with troubled minds, all the time. Actually, low/lack of empathy or compassion isn’t necessarily unheard of or even a terrible thing for a doctor/health professional. Also, lack of empathy doesn’t always indicate psychopathy- the lack of empathy isn’t necessarily the bad part, it’s psychopaths’ motivation and drive to act out against others. For instance, autism can also be associated with a lack of empathy, but people with autism and a lack of empathy could still be great doctors, say if they had a special interest in medicine. The closest positive media representation of this sort of thing that I can think of is Dr. House, although to some degree I think you can argue he only pretends not to care. The lack of empathy or compassion does not necessarily indicate malintent or malevolence. Just as there are people with empathy and compassion that are still motivated to do horrible and cruel things, people without empathy and compassion can still be motivated to do good and kind things.

Generally, both sociopath and psychopath are used to describe people with ASPD. They don't differ that much, the symptoms are very similar. A sociopath is often described as someone who doesn't do serious harm, but mostly practices mind-games and such, while a psychopath does more long-term damage.

In the case of Dean Reybold, the death of one of Camille's students Hannah Cates, whom Hank promised to look after. Yes there were other factors that came into play, such has Hannah's choice to be with Mike Sheffield and his gang, after Hank pretty much abandoned her following the death of his son. But if Reybold hadn't overdosed Camille with chemo, perhaps Hannah would've had a much more promising future ahead of her. I know Chicago PD is just a TV show and it's the writers that call the shots not the audience, but I think it serves as an example of what you said about a psychopath's ability to cause long term damage. Even after they've been made to answer for their misdeeds, it's never enough whether they are behind bars for the rest of their days or six feet under.

I have just started watching Chicago Med and KZfaq videos have made me realise that apparently, Med, P.D & Fire crossover. Could anymore guide as to how to watch all these three simultaneously so that I don't miss the conclusions of storylines. I was curious as to why the OD-on-chemo-drug storyline was cut short in Med but now it seems it's concluded in P.D. Does this happen alot in these three shows nd if yes then could anyone please tell which I should watch first and how to cover others simultaneously.
