The great thing about your videos is that you're out there every day, living your own way. Too many van life videos are made by spoiled rich brats just trying to be trendy. Your work seems authentic and practical, and done with a genuine desire to be out in the wild, living independently.

I watch a few people who are Mt Bikers and none of them are like that. I think its a pretty hard way to live full time. I lived out of my car and tent for a few months back in the day and it was fine, then again I was not doing it year round.

Few things: 1. After cooking, I’m wondering how much the smell lingers and whether the vent makes a difference. I imagine the smell particles stick to the interior and stick around for a while. 2. Consider making an Amazon wishlist and sharing it with us. I’m more comfortable making one time purchases than monthly patreon payments. 3. What are you doing for income right now? Has channel viewership/Adsense revenue grown to a sustainable scale?
@forestyforest4 жыл бұрын
I don't notice lingering scents in here. I think someone else needs to check out my van and make the decision. I've tried setting up the Amazon thing but ran into some dead ends, still working it out. Yes for now I'm making enough on Adsense + Patreon to get by, it really helps I have a low cost lifestyle. I feel really fortunate my channel is getting views, KZfaq is getting swamped with Van Life stuff. So I realize my channel could easily start to dwindle, if I have to go back to the factory, then i will. But I enjoy making the videos so I will continue on.

FF, glad to see you back here! I've been discovering more and more of your older biking vids, and they are also great and full of breathtaking video. So glad you are NOT back working in a factory when you have these greater gifts to give the world. Your skills in biking and videography--and yes even cooking and van building--are exceptional. Even more important, I think they make you happy. For us, we are all connected to the Nature and adventure that are such a part of your journey. Most of us will never come close to having those kinds of experiences in our lives. It is a blessing you have shared this with us...and the channel finally caught on! Forest, none of us will be upset if you add your Patreon link to those older videos--and also to this one! Or let YT run a commercial or so within your programming. Set up Amazon affiliate links to the gear (hiking or biking or video or cooking) you appreciate. Do whatever you need to do to make this continue to work, because you are a natural at these things. Stay safe out there, my friend.

I changed Dr. and I asked her about this new meat Keto thing. She didn't suggest it but asked how much red meat I eat, when I told her none she was shocked and said red meat and fat have gotten a bad rap for years. I started eat bacon and red meat and have lost 23 pds. I know you don't need to lose weight at all but as active as you are do not give up meat you can do less but don't give it up. Stay healthy and safe. Love your channel

Hey I am about 98% vegan. I eat lots of nuts, beans, rice, pasta, etc. I rarely get sick anymore. I make a smoothie every day. Just a $5 thrift store blender. Add everything from frozen veggies to celery, cucumber, wheat grass powder, wheat germ, fruits, etc. I rode 53 miles the other day and recovered the next day but I had a bunch of tuna. I eat salmon and eggs also. No dairy except some yogurt and chocolate. A little cheese. Coconut oil instead of butter. So anyway, that's my 2 cents. I do it for health and because I don't want to kill unless I have to. Thank you for your cool channel. My favorite.

The biggest benefits of slow cooking is probably meat (since it allows it to become tender soak up the tastes). I have been vegan the majority of my life and do a lot of vegan dishes. But generally I end up with cutting a lot of vegetables all the time, while the cooking process is generally 15 minutes or so, unless I use the oven. :) An easy thing to do is tomato lentil soup (translated recipe can be found in the reply section www.ica.se/recept/linssoppa-med-tomat-541439/ ). eat it with bread, or add pasta. It's good hiking food. :) You can cook it outdoors easily. Keep in mind always mix vegetable protein (beans, lentals, chickpeas etc) with some kind of grain... bread, pasta, wheatberry etc. your digestion will allow it to become full proteins, same building blocks as in meat.

You have a real genius about van conversion. The electronic management and set up wisdom you have is valuable. And could be offered as a consultant level service. And the snow shoe and foot wear...look up the local First Nation arts and craft centers in the communities you visit. Their snow shoes and mu-clucks are the best. They have hundreds of years of time tested wisdom in their design. When I was a kid, I did so, those and my Kodiak felt lined boots were the best... even when the temps dipped down below -40 Celsius.

Your reasons for less meat were good, understandable for your needs. For overall health though, I've always believed when it's your time to go, it's your time. My grandmother fried everything in bacon grease, ate a lot of the Banquet meals, a lot of salt, sugar... you get the point. She lived into her 90's. My uncle, her son, was a vegan... always concerned about what he put into his body. He croaked at 50. Again, your explanation for why was the best I've heard... more a short term gains explanation and I get it. I love your videos, you're my favorite youtuber bar none. Add to that, I simply admire the young man you are... All the best!

I have one of those lightweight puffer jackets and I love it. But it's incredibly fragile so be careful.

Nice video. Also, I really like how you focus on video content, and practicality. Shooting with your cell phone is just fine. It really annoys me how some channels have 20 different camera angles, and super slow motion of them cutting onions, or cooking something simple (which makes the video 15 minutes longer). It's so ridiculous when they try to turn a camping video into a movie production, and it ruins the authentic grassroots feeling like your videos have. Keep doing what your doing!

If he ever gets rid of that slow cooker I’m gonna find it and use it 😂

As soon as he says he took it back to the thrift store I am going there to pay homage to the cooker. Not going to buy it, already have one.

Hey man you really need to do a side show just about cooking. Van Cooking!

You’re definitely getting better at all of this, commentary and filming. I’m surprised you’ve not been offered little jobs helping with buildouts for others. Good job bro.

You need to morph all the boots into a perfect pair.

If these companies were smart they’d get Foresty as a consultant ASAP, and put out the perfect pair of affordable boots.

You treat the reaction to your hikes like I do to nights with alcohol.

I think it'd be cool if you could do a video that shows some of the "behind the scenes" that help you support your life in the van. How often do you have to get groceries? How often do you have to get water, where do you typically get it from? How often do you need to drop off trash, where do you typically do it? How often do you have to stop by a laundromat? How do you handle mail while traveling (receiving online purchases, etc)? Is your hotspot sufficient for your internet needs, or do you have to stop by libraries/coffee shops, etc? How much time do you spend each day locating suitable parking? (Any "where" questions don't need specific place names, just categories would be fine [e.g. gas station, library, etc]) How long does it take to plan out your hikes? Do you have any resources you'd recommend for planning one / navigating one? Your videos are really inspiring. I've camped out in my car a few times and am really impressed with how good of a job you've done with your setup.

I have the Alpine Quest app on my phone. I load the Open Street Maps "cycle/hike" map and just scan for potential routes. Once I find something, it helps to Google the mountain name. Chances are someone else had made a trip report. Thank you, I'll see if I can answer more of your questions later.

Agreed, AWD for the next would be a huge plus for you. I haven't seen many van lifers videos that do the outdoor back country stuff your do. It is actually surprising what you are able to do with a simple 2wd van. Also, one last time for the slow cooker as well! lol

I have the same pair of merrell trailblazers that you showed. They are perfect for summer hiking and keep your feet really ventilated, my favorite pair of shoes really.

Haha!!!!😂 One last time with the slow cooker!!!😁😀 Glad to see all is well with your van and great to see and hear about all your gear! I have been a vegetarian for 20+ years. There's a lot of vegetarian options out there. My husband is not and he still likes Morning Star products....a lot!!! Stay safe and warm!!!!!
