I don't know how I managed to completely hold it together there, however, I've since read the lyrics with the song in the background. I may have cried.. The power of music never fails to astonish me and when it's delivered in such a beautiful way, it makes it hard for me to not lose control of my emotions. I loved this song a LOT!

What We need to do is pay homages to the parents of these five talented and beautiful women for raising such great human beings as their daughters.

I have to say that is an absolutely wonderful thing to say--and God knows they did an incredible job guiding their daughters! I think that the five of them together are a miracle that is so much more than the sum of the parts. SO much more! It's almost predestined how they all fit together so seamlessly and are able to create these magical songs. Major props for bringing that up.

@@Marcus_C51 I don't know how true this is since it just came from a KZfaq comment, but someone said that part of Miku's drive comes from the fact that her father left the family when she was a teenager and she had to start working to support herself (and possibly the rest of her family - I'm not sure). So yeah, that's not good, but it obviously led to something amazing.

I cried the first time I saw this, back in the middle of the pandemic when I was so cut off from family and friends. I cried again when I watched it with the lyrics on. I only cry occasionally now when I watch it. It is THE anthem for all who suffered, in many ways, during the pandemic and THE song of hope for a brighter future when we can all be together again enjoying these beautiful women (in every respect, faces and souls) and the music they create for us performing as THE best live Rock band in the galaxy.

Their wholesomeness kinda goes even deeper than fan appreciation for me. If you're a fan of this band long enough, you're gonna start looking up their interviews and maybe their Twitter and Instagram posts and, though they can play hard rock that rivals the best of the West, they have _zero_ of that macho bravado that most of those bands have. In fact they all seem to be genuine friends and really care about each other. Plus, if you haven't seen Kanami just be Kanami, it's... man, it's something else lol

First time I watched this song on youtube, I was in the breakroom at work. Struggling to hold back tears and act natural. This song hits a special place. Sidenote: I don't think "Play" is very emotional. Fun as heck, and one of my favorites. But if you want emotion (and Mincho's best solo in my opinion) you want "Daydreaming". Sorry to hear your day wasn't going that well. Hopefully things look up soon. I'm with you as well about the emotional impact of music. Nothing can get to me quite as well as music can. When I listen to music I most enjoy when I can empathize with what it's about and when it talks about something in a poetic way. This song really hits in a special way to be sure. These ladies definitely know what they're doing with song construction, and Saiki's a very talented vocalist. This song makes me tear up as well. I think it's been a rough year for all of us and they convey that sentiment in a very beautiful way. They really do have true love for their fans and performing for them. Not being able to tour has been very difficult for them. Akane live streamed her birthday this year, but ever since they've been a band they've always been on the road touring for her birthday. When she talked about not being able to celebrate her birthday with fans at a show, you could tell she almost started crying about it. Honestly I can't wait for the next time Band-Maid can make it to the US. I need to be in the audience at an actual show. If you were trying to look for more songs of theirs that can be considered more of a ballad like this song, you'll be good to check out "Daydreaming" or "endless Story".

