as a truck driver i lived with those diesel heaters for years in the truck sleeper cab. they are quiet and comfortable and it's so nice to shut the big engine off and get a good quiet sleep. ours were Espar heaters. Webasto are just as good from what i hear. they will keep a semi sleeper warm down to about -20 centigrade. or if you close the curtain to the cab about -30 centigrade, but then you have a cold cab in the morning. you will never use them enough to 'wear anything out' ; on the contrary it is good to run them monthly for an hour or so all during the summer to lubricate the pumps and seals and blow the dust out. it wouldn't hurt to find a small bottle of diesel fuel conditioner for very cold temperatures. it really doesn't matter what brand as long as you improve the cetane rating (similar to octane in gasoline). these heaters work by spraying diesel fuel on a tiny red hot glowpin and the higher quality the fuel the more likely it is to ignite. since you have the fuel tank inside the cab it should not cause you cold weather problems. it's such a beautiful sound to hear the flame kick in like a little tiny jet engine as you settle in for the evening.

great demonstration of the start up power. That is a great example of the headroom required in an electrical circuit, especially with motors and not "squeezing power" out of a circuit.

Wow, a great move on that Diesel Heater. Now, I want one for my camper. Nice hiking trails pal, you do get around. You get hurt you're on your own out there. Have a emergency backup plan. Hey, try pulling some trout out of those streams and fry up with some potatoes and corn. While trout fishing I use whole corn for the bait too. I bet your mom taught you everything about cooking meals … Good knowing how to cook for sure.

That is a ton of heat. I have a Promaster City that is convertible for camping. I've been trying various ways to heat, and have an old Wave 3. It's not vented, which is not ideal. The Wave 3 is 2 or 3 thousand BTU's. Unfortunately, a 5kw heater is around 15,000 BTU. You can be pretty sloppy and just ventilate, I know. I'd have to say your installation is a complete success. It's a sophisticated piece of kit of $200. Wild! Winter in Canada.

That’s quite the interesting heater. $188 on Amazon (with remote and muffler). Makes sense to install one in your vehicles in cold regions, even if not living in your car. Imagine being stuck on the highway in a blizzard or having engine troubles and you are out of cellphone range. This heater will keep you warm until help has a chance to arrive.
