Love Mr. Ng’s dry sense of humor and of course his expertise. As someone who went the Ebay/refurbish route before buying a Lie Nielsen jack plane, I wish I had considered buying the Lie Nielsen or Veritas Jack with the extra blades first. I would recommend that path for anyone starting out.
@richardsinger01
@richardsinger01 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't, its a waste of money for a beginner. Lie Neilsen and Veritas make high quality tools and are nice to have if you have very deep pockets, but you do not need tools of this price to do first class work.

William NG, Welcome Back, it is a delight to see another outstanding video from you and your modeling hands. I am the guy with the power tools, however I want to be the one with the zin with wood. I have been the one flying the airplane for fifty years, yes the plane with wings. 🤣 Seriously Thank you for making this video and sharing your knowledge with us. I own a hand plane that my great grandfather used and I am 64 years old I have sharpened the iron however the design is pretty crude. And I have not been able to master the art of using this plane unlike the one with wings. You have introduced me to the finer points of hand planes. After seeing your video I am going to consider purchasing a quality hand plane. Thank you.😁🛫

William is a great help. You don't or will ever need any plane that is not made by Stanley. The secret to getting the best results from a plane is the setup, and that includes the most important part--sharpening.

Hi William, Great video! I especially appreciate your elaboration on setting up the low-angle jack plane by Veritas. I love this plane. However, one surprise I had was the shorter plane irons don’t fit my standard honing guide. So I ended up purchasing the Veritas Deluxe honing guide, and this set me back a mere $125.

Your comment about the side screws to enable the lateral adjuster to function was a Eureka moment for me. I baulked at spending so much on any low angle Jack plane, so I made a wooden one with the Veritas Norris style adjuster. The side screws will improve its deficiency with the lateral adjuster. Shavings turning was also enlightening. Your jokes are terrible.😀😀 They made me chuckle.

There are some great tips in this video, thanks. The direction of curl tip on heavier cut opposite the direction of curl is the first time I've heard that one from anyone, but it makes perfect sense when thinking about it from a physics standpoint. Brilliant tip, thanks. The issue with that particular low angle plane with all of the extra blades would be the price for many beginner wood workers. The sudden realization of how much this hobby can cost could scare away far too many newbies. Thanks for the videos though.