Chief--I have to commend you for doing this reaction to this extremely touching song in real time without edits. I don't know if I could've done it-I shed some very large tears and was totally choked up when I first saw this. I was extremely emotional too, there is so much going on in this song it's actually quite overwhelming. First things first--and I may go on here for a bit--Misa MIsa MIsa! I actually don't know what planet or galaxy she's from, but that performance on bass was so immensely pretty, potent, lyrical, imaginative and completely stunning I still can't quite describe how gobsmacked I was when I first heard it. And every time I listen to it NOW! For starters, her bass lines are so counter to what would normally one would think a bass part would be for a song like this. It's way too busy, how can it work like it does?!! The glissando slides, syncopation, the gorgeous fills (like the one you sang--one of my favorite parts as well!), she moves in and out of rhythmic supportive aspect to melodicism in her approach so seamlessly that it's astonishing to me. It's nothing short of musical alchemy isn't it? I'm a guitarist who can be a bit of a gearhead. Can be-ha ha... I say this because she is way beyond any tools of her trade-yes, she is certainly into her basses, amps and pedals being just so. But this is about head, hands and heart--pure soul pouring out, expressing herself in such a way that it powers the song so uniquely and intensely. And her and Akane...what a magical rhythm section they are! Akane's playing on this is just so smooth-the hi hat and snare work on the verses...really something! I love the interplay with MIsa and how they make it flow. She pushes the choruses with her cymbals and it just cascades on and on. She's a true artist on the drums herself. It's sort of indescribable how they can play so pretty, yet in other songs they can be that savage, almost hurricane-like onslaught that just blows through you. Not that I'm going to ignore the rest of the band--the intro...perfect. How can you be more sublime? Kanami provides her lovely acoustic and I have to commend the soundman/production crew, the backing tracks on this are synched and mixed perfectly! The parts are used tastefully and as another poster here has mentioned, not as something to cover up lame playing etc. And I've noticed that every time they use them in shows it is always flawless. I imagine it's done with midi and that Akane is playing with a click track on these songs with them because she is ALWAYS right on! Perhaps I'm wrong on this, I know her meter is superb so who knows...The vocals are beyond belief--Saiki is just pouring out her soul on this and how she soars in the choruses is so gorgeous! The harmonies and interplay that MIku supplies is pretty as well and so compelling, their timbres really blend and have always impressed me. The counter melody she sings in the chorus along with what Saiki is doing is really special. The choruses are just so powerful and emotional they really get to me too! There are times that I try to concentrate on an individual member and what they do in this song and find that it's impossible. Together they just are constantly interweaving their parts so well that one has to just yield to the flow and let it wash over you-ha ha! Kanami's playing on this, wow--just wow! Her use of delay on the choruses compliments the vocals so well. As usual, she adds those fills, that lovely one with the little bends in the build up to the chorus is great! Miku just strumming away on her guitar supplying the rhythm is great as well, the fact that she didn't even play guitar when the band first started still impresses me...yes! I really liked the question you asked, about not understanding a single word really that Saiki is singing and how is it that the melodies and the music convey the emotions so well. She does sing "nostalgic" fairly clearly and that is sort of a touchstone to me but yes, the power and love that comes through is palpable to an intense degree. Thanks for reacting to this Chief, I hadn't heard this in awhile and got blown away by it all over again... I hope that your struggles are lessoned somewhat, I have to say that the pandemic really has thrown me for a loop and I am SO grateful for these ladies and their music helping me pull through these trying months. I don't know where I'd be without them. It's so cool to have this sanctuary of Band Maid and all of their magnificent songs. I know that they have really been missing playing out and are wanting to get back on tour, I hope that I'll be able to see them live for the first time...that would be a dream come true. Have a great day bro--thanks again! PS-sent you the link to their onslaught of an instrumental "onset". Don't know if you''ve reacted to it yet. Won't have to worry about keeping the tears back on that one-you'll be grinning ear to ear when you hear Kanami and Miku's grinding power chord intro then MIsa MIsa and Akane coming in to power it up. Cheers!

Starting my morning. Coffee and a smoke on the balcony. Thought, “I’ll watch this reaction now.. should be good…” I love this song, and your reaction had me tearing up in minutes! Soppy bastard! Lol You need to find a link to the Puzzle acoustic performance! (Any one here who has it??) It’s raw, cut back and totally gorgeous. Saiki is a truly talented vocalist as we all know, but in these slow tracks she really shines. 💕

Music is the universal language, if it's well done it can transmit any feelings wanted to without needing to understand lyrics at all, but I'm glad you didn't turn on the cc because it could have caused several tears in that state you woke up today. Play can be emotional in another way, but it's more like a joyful song like Freedom or Domination. Normally Miku's songs tend to be more emotional, like Time, Smile or the most recent one Sayonakidori (no official mv/live yet). Or their ballads and slow paced songs like Daydreaming or Anemone (acoustic live version highly recommended for this one)

You said it yourself.....you love music, and music lovers usually get the context of a song .... regardless of the language. (A tip - most of Band-Maid's video's released from about a year ago have English closed caption text.) This song is for us... the fans. It basically describes how they miss playing live, but doing their best in this Covid-19 environment. Band-Maid are a band that keep on giving to their fans (as with a lot of other bands) and for that, I'm thankful. They have a few slow/mid tempo songs which IMO are great.... Yes this is a special song. It’s really about the vocals. Production plays its part but Miku’s layered vocal is really so beautiful backing and supporting Saiki’s lead. Fine bass lines from Misa and ‘noodling’ from Akane and Kanami. Daydreaming is the 1to listen to next. Miku’s beautiful backing vocal after Kanami’s solo is something else. There’s no other band that has the diversity of Band Maid. About Us and Rinne are a world apart. That’s what makes them unique. Creativity across most genres.
