I have a shorty header w/catless 3inch to 2.5 to shorty resonator to 2.5 back. I used to have a zzp muffler but I blow them out in about a year and a half with all the fossil popping it does. I went with a fx flowmaster....and it sounds waaaaay to loud. The shorty warped and cracked the primaries, I welded it up but I still need to go back and find the leak. I will probably get another shorty header and cut the flange so it doesn't warp again and ride that for another 3 years lol. ......maybe another muffler from you as well, they have a great sound. Went with 2" headers stepping into 2,125" that then merge into a collector with 2.5" outlet into a 17" long muffler with perforated core and reversion cones. Seems reasonable?

600 hp NA? NA or SC engines can "push" the exhaust out with the natural pumping action of a engine. A turbo engine you now have the exhaust turbine using most of the energy to spin and make boost in the compressor side of the turbo leaving less energy to push the gasses out of the rest of the exhaust system so you step up in size to reduce back pressure after the turbo.

I like to compare exhaust size to how big the opening of your mouth is for when you exhale for exercise. @spin-cthrowshands5553
@spin-cthrowshands5553 3 жыл бұрын
Get the ATS V hood and slap it on... it varies who you get it from if it's just ATS V styled or OEM ATS V Carbon Fiber Hood. ATS V Styled aluminum is probably $1200, carbon fiber styled is probably $1800, and OEM I'd imagine is most expensive and I'd guess $2500.
@spin-cthrowshands5553
@spin-cthrowshands5553 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously if you get the carbon fiber option on your non V ATS you can't use the OEM arms. You will need to buy and install a different hood lock & the arms, if I'm not mistaken... there really is no need for the hood extractor on the 4 cylinder turbo ATS since heat is not a issue at any level, unless you put a much bigger turbo in. I can't speak on that heat issue with a larger turbo, as I never went that far in my non V ATS, but was stage 2 ZZP+ making over 500RWHP and running 11s without any E85 in & on just a 91 tune. It would just be for looks really and kind of a waste, especially if your carbon fiber hood extractor chips/ fades/ or breaks... your out almost a grand on the OEM and like 500 for a knock off & that is without the labor if you pay someone to install.

Calculations on engine to pipe size is very hard since many variables to consider. Number of pistons, size of engine, timing and lastly is length of exhaust pipe. But we do know that smaller diameter pipe has a faster flow for a given volume of air/fluid compared to a bigger diameter pipe. Smaller pipes = Faster flow means better scavenging at lower RPMs. Meaning the torque and power are achieved earlier in the powerband which is perfect if you just want an upgrade in drivability and increased mileage. On the otherhand bigger pipes will allow your engine to breathe better at high RPMs making increasing power but your torque and hp are moved up on the powerband.
