Chinese automaker BYD has opened its first electric vehicle plant in Thailand, as part of the company’s push to expand its reach into Southeast Asian markets. The US$490 million plant has a capacity to build 150,000 vehicles a year, with key components such as batteries to be assembled locally. May Wong tells us more.

Wise move by wise people🎉 hope they would also innovate and upgrade their grid to transmit electricity more and more efficiently. EV and good grid go hand in hand. Hope the batteries are becoming more and more recyclable and environmentally friendly. Hope for unceasing efforts in innovation and improvement (longer range and safe) of batteries that are not only designed for new EVs but also can readily fit into all existing models of EV's. In this way, the people who currently embrace green energy EV (for the sake of the environment) would not lose out in time to come and more and more people would be encouraged to join in this noble pursuit in earth care.

This economic achievement will be driven by four major forces: strong demographic trends (65 percent of ASEAN’s 600 million population will be middle-class), increasing foreign investment, rising income levels, and digital advances. Strengthening the bloc’s continued growth trajectory is its various free trade agreements (FTAs) some of which are the world’s largest. These FTA offers numerous opportunities for foreign investors, ranging from capitalizing on Singapore as the region’s financial services hub or moving manufacturing operations to low-cost regions in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. @@ervinabdullah881 The US already has some 50% of its annual 4250TWh electrical generation produced by non-fossil fuel sources. Canada has 81% of its annual electric generation from non-fossil fuel sources thanks to its abundance of hydro and nuclear power. The US/Canada/EU and others already pledged to have a net-zero grid by 2035 which is also the year sales of new combustion engine vehicles will banned. In 2022, more than 80% of all worldwide new energy capacity additions were renewables. With the cosmic non-stop power of our sun, less than 1% of the world's land surface covered in just current generation photovoltaics can power all of the world's grids. There is enough off-shore wind to power the world several times over. Economically, EVs will drive grids towards renewable sources and additional capacity. Because EVs provide economic incentive to upgrade the grids because every dollar spent on upgrading the grid gets both cleaner transportation and cleaner industry. The grid is a multipurpose foundational piece of a nation's infrastructure. OTOH, fossil fuel vehicles have never and will never provide this benefit to the grid. Continued use of fossil fuel vehicles keeps us dependent on the likes of petro dictators like Putin who don't hesitate to use petro as an economic weapon, and for leverage towards his selfish goals. Continued use of fossil fuels keeps the world bent over the barrel of organizations like OPEC. Continued use of fossil fuel vehicles drives us further into the climate change hole. What's the first thing you should do when you've dug yourself into a hole? Stop digging!
